      @Mary:

      Who would Jesus execute?

      Oh, and mary.  This just occured to me.  “Give to Rome what is Rome’s, give to God what is God’s”.

      This pretty much says that Christians shouldn’t interfere in government.  So I am guessing that Jesus would not stop capital punishment, esp. since that is the way he “saved” all of us.

      Who would jesus have not follow him?  Are you penniless and have no home depending only on God for survival?

      So knock off the Jesus crap, people only use him as a refrence when it suits their argument.  They should focus that energy and take the plank out of their own eye.  If you don’t know what that means, I suggest you read the gospel.

      @ncscswitch:

      @Zooey72:

      I am cheap, it costs too much.  This case is the best example, 24 years of this crap going on?  All that money on appeals just blown to kill this guy?  Life w/o parole, this would have been settled at least a decade ago (unless new evidence came to light).  All this money being spent just to kill him?  Like life in prison is oh so great.  Hell, I would rather be put to death than suffer a daily bathroom rape.

      You REALLY think that prison is hard on this guy?  He is the FOUNDER of the Cripps.  Hell half the people in prison with him are probably also Cripps, beholden to HIM.  Hell, he probably has more real power within those walls than the Warden does.  No one rapes HIM.  He is a GIVER of orders to his prisonmates, and probably still a giver of orders beyond the walls to other Cripps (which is probably part of why he has never named a single name, offered the slightest insight as to how the gang is orgnaized, etc.)

      This guy is just as dangerous as a leader of the Cripps IN prison as he is outside of it.  Actually, more so, since in prison he is unlikely to get killed in a drive-by as other Cripps members are subject to.

      Yep, this one needs to die.  Surprised that it did not happen sooner.  Child killers generally don;t live long in prison…

      A good point in this case, but my objection to the death penalty still stands.  Not everyone has founded the Cripps.  He probably does not get raped or anything else.  If he is calling the shots in prison, seperate him from other inmates and visitors.  Problem solved.  Still not worth the millions to kill him.

      BTW, any of you see the 70s picture of this guy?  Holy crap does he have big arms!  Hell, Arnold (he was a body builder) may let him off just cuz the guy was built like a brick shithouse.  lol

      @Imperious:

      The NAACP plans a four-city California tour to persuade the governor to block the execution of Stanley Tookie Williams on December 13th.

      The State Supreme Court has refused to block the convicted killer’s execution. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will hold a private clemency hearing December 8th.
      There have been lots of rallies in support of Williams, drawing big names like Jamie Foxx and Snoop Dogg.

      Williams founded the Crips street gang, but became an anti-gang activist after being sent to death row in 1981. He was convicted of murdering 3 people in a very grusome manner ( i saw the pictures). And yet because he wrote some stupid childrens books, and tries to help teens stay out of games… the rationale is he has somehow paid for his crimes and deserves a lessor punishment. He even recieved a nomination for the nobel peace prize, but that was exposed as a publicity trick, because its very easy for anybody to get a nomination. The other point being that hes a black man and according to all his supporters theirs simply too many blacks in prisons ( of no fault of their own) and their is a bais against them, so goes this line of reasoning. In fact he still has stong ties to the crip gangs and as such they have mandated that they will begin shooting cops, if this man dies on the 13th. Why does the black community always back a loser? And those anti- death crowds put out all these facts that focus on the same tactic, while their real intentions are only that nobody should die under the law, as their is no event that could warrant this punishment.
          Its real sad that our poor white boy jeffrey Dalmer didnt get such a turning out of all the actors and chefs in the comminity, after all they could had emeril lagasse  prepare Jeff’s herb crusted leg of sam recipe on that food network, or passed out brocures on the nutritional  merits of eating Human meat or say their too many canabilists that have been convicted awaiting death.

      Now for my serious post.

      I am against the death penalty, not for “humane” reasons that you claim most people who are against it are.

      Now from the other side, “well, we just need to cut past all the appeals”.  That is BS.  The system is there to protect the innocent, not the guilty.  If I were falsely accused of something I would want every protection available to me.  Ya, this guy is probably as guilty as Dalmer was.  Clear cut case as far as it goes.  But where do you draw the line on a crime saying that the evidence is enough to supercede (sp) their rights?  That line can, and would get very blury if you cut out all the safe guards.

      So I think the safe guards are a MUST.  If the death penalty was a deterant than I could see a reason for it, but I have never heard any stats that says that it is.

      My father was an abusive drunk.  When I was a teen I told my friends that “if i could get away with it” I would off the guy (yes it was stupid, but I was a teenager).  Now lets say some crazy asshole went into my parent’s house and killed him.  If my friends did not want to lie, they would have to tell the court that I had said those things.  Now I am on death row for a crime that I did not commit.

      Sorry, I am not going to give up my rights so that a few people can satisfy their bloodlust.  I call it bloodlust because their is no rational reason for killing the guy.

      I feel no compassion for killers, I just don’t see the good in killing them.  It won’t bring back the victems.  Now torturing terrorist makes sense to me because it can prevent deaths.  That is a BIG difference.

      My GF is cool as hell, plays A&A too.  Most of the time I have played (since I was 13) I have played with my father and uncles.  When she got into the mix with us it was cool as hell to be able to tell my father (who was playing Russia, and my GF was Japan).  “We have been playing this game 20 years now, you are the only one to have ever lost a capital to a WOMAN!”

      She is fun as hell too.  Joke around with her like she is one of my friends.  A girl from work was hitting on me and it was driving her nuts.  She quit a couple weeks ago, and when I told my GF about it she said “oh ya, I am sure you are really heartbroken… Connie was young, and thin, and pretty”.

      I told her “oh baby, I don’t want a young, thin, pretty girl… I want you!”

