Ive been ready a book entitled, 1915-The Death of Innocence, the author is Lyn MacDonald. The book mainly covers the year 1915 beggining on the Western Front and the battles in Ypres and Vimy. It takes you to Neuve Chapelle and the first German Gas attacks in Ypres. The fight for Aubers Ridge is detailed. The campaign in Eastern Mediterranean, the landing on the Peninsula of Gallipoli and its battles of Helles and the Southern Sector and Gully Ravine. The book ends with the Battle of Loos. All of these battles are very detailed and have many accounts from men who actually were there and it was their story. I never knew just how bloody this war was and how machine guns would litteraly cut down thousands in just minutes.
Be warned, for me atleast, it was hard reading to follow all that was happening in the book, for I had never read anything about WW1 before and knew very little about it. I had just happened to find the book and picked it up and started reading without really knowing what it was going to be about. Now Im wondering if the author had other books, detailing the other years. The book was a good read.

RE: Variable's Battle of Midway - Now available!
I did take some nice photo’s of the set up with most of the minitures involved in the Battle of Midway. This is the basic set up I used. The War At Series doesnt produce all the actual ships that were involved at Midway so alot of the ships I substituted with what I have. Keeping track of planes I used different sculps and colors of what I also have on hand. My wife likes to play US so I always play Japan. So far I am 3-0 against her, but she is getting better as she is learning the game.

RE: Variable's Battle of Midway - Now available!
Just received my Map and shipping only took 3 days. The map is very nice and since I collect all the War At Sea minitures they look great on the map. So the nice thing is we can play either with the War At Sea minitures rules or with the Battle of Midway Map rules. Im one of the lucky ones whos wife happens to enjoy playing all the Axis&Allies games and since we are a fan of The Pacific this was a nice addition for us. Keep up the good work HBG. Very Nice!

RE: Bob_A_Mickelson's AAE40 National Production/National Objective & Setup Charts
Thank you very much for the time that you have spent providing these charts. We use them all the time in our games that we have played. I especially like the Task Force markers you prepared for AAP40 and was wondering if you might be making Task Force markers for AAE40 - Germany and Italy to be specific. Thanks Again

RE: 20+ hours of gameplay: is this game too long?
We just finished an 11 hour game played over Sunday/Monday and it finally ended when the Axis player playing Japan started getting tired and began to make foolish mistakes. My wife was lucky enough to capture Japan with no hope for an Axis recovery. I enjoy long games like that but if we do not have the time we will switch over to the AAA50 game for a global.

RE: Noob anzac strats
Perhaps I am using a wrong set up, but how does ANZAC take Java, Dutch New Guina or Carolines on turn 1? The transport they start with is 3 sea zones away from each of these areas?
Thanks for explanation in advance.

RE: Carriers attacking transports to retreat, can they?
My previous example in this thread may have been a bit obscure but I will hold to the fact that I felt that since both the carrier and transports attack value is 0, then there is no real sea battle between the two. Therefore, they would just share the sea zone and there would be no cause for a retreat since there was no battle.

RE: Carriers attacking transports to retreat, can they?
I was thinking since there is no real attack there can be no retreat in this instance. Especially since it was my understanding that a transport can move thru an enemy sea zone containing enemy ships. Plus it was my understanding that enemy transports could occupy the same sea zone? If true wouldnt that also be the same for carriers since attack values for both are 0?

RE: Bob_A_Mickelson's AAG40 National Production/Objectives and Setup Charts
Thank you in advance for the updated versions for AAG40 these charts and aids are excellent work. I love using the ones you made for AAP40 and everyone always asks me where I got them. Thanks again and keep up the great service you provide to the AA fan base.

RE: What country will you play first
I want to take control of Italy first time around and see just how much more involved they can in Africa and Southern Euro compared to AA50

RE: Clarification with US Wartime Income
So true, how often I have gotten so use to collecting 55 IPC’s as the USA player that I forget to collect any additional IPC’s later in the game if I take a DEI country or recapture the Phillipines.

RE: When do you use the plastic chips?
My group always uses chips for the land base units and I personally love to use the Task Force markers to hold my naval units. I get tired of moving all those little Japanese ships all over the pacific one by one.

RE: KJNF
I have found if the US sticks it Navy out there too soon a smart Japanese player will pick off the US Navy first. Not sure if anyone else has had this same experience. And if the US waits a couple of turns to strengthen its Navy the DEI belongs to Japan and the British Navy is gone with that part of the Japanese fleet sailing back to the Phillipines.
Thats just been our experience for the most part.
