      I agree with you. I don’t care for bids either. I think either side can win if played right with the setup as is.

      That being said, Grasshopper’s list is very interesting. I think you should spice things up though. Make ONE of the dice rolls end up in a $15 bid for the Axis. Perhaps an extra German tank in Poland, an extra Italian tank in Tobruk and an extra Japanese infantry in Kwangsi.
      The Allies still have a 5/6 chance of getting some padding for themselves. But now there is a 1/6 chance that the Allies will have to go without.

      lol that’s insane.  It would be radical enough to have a 1/6 chance that the Allies get no bid, but to give 15 to the Axis?  Most players would give up before playing if they rolled that.

      Axis and allies has changed over the decades I have been playing. Probably 30 years. But one thing has not, the basics. And it makes sense since they are trying to stay true to what happened, in the sense of what the situation really was at a given point in time. Thereby, the fact remains that the real action is in Europe and whoever wins Europe wins the war.

      Britain and Russia cannot, unless playing a weak German player hold off the Germans long enough for Japan to be neutralize much less defeated. And if they could, then the resources spent on neutralizing Japan only means the allies would have won much earlier if those resources were spent in Europe.

      Now before everyone goes crazy on me and makes arguments that you just can’t completely and totally ignore Japan and give me all kinds of examples on how the old KGF strategy would not work in the newest editions, understand, I am not arguing a complete ignore of Japan, only enough resources to help Anzac, India, and China slow them down. Essentially, defensive in the Pacific and the offensive in Europe.

      That part of the game has not changed EXCEPT, that with the Victory cities only requiring Japan to hold 6 of them, forces the US to go offensive in the Pacific.

      That is why I do not like it. It forces in unrealistic and ineffective strategy.

      ––I agree that you have a really good European strategy there.
      Our ‘gang’ usually has somewhat the same priorities, although our ‘gang’ tends to make any enemy Sea Transport target priority #1. Thus we usually have some brutal sea battles, and thus require more Destroyers to be used as “cannon fodder” losses.
      1.) Take out the German navy, thus allowing security and an Allied fleet to exist.
      2.) Bomb the Germans back to the stone ages.

      @Young:

      I don’t play TripleA, but I imagine one can’t change the initial setup. However, in our table top games, players like to rotate different sides and nations fairly so everyone gets a chance to play something different. To achieve this, I think the Russians should trade their fighter in Moscow for a S. Bomber, the Americans should trade their destroyer in Hawaii for a Battleship, and the UK should trade their Mech Infantry in London for a Tank.

      Maybe upgrade the cruiser instead

      That should balance the game without the need to bid… What do you think.

      This link has everything you need.  I will be using the black 30 mm stand with peg and micro magnets from the above link.

      I think for global 40 sets will suffice, possibly 50. Need micro magnets for all the planes ( about 80-90) and 40 for the stands.

      This site has the proper magnets. Still looking for metal rods that are pre-cut about 2 inches.

      A friend of mine has the most perfect examples. Here is what he did ( reprinted from email).

      I bought the magnets from K&J Magnetics…  They were almost the smallest available size with a hole in the center to fit a 1/16" rod.

      I drilled holes in pennies, glued 1/16 inch brass rod into them, placed the magnet on top and glued it down.

      Great article and yeah sounds like your past games were about the same as mine. ONly a few good old friends we olny the occasional “beep” while throw a dice in disguse. As long as it’s just that….quick. Sometimes you just have to blow off a little steam and then realize “It’s just a game”. Plus later it’s great comical material against you. “Hey man don’t blow up if you lose this battle” and so forth. HAHA

      Yeah, I know.

      I normally drill Ethiopia, often with both loaded transports and both cruisers.
      I’m not sold on ALWAYS attacking an Italian fleet right away, though pasting Z95 fleets netted me 2 easy wins (but I got really luck dice both times)

      I just attacked Iraq on UK1 for the first time vs. Allweneed.  In hindsight it was brilliant, because the Iraqis never killed a single man - it was like Desert Storm, I guess.  :evil:

      I’m not sure what circumstances led me to do that - mainly a J1 attack, I think.  Then you have 2 transports 2 spaces from reinforcing India on UK2 if necessary.  You can’t say that about most other UK deployments.

      So our Cruisers combine those ideas and get:
      1-An attack and a defense @3 + 1 bombard @3,
      2-A first round AA @1 against 1 attacking aircraft,
      3-Cruisers when they shoot, either on attack or defense, and roll a 1 can force the attacker/defender to remove a plane.

      In the game I played, the AA has more of a psychological impact than a real effect.
      Indeed, it never destroyed any aircraft. And thus, neither by the AA and even by the “1” roll which force the defender to destroy an aircraft.

      But UK bought 3 cruisers, instead of any BB, against German Luftwaffe.

      Thanks everybody, those suggestions makes cruiser a more interesting unit that worth buying.

      However, it can be a real nuisance for Germany but it may also help protect the Baltic fleet against UK aircrafts: at least, it slightly upgrade the Baltic fleet to better defend against attacking UK planes.

      The biggest draw is NO WAITING!

      The reason the UK is so heavily damaged is to incetivize Germany to keep the Blitz going.
      Knock the UK up to 20 damage and watch them flounder for the next few turns. It really takes the pressure off the French coast so Germany can focus on Egypt and Russia.
      Sea Lion is a bad idea. But bombing England so bad that the UK is better served building in South Africa (to try and keep Italy and Germany off the continent) affords Germany the important 3 or 4 turns of breathing room to get deep into Russia.

      Russia faces some tough choices. It can back up constantly and build up a massive stack in Moscow, but Germany will get all the cash in the south and starve you to death. Its really cat & mouse on that front.

      There are some glitches in the setup, being that an all transport build for the US and an attack on Europe can throw Germany out of balance (or so some have said)
      Likewise, Japan can ignore everything else on its plate and go head long for India and take it.

      To cure this I have been considering adding an Airbase to Holland/Belgium (so German fighters/Tacs can strike allied boats in SZ91)
      And to reinforce India add another ANZAC infantry and an ANZAC AA gun
