      I really like the idea of 1 IPC per valueless allied pacific island. I am going to propose that to the group I play with, because we are always looking for a way to balance the game, but at the same time try to keep it as close to OOB as possible.

      What we have been doing for several games, and it is working well, is this:

      Play “cry uncle” - so no Victory City win condition for Axis.
      Germany not allowed to build factories in original German controlled territories.
      USA can do whatever they want in the European theater only, right away in turn one.

      Here are some HBG units that should be helpful for France when using the Cliffside Bunker split UK house rule. There are 2 types of battleships and I use the revised 2004 vessels as the cruisers, and the Nevada class vessels for battleships.

      I believe i read the poll question correctly YG  :wink:  The additional 4 unit bonus from liberating Paris is the only extra French units i’ve used in the OOB set up.  Oztea’s 1941 asks for a bit more, which is fun, but obviously for a mod.  Your purchases will be more than adequate IMO.  The real question I want to know is…what’s this new UK Pacific Nation you speak of??  Excited to hear about that!

      @Arthur:

      Containing either Germany or Japan by themselves is a piece of cake; getting the perfect timing and strategy to first contain Japan and then switch to Germany is the struggle.  My question:  at what turn do most players shift a majority of spending to the Atlantic side?

      That really depends on what all Germany/Italy are up to, and on what turn Japan pulls the US into the war. If you gave some scenarios, I might be able to have some kind of feedback for your question. It varies wildly–for me at least.

      I made this thread a while ago, but sadly nobody had any great ideas to share:

      It depend on the kind of restricting rule. For example a rule forbidding subs to fire on subs – since there is only one case in which a submerged sub sunk an other submerged – is far more easier to employ as a restriction in production.  :-)

      @John:

      Thanks so much YG for interviewing Sean Michael’s game. I bought it, but haven’t had time to play it. This video, will help learning the game faster. :-)

      No Problem John, if you start saving now… maybe we can meet at the FMG convention next year ( 8-))

      It would be cool to meet you, but it is hard for me to travel far, because I own a retail business that keeps me more localized, here in Texas. I don’t get Saturdays off, which makes it tough. I can take off on a Saturday, as long as it isn’t between October and December, and I have to plan ahead, for it.

      I hope, some day, but if not, maybe Freddy can hold a convention, where he lives, and I could travel to his event, if he ever has something.

      Historical Board Gaming, also has their conventions in Tulsa, usually in May, which would be better for you. I attended their convention this year, because it was close enough, where I could drive to. I could leave Friday night and be there till Sunday night.

      Either way, I hope to meet you someday. That would be awesome. :-D

      In a game without bids, the med is still interesting in 50% of my games, and nearly all games I have ever played involve Taranto. Granted, 50% is not 100%, but still, it happens pretty often. In a game without bids, the Med can be, and often is, simply more fun and more interesting. I’m not saying no Allied help, mind you, just not a bidding system (I have been recently playing with +10 IPCs/turn -> USA).

      In a game with bids, those bids often put a UK sub there to make Taranto nigh un-losable, and even an extra Inf in Alexandria/Egypt on top of that, and yeah, I can see how that pretty much ends the intrigue.

      @drummerinheat:

      Does the blue color for the oceans match?  My Pacific side is a liter or more faded blue than the Europe side.  Even the replacement was off colored.

      I have the same, and I never even noticed it until someone else mentioned it to me. Now I can’t un-see it :p

      Still, the difference is quite minor–enough to not even notice for five months and a half dozen games.

      While the United States are a neutral power, American warships (not naval transports) must end their non-combat movement phase in one or more of the following sea zones depending on which game round it is:

      During round 1: in sea zones 89, 101, 106, 116, 121, and/or 120

      During round 2: in any sea zone listed for round 1, plus sea zones 90, 102, 107, 117, and/or 122

      During round 3: in any sea zone listed for rounds 1 and 2, plus sea zones 103, 108, 118, and/or 123

      @Young:

      @Nippon-koku:

      Japan has to almost have a perfect game to take India round 4 by not losing any land units on the islands and taking out ANZAC’s DD + TT round 1.  There are no guarantees in a dice game.

      Exactly.  On top of that, even if Japan does take India round 4, how does it look on the rest of the board?  Japan can’t take India round 4 AND dominate the waters AND completely wipe out China AND take care of the Siberian troops (most games I’m using those units to attack Manchuria or Korea) AND completely control the money islands.

      If Japan goes all out to get India by round 4 the Allies can cause them a lot of headaches elsewhere.

      I think new players favor the Calcutta crush, while experienced players understand other priorities.

      And I’ll fully admit that Calcutta crush can appear unstoppable to new players who find themselves on the receiving end

      AA is unique to the extent it fits in between light “war games” like the ones these guys like and the real mind buster/hex and counter games.  People who want more realism etc go for the latter while lighter players go the former, leaving us who want something in the middle with AA.  It’s hard to convince either type to go in for middle when they want something really complicated or easy.

      Yeah, but they can’t make it to Alexandria to defend your Italians on a straight-for-Egypt push, though they can still take part in an Egypt strafe if necessary on G3 (but then be way out of position for for G4 instead of back on S. Italy prepped to head into Russia).

      They can still bomb/escort for a G2 raid on London before a Sea Lion.

      The thing that really killed sea lion for me was the R threat. Perhaps you guys are masters of both taking London and holding R at bay?

      Sure if London is begging to be taken, but no decent player of the UK would allow that to happen.

      Clearly I have much to learn! :-)

      and there’s a very cool expansion coming out in 2016 called Ta Seti.
