      I have no idea if this has been posted before, searched, but couldn’t find it, but it has you can link me and lock this…

      Is anybody else sad that the Italians lost their unique armor sculpts from A&A50? I am also sad they lost the Japanese arty variant to get the 88, I don’t like how they have an identical set of figures as the Germans, the Japanese arty varient just spoke of “generic field gun” like the Allied arty,while the 88 says something very specific. Why give them the Panther? Also I guess I can understand not giving the French their own new armor sculpt, but why on earth, of the 3 different allied tank sculpts… did they get the T-34 instead of one of the other two!? Granted none of them are French, but surely of the 3 the T-34 makes the least amount of sense right? I would have given them the newer British sculpt, what is that a Valentine or Matilda? Even a Sherman would be better since it can be justified after the Americans liberate them or for Free French, but they never had T-34’s, did they?

      I am very happy about the new naval sculpts though, and happy that the Soviets appear to be able to use more than 1 sub ever. I own every kit of A&A, and between them all I must have hundreds and hundreds of Soviet naval units… lol They are soo useless, bombers too, I can’t wait for Global because maybe I’ll buy an carrier or something else that floats!

      Sorry, just a contents rant…

    • How will you divide powers depending on the number of players?

      There are 9 nations, 3 axis and 6 allied. How will you divide them if there are 6 players? Obviously 3 players per side, each ally getting two powers.

      I would also say that there are 5 major powers and 4 minor powers. So this really means you’d want a minimum of 5 players. 2 are Axis, and 3 are allied. So each allied player gets one of the major powers, the US, UK, and USSR. Then each one also gets a minor, ANZAC, France, and China. How would you pair them?

      Also, if a 5 player game, and two are axis, who gets Italy, the German or Japanese player?

      I can see arguments for any division, how will you all play it and why?

      Also, do you think a 8 or 9 player game is feasible, or is it too boring for the players who are the minor powers?

      Did you build that minor IC in alaska? Is this legal placement? I think you may have edited out the fact you placed it in Alaska, but I think it was in your original post.

      @Stoney229:

      They get control (and thus collect the income)… hence Kreig’s use of the word “control”. :wink:

      Great point, I just wanted to be sure. Thanks for the answer.  :-D

      If the US does take the DEI from Japan legally as per the rules, do they get the IPC’s and control of the territory, or is it “liberated” and it goes back to whichever of the two (UK or ANZAC) controlled it first? Or maybe even back to the Dutch? I know the last one is extremely far fetched, but I wanna be comprehensive.

    • RE: Accurate Miniature Equivalents for Custom Painting your 1940 E&P

      Wow, I’m jealous, these are amazing! Congrats on a great looking set! I was resolved to do the same thing for this game, only 1/200th or so of what you are doing. I was going to paint 1 of each piece for each participating power (whether or not  they start with one on the board at set up). Then if that went well I might do a few more. But I burnt out soon and realized that I should be painting my FoW and WH stuff instead haha. Wonderful work. I thought about putting the symbol on the infantry base like you did, but I didn’t have the patience for 1 much less the 50+ you did. Great job!

    • RE: Scramble Question

      This is a really good question which came up in my last game and I just want to echo that I’d also love to hear an answer. In my game it was almost the opposite situation. I had a bomber in Hawaii that wanted to bomb 3 transports the Japanese player built in the Japan SZ with no other naval units. He had 2 Fighters and 2 Tac Bombers on Japan though and said he’d just scramble, I looked it up and we couldn’t decide on what the rules said, but we decided common sense dictated he could scramble and also reasoned he wouldn’t have put them there without naval proctection (and wouldn’t have left planes on Japan) if he thought they couldn’t scramble so we played it that they could.

      Sorry I don’t have an asnwer though.

    • RE: Statement from Larry Harris in regards to AAP40

      Its this kind of developer support to the fans that will keep me with A&A year after year. If only other game companies would take the time to do something as simple as a statement like this then table top gaming would be in such a better place. Thank you for taking the time to be so candid and considerate to your fans Larry.

