      @WILD:

      @knp7765:

      This is why we modified the Russian NO with our own house rule……

      I know this is out of place, but the Russian NO is very much part of an over all Med strat….(one that shouldn’t exist IMO).

      Yea, the 3 IPC bonus the Russians get for Italian African territories, and Med islands is ridiculous (it has been a major gripe sense it was introduced). This theater was never a realistic or historic goal for the Russians, and it is exploited way to much as ppl get more familiar with it. This NO was changed partially to boost the Russians if there is a Sea Lion (kinda like a penalty), but now it is being manipulated even w/o Sea Lion.

      IMO Finland, The Balkans, The Mid East, and Eastern Europe (Orig German territories) are a realistic goal. I’l even buy Original Italian possession in Europe like Albania, parts of N Italy and maybe even Rome could also be added to the list (but the Americans beat them to it for the most part).

      What we are experimenting with (not an original house rule by any means) is that Russia gets a bonus for any Orig German, Orig Italian, Pro Axis Neutral , and Pro Allied Neutral territory that Russia is in control of equal to that territories IPC value (could also include True Neutrals activated by the Axis, or liberated by Russia from the Axis). This makes the Italian Med islands worthless, and Libya/Ethiopia hardly worth going after. It will tone down some territory bonuses for the Russians (like Bulgaria), but allows them some new territories to target as well that were more in tune with their goals IMO.

      Obviously Finland was a major goal, but so was the Balkans (Bulgaria, Yugo, Romania, maybe Albania, and Greece) especially once they beat back the Germans (like in a Sea Lion attempt, or a failed assault on Moscow). In The Mid East it still allows the Russians to gain NO bonus for control of Iraq (reduced), and now Persia for added income once at war (could be as late as R4 before they could be in either because they have to pause in NW Persia). The NO bonus for Iraq, and Persia could also simulate the lend lease coming up through the Persian Gulf. I know that Persia being Russian isn’t very historical as it was British controlled (Russia did invade what is NW Persia though). My thinking here is that if the UK doesn’t take Persia early (leaving it for Russia), then the Allies are out some English Pounds and a couple of inf needed early on. If Germany does a G3 Barbarossa, then by time Russia gets to Persia it would be Rus4 (6 or more IPCs lost to England if they activated it UK1). It would be a viable target however for the Russians to Liberate Persia from the Axis after going for the Oil Bonus, to get a bonus of their own).

      In the event of a Sea Lion (or failed assault on Moscow), the Russians would still get good bonuses for the orig German, orig Italian, Pro Axis Neutral, and now some Pro allied Neutral territories in the Balkans & Mid East (average of 2-3 IPCs each). If they crack into Northern Italy, or Greater German territories then their NO bonuses rise even more.

      The med island thing is no big deal, since 1 axis plane in SITA stops any russian landing.  But, I do like the NO changes you proposed.  It should only affect Original axis in Europe, and all neutrals in Europe/Middle-East. (No islands).

      @knp, 3D6 heavies have never been popular. Back in the early nineties we played off and on with them. It’s one of those things where if you have them, you love them if you don’t, well life is hell. I like the 2D6 and seems like most players can live with them especially on the Global scale and sheer number of units on the board.

      Personally I liked it better when SBR came out of the player’s bank. People really hate that one and democracy usually rules most of the time when you have a regular group. I understand why people hated that one, however I liked it. It’s one of the things I like about disrupting convoys.

      Honestly I love HBG, you can now add a lot of stuff to the game especially when it comes to tech. SPA and TDs are a must.

      Anyway your thoughts on mech blitzing and both dice counting for heavies was spot on.

      Ah, I get what you are saying. No, I don’t have those numbers because I didn’t think of that. I would have to check out the whole setup again. In that case, it might go a little better for the Allies because they have a LOT of empty territories. The Axis have very few, I think just 2 or 3 of the Japanese islands.

      @Young:

      @Buran:

      I was thinking of somethings similar but would either use an AA gun style attack with 1 die @1 for every ship, up to 3 ships. But I’m not a big fan of this, I was thinking of a more decided unit. Either using the bunkers from Battle of the Bulge, or the new coastal guns the HBG is working on. With these new options then I think that your idea would of a 1 die @3 would work better.

      1. I like the idea of a separate unit from HBG (same mold and colour for all).

      2. I would put them at $6 each with zero movement and are destroyed upon capture

      3. How about making them just like AA guns, multiple guns allowed on one territory, 3@1 per gun, up to the total number of enemy surface warships in the sea zone from which the amphibious assault is coming from, for one round only.

      4. In this system, do you think they can be used as casualties?… for $6, I would think so. Should the setup include any?

      That’s a better idea. I wasn’t sure how much you would be into HBG units though. Some guys don’t like them. I will probably make some with my craft supplies I just haven’t got around to it.

      @variance:

      I never played revised, but from what you describe I imagine these would be a good addition:

      Germany
      Wolf Packs : If you attack with 3+ subs, raise their attack factor to 3

      Soviet Union
      Russian Winter: Once per game, the Soviet player may declare a “severe winter”; until the start of the next round, all Soviet Infantry defend on a 3.

      Japan
      Dug-In Defenders: Infantry on islands defend at 3.