      Another time she told me “Zooey, (my real name is not zooey) if I ever found out you were cheating on me it would just kill me”.

      I took her by the hand, looked into her eyes and said “Baby, I would never, never, EVER… let you find out”.

      I know I got a great girl, if for no other reason… I’m not dead.

      This one is kind of obscure and old, but I like it “the attack without mercy is always a suprise!”

      Ah hell, will just spill it.  “Little Big Man”.  General Custard said that right before his big attack.

      Here’s an easy one “It felt like a million voices screamed out at once, and than were silenced” (roughly the quote).

    • RE: John Stewart vs Bill O'Reilly

      @Yanny:

      Excuse my intrusion… but which show is on the “comedy network”? I think that would be that comedian dave stewart… Both are entertainers, but clearly Stewarts show has less to do with factual or rational arguments, because if he doesn’t get as many laughs as south park or dave chappelle or any of the other bathroom humor filled shows, they take a big stick and beat him within an inch of his life. O’Reilly’s gig is a bit more formal and he sticks to the fact pattern much better, while he has his own set of personal problems they are both flawed. Also, the level of sophistication of the viewership has little to do with how they espouse their ideas or the message. The demographics and availability of these shows has much more to do with this.

      John Stewart would not disagree with you on the critique of his own show. He is the first to admit that he does comedy, not news. Looking to his show for anything other than smart comedy is not going to turn up anything.

      His problem is with guys like O’Reilly. They do two things wrong. First, O’Reilly gets his viewers through lies, personal attacks, and a lot of hate. Second (the more important point) is that shows like his play in to the strategy of politicians. Political elites in general benefit from the black and white, partisan hackery displayed by people like O’Reilly. Watch the first link, the Crossfire interview with Stewart. He basically spells it out: “We, the people, need you guys. You have a duty to us, and right now you are failing us”.

      First, do you have a video with the O’reily interview?  I would like to see it (I didn’t see a link on the page provided).  I am betting the stoner comment was meant to be funny.  He says that kind of thing a lot, and it is not meant to be offensive.  Saw his show a couple of days ago and he was debating a liberal on “the war on Christmas” and joked that he was satan, and that if he went to his house to make christmas cookies they would have weed in them.  The guy laughed it off, it meant nothing.  It was meant to be a joke and people took it as such.  So I would much rather see the video, than the transcript of the stewart interview.  Too much can be taken out of context so I didn’t bother reading it.  Stewart’s show is the best example of that.  It would hardly be as funny to read it, than watch it.

      The great thing about stewart is that he goes after everyone.  I laugh when he makes fun of things I believe in because there is no real message (other than pointing out how insane the whole thing is).  Fox claims to be “fair and balanced”.  Stewart is closest to that in my opinion.

      I loved the line “you are comparing my show to yours?  The show before mine is about puppets making crank calls!”

      Going to go surf and see if I can find a link to the O’reily interview.

      @Major:

      to me a conservative is some one who cars only for the “now” and has no thoughts for the future. if we pulled out of Iraq now it might be ok for the first bit of time, but it wold come back and bite us in the @$$ soon enough, and bite hard.

      I don’t really understand this, conservatives want us to  pull out?  I think you meant either liberal or democrat instead of conservative.  They are the ones who want us to leave Iraq, not the conservatives.  Just guessing that was your intention, I may be wrong.  If I am please explain your post a bit more.

      I gotta’ admit - i do enjoy Jon Stuart.  He toasts absolutely everybody - Dems, Reps, and other news agencies.  It is pretty fun.
      I guess he is pretty obviously a Democrat (well - at least pretty obviously anti-war in Iraq), but he is still happy to go after the democratic party.

      Gotta admit CC, when you’re right your right.  I remember a couple of years ago after the 04 elections he was commenting on how boring the election was.  “What ever happened to voter fraud?  What… it is all over in one night?  What fun is that?”

      @Zooey72:

      I would like to know what came out of the great socialist utopia of France?  They sure as hell talk the talk, but with all their social programs this is what it comes to?  Homeless die in the US (it happens everywhere).  I just question the heaven of socialism.  I would think this would be a front line battle.  Why this battle is lost?  Because their economy sucks and they don’t have the means to do it.

      you also missed the point that most homeless people are not mentally well.  You can’t force people into programs . . . well, maybe in a capitalist utopia you can . . . .

      You missed the point when I said it happens everywhere.  I would think that in the great socialist utopia of France, this would be their biggest concern.  Us horrible capitalist just kick the bums when we see them (sarcasm).  If this is not a victem of socialism crying out “why didn’t you save me”.  I don’t know what is.  How did these mentaly ill people become homeless in the great big brother government that is France?  Why didn’t “the system” save them?

      Because the French economy is sitting right along side with the homeless mentaly ill.  Too “socialisticaly ill” to save itself, and for some insane reason, thinks there is no problem.

    • RE: Rape shield laws.

      If having sex with a drunk person is rape, than I have been repeatedly raped.  I have had my beer goggles on and had some sex with some really ugly women.  Me GETTING drunk was my decision, and not an excuse to do something stupid.  Some of the girls I wish I hadn’t have done anything with, well cuz the next day they were “yuck”.  I had a guy come on to me when I was drinking.  If I had been so drunk as to consent, and woke up the next day with a sore hind end…. that would have been my fault, not his.  That’s not rape, that’s me doing something stupid while I was drunk.  If you don’t like the stupid things you some times do when you drink, than don’t drink.  My point is, it slices both ways.  You can’t make a special consideration for women.

      Does anyone know if there is any legislation that protects the accused sexual history?  If not, there should be (short of a criminal record).  What he rents from blockbuster is no one’s concern.  Nor is it prevelant to the case if he likes to tie up his wife/GF.