      I just saw Katyn last night and it was really powerful. I highly recommend it but warn you to steel yourself first. It gives one a real appreciation that we are lucky enough to play with little plastic toys and pretend instead of living through times like those.

      Its a Polish movie, so here’s some facts in case you aren’t familiar with it from Internet Movie Database:

      Wow, thank you so much, both of you! I will be printing out the FAQ, we are loving this game and will be playing it a bunch more. Its funny cuz the people I can play this game with would never play A&A, so I love godstorm as the next best thing and the one board game i have that I can actually get people to play. +1 karma to you both when I get the ability to do so, I am PMing myself to actually remember it.

    • RE: 2210 or Godstorm

      I have to say that Risk Godstorm is by far the best after finally playing it (the last of all of them that I played. The others are all honestly terrible)

      The 4 gods and card system is amazing.

      I have one rules question to ask for those of you who played. There is one relic in the magic deck that gives you +3 to the bid to see who goes first for that epoch. My question is that in order to get that +3 do you have to sacrifice at least 1 faith token, to give you a minimum of 4? Or can you sacrifice 0 and still get the bonus to give you a minimum of 3. Or if its the first way and you sac 0 then you don’t get the bonus and its either 0 or 4 for the bid.

      I’m pretty sure by logic and by the wording on the card and rulebook that it means you get the +3 regardless of what you bid, 0 or higher. However my friends didn’t agree tonight and it was a big argument. I can see the opposing argument, but I do think that the interpretation of not needing to sacrifice a faith token is stronger. Can anyone help me?

    • RE: Money and additional chips in Europe, I hope

      I’m not worried about game components. I also own A&A Europe, Pacific, Revised, and A&A50. I keep all the game boards and components mixed together in one big pool for ease of storage and transportation rather than keeping them all separate and in their respective boxes. I have more units and chips than I could ever use in a million years and I’m sure this is true of 95% of all the people who are on this site, so it’s no big deal. If you own more than one version of A&A, regardless of which ones they are, you have enough pieces for anything. If you own as many as I do (5 games) then you even have enough to never use chips and go 1 for 1 representing each unit with its own piece.

      I’m not trying to brag, but I’m just saying, if you like A&A enough to be on this site and to buy the new version, then you most likely have more chips and money lying around so you don’t need to worry about being shorted in AAP1940.

      @frimmel:

      I’ve said my piece and am willing to agree to disagree from here on out.

      Agreed.  :-D  Also, the “geeky baggage” bit wasn’t directed at you specifically, so I apologize if it came off that way, I mean it for all of us, myself especially included as we’re all pretty geeky imho :-P  And the Casablanca metaphor was nice too.

      I hope you Live Long and Proser Frimmel (see geeky)

    • RE: Movie suggestions?

      @frimmel:

      Well we obviously didn’t see the same movie. JJ Trek was the biggest crap fest of the summer. Would you like me to trash it on a purely cinematic level or on a long time fan of Trek level?

      Potential spoiler alert below

      Also, I’m a new poster, so all due respect is really intended, I don’t mean to come off as a jerk, but I would like to defend this movie, also no desire to start a big debate, so I will say what I will, and if you feel like you would want to respond that is fine, but I’ll leave it at that in order to not go too far off topic.

      Haha, I’m aware a lot of lifelong trek fans were dissappointed but I don’t know why. I love star trek. My favorite series is certainly DS9. I’ve literally have seen every episode that has been aired, all the movies too. (Thanks Spike syndication for the biggest chunk of that! And no thanks for CSI :P ) I’m certainly no fair weather trek fan or newb fan. I am just shy of 23 years old btw, so I wasn’t around for TOS when it first aired, I’m sure that’s important for most die hard trek fans to establish. I’m sorry I am saying all this but as a new poster I thought it was helpful to know who your talking to.