      United States
      Marines: Your infantry attacks at 3 during the first round of an amphibious assault

      United Kingdom
      Radar: AA hits at 2

      Italy
      Rome Express: Destroyers can carry 1 infantry

      ANZAC
      Sydney Express: Destroyers can carry 1 infantry

      Kinda bland. No offence intended.

      The only one of those i REALLY have a problem with is japan’s dug-in-defenders.

      U.S.A players a notorious for skipping the islands and going straight for Japan so Harry decided to give people encouragement by giving people $$$ for them.

      But dug-in-defenders completely nullify this, and it makes for all the more reason to skip the islands as the Allies.

      @variance:

      Its nice how its simple and it gives a victory condition for both the allies as well as the axis. It’s not “the allies win if the axis don’t”; the allies can’t “win” by just stacking Cairo and Hawaii forever. I could see the axis going for Berlin, Warsaw, Paris, Rome, Tokyo, Nanking, Hong Kong, Manila, and then Leningrad, Moscow, Stalingrad, with UK struggling to defend either Cairo or Calcutta (but not both) and allies race to get Paris or Rome in time. That should actually work pretty well I would think!

      That’s exactly what I was thinking Vance…

      My Axis strategy would be to hold Berlin, Paris, Warsaw, Rome, Leningrad, Moscow, Tokyo, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Manila, and any pair of Cairo, Calcutta and/or Stalingrad for the win.

      My Allied strategy would involve holding all their “untouchable” cities like Ottawa, Washington, London, San Francisco, Honolulu, and Sydney. I would then give them individual responsibilities for the UK to hold Calcutta and Cairo… for the US to take Paris and get back Manila, and for Russia to hold Moscow and Stalingrad for the win.

      I like these victory conditions because it’s the same objective for both sides, and lets face it, if either side holds 12 cities after the 5th round… it’s pretty much over anyways.

      This is the chart I use. @SS:

      @SS:

      This is in our game.

      Turn 1   Fall/Winter  39-40
      Turn 2   Spring/Summer  40
      Turn 3   Fall  40                        Rasputitsa
      Turn 4   Winter  40-41             Winter
      Turn 5   Spring  41
      Turn 6   Summer  41                Monsoon
      Turn 7   Fall  41                        Rasputitsa
      Turn 8   Winter  41-42             Winter
      Turn 9   Spring  42
      Turn 10 Summer  42                Monsoon
      Turn 11 Fall  42                        Rasputitsa
      Turn 12 Winter  42-43             Winter
      Turn 13 Spring  43
      Turn 14 Summer  43                Monsoon
      Turn 15 Fall  43                        Rasputitsa
      Turn 16 Winter  43-44             Winter
      Turn 17 Spring  44           Nothing after turn 16

      Winter: You can declare 2 winters during the game, but it has to match the winter season on above chart. The Russian winter is effective only on USSR territories. As a defender, USSR infrantry and artillery defend at 3 or less in first round of combat. As attacker, USSR infrantry attack at 2 or less.

      Rasputitsa: During the fall using above chart, the USSR player can declare it rasputitsa during the non combat move phase of your enemy and roll 1 dice. If you get a 3 or less, your enemy won’t be able to make any ground non combat moves. Only effective on USSR territories.

      Monsoon: During the summer using above chart you roll1 dice and if you get 3 or less, you cannot move ground troops in Yunnan,Burma, India, and Indochina.

      Hitler should of just attacked in the spring. LOL

      You could use the US chart in this post for US and Japan.

      The rule did change for Russia.

      What could be unbalancing is UK putting a minor in Egypt (and/or Iraq) UK1, even with a sealion feign UK could still put a minor in Iraq or Egypt with little to no repercussions.
      If Germany doesn’t threaten Sealion (Or DOW Russia) G1, UK could put a minor in both Egypt and Iraq and an Airbase in Egypt, and still plop a couple INF in UK or India. (Sounds powerful)

      The thing is, in G40 enhanced this rule change is along with adding all of Canada and the 2 South African territories to ANZAC (creating the Common Wealth Dominions).
      This takes away some UK income (10IPCs), thus reducing the impact of a single UK economy, thus reducing the overall impact on game balance.

      Would just need testing.
      And speaking of, im looking at some time off work coming up, and will be testing alot of G40 enhanced out.
      And A F2F game during thanksgiving, in which id like to play atleast a preliminary version of G40 enhanced.

      That’s fair, would also include the caveat for Spain that Germany must be at war with the Soviet Union (since they can get a peacetime NO to start with).

      Liberia should also be US-friendly, not that it would ever play a role in the game.

      Here are my house rule suggestions for economic balance in Global…. it’s not much, but that’s the point.

      #1. The $5 Russian National Objective for no axis ships in the Norwegian convoy zone #125, control of Archangel, and no allied units on originally owned Russian territories has now been modified and split into 2 different National Objectives for Russia.

      Lend Lease

      $5 National Objective for no Axis ships in the Norwegian convoy zone #125, and for control of Archangel.

      National Prestige

      $5 National Objective for at least 1 Russian warship on the board, and no Allied units on any originally owned Russian territories

      #2. Two significant National Objectives that were dropped after Alpha +3 have now been reinstated.

      Merchant Shipping Protected
      #1. 5 IPCs for the United Kingdom if the Atlantic is free of German submarines.

      Germany controls London
      #2. 5 IPCs for Germany if they control London.

      #3. When the United States declare war, they are automatically given the War Bonds technology for free.

      Is this giving to much to the Allies?
