I liked saving private ryan because of how historicaly accurate it was (the beach scene was cool, but should of had a destroyer almost beach itself like it happened historicaly). The Chaos of all the paratroopers being missdropped. Things like that. I also liked the portrayal of the military and some of the hard decisions tom hanks had to make.

RE: World War 2 movies
Can’t believe none of you said “Saving Private Ryan”.
Another good one I think would be about the seige of Berlin from a german soldier’s perspective.

World War 2 movies
I was wondering what ww2 battles you guys think would make good movies?
I am of the opinion that a Monte Casino centering on the jap americans would be incredible. They sacraficed so much for this country and their story is not very well known.

RE: How important is a 100,000 mile tune up?
I didn’t go to a dealer, it was a guy my GF has been going to for years. He does good work, and it is a trust thing to an extent with my GF. For example he said we needed new tires (which we did) but we didn’t want to charge it because we don’t like using credit cards (all paid off hurray!) We were going to wait till our next pay day to get the tires, but he said he would put them on and we could get the $ to him when we got it. I don’t like doing that, so we charged it. Point is he offered and that is a nice thing to do that you won’t see at many other places.
However, if he is overcharging I would like to know. Does it make any difference that the car was a 2002 ford taurus? I thought the make and model made a difference as far as price goes. A dealership charged 600 to service a similiar car.

RE: What's with the new ads?
Either cyber psche, or bad programming… am I closet che supporter? They should fix their way of advertising. Although I have to say it worked. I did do a poll from this board. Let the junk mail begin!

What's with the new ads?
Some of the ads are normal, like amazon. But what is with the rest of em? Polls on gay marriage, anti-bush bumper stickers, pro Che merchandice? Is this place turning into democraticunderground.com or something?

RE: Your best games as Germany?
My best game as Germany was against the tradition allied strategy of “all forces after germany first”. Consistantly through the game I bought either 1 bomber or 1 fighter per turn and the rest infantry. My conquest of Africa was fairly quick and by the time the Americans had enough force to land (second turn) on me the US could not protect its fleet from my AF in Western that could hit both their navy and troops that had landed. I had taken Africa by the 3rd turn and kept sending 2 pieces a turn into Africa and producing 1 fighter. This may seem like a lot but it had the function of keeping the entire attention of the US and UK because they had to land on me and not the other way around. The rest of my $ went to feed the Russian front, and with the additional IPC from Africa I could afford to fight that to a stand still (the bombers in Western could still strike the Russian forces for offensive power, and I was pretty much matching them with infantry buys).
I was taking on all 3 powers by myself for quite some time. My partner was new at the game and not too good at Japan, but even he was working his way up towards Russia and the allies knew they had to do something. So the US/UK both landed a huge amount of men in Algeria. At that time I sacraficed my entire AF and navy and hit his fleet ignoring the land forces there. The net result was just about total destruction on both sides. I think they walked away with 2 battleships. Although the loss of my coveted AF sucked, it bought me a lot of “alone time” with Russia, and with Japan sneaking up from the east and me buying almost comepletly armor/infantry (with no west wall to protect) Russia fell quickly. I slowed the advance of the allied troops that had landed by placing all of my units 2 spaces from their main force. This ensured a slow advance because they could not Blitz through all of my holdings (my forces in africa could not be destroyed by their armor alone).

RE: America
Pearl would have to roll pretty well for Japan to lose anything. Take 2 hits on the Battleships and you lose nothing. I don’t see an American counter attack taking place, so it is free ships to destroy.
I think you are looking at it wrong Jen. The question should be what does Japan gain from not attacking pearl. On the first turn Japan does not have enough ground forces to adequately attack everything it wants to reguardless of how many planes it is using. Most of the firepower taking out Pearl comes from japan’s fleet which would be doing nothing if not attacking pearl.
I don’t see the minor logistical help worth the huge military cost of not killing those pieces when they are vulnerable.

Any good mechanics?
I have been having problems with my mowers electrical system. It started at the start of summer when we needed a new cylanoid. I needed to mow the lawn while we waited for the part so I was connecting the + and _ with a screwdriver to start the engine. Cylanoid came put it in and found I had blown a fuse. No bigee, I replaced it and for the past few weeks no problems. Today I blew another fuse. I replaced it went about 2 minutes and it blew. Replaced it went about 5 feet and than it blew.
Anyone know what is wrong with my mower that it is blowing fuses like that?

RE: Anti-missle missle test/system…what do we need?
Well said Jen. Not only that but what is really sickening is that if the dems get into office they will claim all of the things that you just mentioned as their accomplishments.

Che
BTW, goldens are incredibly smart dogs. Had one growing up, and have one now. Trained the first one to ring a bell when she needed to go outside. This one I can balance food on her nose and she won’t eat it until I say so (I can even leave the room).

RE: Most important decision in life
Life is a waste of time. Sure, it may be all you have… but most ppl never become more sentient than a rock, or at best a machine. By the age of 14 most people have sold out what little indivuality they have for the mall and diet coke. After that they really aren’t alive any more than a computer program… and contrary to popular belief everyone is not a unique snowflake. They are more akin to cattle being prodded along. Knowing this chosing to try to be an individual is the most important decision you can make. Sadly, most people have made up their minds to be drones.
For those of you who have read Dragonlance I like a quote from it:
“So what you are saying is there is no hope?”
“Hope is like the carrot dangled in front of the donkey encouraging it to go further even though it will never reach its goal”.
“So you think we should just give up?”
“No, I say removie the carrot and walk forward of your own will”.
Most people prefer to have the carrot.

Stephen King
I was wondering how many of you read his books and which ones you like the most.
I have read:
The Shining
The Dead zone
The stand
(name escapes me, the one with the car that is alive and kills people)
Tried reading the gunslinger but it was largely crapOut of the 4 I liked “the stand” the most. Any suggestions on a good book of his to pick up?

We are paying the healthcare bill for criminals who enter our country illegaly, but we turn away citizens at the ER?
Yes, CC can be an ass some times. And it makes sense from this post because I believe that is the part of his anatomy that did the thinking here.

RE: Blonde Jokes
Adopted into a blonde joke:
A blonde housewife gets a call in the middle of the day from her husband.
“YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE THIS, I JUST WON THE LOTTERY!”
The wife replies “Are you serious?”
The husband says “as a heart attack. Start packing your clothes!”
Excited she says “OH MY GOD! Should I pack summer or winter clothes?”
“Both, I want you out of the house in an hour!”