      I’m sorry to see you didn’t like the film. I thought it was massively entertaining. It was a very sleek looking movie with a sexy cast (a first for trek really, minus the 1 obligatory hottie per series). It had a good pace, comic relief that wasn’t forced, plenty of nice nods to TOS, an amazing soundtrack, good FX that weren’t overbearing, good acting, and some emotionally stirring scenes as well. Also it had a lot of motion, most trek is largely dialogue driven and has very little movement on the screen, they’re often more like plays than movies, which is great! I love all trek, but its certainly nice to see our beloved characters in more than one light. The cinematography looked good to me. Each shot, all the sets, and the costumes all seem very carefully planned out to put evocative images on the screen.

      The plot was something that is clearly subjective, but I must say that I liked it. While they used a pretty cheesy device to set up a semi-alternate trek universe/timeline, that was okay b/c imho it was in fact trekky of them, much of the series episode’s plots were easily as cheesy :P.  Also, this film did the grunt work necessary to set up a whole series of films with this cast and setting that is just as legitimate as any other trek series, and borrows the best elements of TOS while also not being saddled down with canon and detail that is half a century old now!

      But most importantly, the greatest accomplishment of this film, and the ironically the one reason why I think the real indignation and enmity amongst die hard trek fans exists towards it, is that it made the series accessible for the FIRST time to non trek fans. Someone who doesn’t know what trek is, or hasn’t seen the series can go see it and enjoy it. I don’t think that would be true even of First Contact. It was simultaneously not weighed down with plot that you had to be an “insider” to truly enjoy while still containing plenty of little bits and bobs that only trek fans would even pick up on, and the general audience was none the worse for missing.

      Simply put, if you check your geeky baggage at the door when you see this movie, you will likely enjoy it very much and have a great time. That’s what a great movie really is to me.

    • RE: Advantages Incurred from the 1940 Start Date

      @Army:

      Pacific is the big naval game. I always get more tense watching the European theater. More ‘big guns’. Plus Africa is like a weeping sore that you keep needing to scratch.

      not to be too snarky, but aren’t the biggest guns on the ships, most of which are in the pacific? Those are serious business. But all them 88’s would scare the bejesus outta me in Europe too.

    • RE: Star Wars Quirks

      I know this is threadomancy, but I’m new so its okay. :-P

      I can’t stand how they killed off the Super Star Destroyer in Jedi. Lets just say that the 1 in a million shot of a pilot getting shot down and happening to crash into the bridge and get past the shields is all perfectly feasible and acceptable. Admiral Piette dies, the ship should be out of commission for a while, but it certainly wouldn’t be that catastrophic. I imagine on a ship that size (10km long!) they would have a backup bridge somewhere. I know in Star Trek, (I know, SW thread), the Enterprise has a secondary bridge. Its just common sense I’d imagine. If only 1 ship in the whole entre star wars galaxy had a second bridge it would be the executor.

      Then not only does it suffer a catasrophic failure, but it “goes down”. wtf? Okay, I’ll bite again, Endor is pretty close, the thing could have been in orbit, close enough to be pulled into the atmosphere. Okay, Endor is a Forest MOON. IF it is a moon then and the ship is subject to a gravitational pull, shouldn’t the executor crash into the planet that endor orbits… Or should it hit the moon? Nooo, it hits the moon that is orbiting the moon, the death star. How did it hit it anyways? When the A-wing flew into the bridge the executor was with the rest of the fleet helping to contain the rebels, it was sooo far away from teh death star…

      grr… That one just bugs me. You really have to suspend your belief like 10 separate times for that to pull off. It should have just gone adrift while they figured out who the new comanding officer was and they repaird the damage and then made way again.

      There are a million others, but that one is just salt in the wound. Talk about luck, the rebels make 1 in a million shots in like every movie…Lol, meanwhile the stormtroopers can’t hit the broad side of a sandcrawler… well except that one time that they did.  :lol:

      Are those new Japanese artillery pieces? I seem to remember that mine from every version of the game up until A&A50 has arty that looks identical to the ones in the pic, but the “legs” are closed together rather than spread apart like in these photos. Am I crazy? Oh yeah, first post!
