Hey Ydavid, I got a page that told me “access denied”. Sorry dude, I can’t view it to tell.
I think you just have to be a registered user at Flames of Europe.
I’d like to leave this up a bit longer before telling you all what happened.

Has anyone ever heard of, or thought about, an A&A gaming week in Las Vegas?
I was driving home in the rain last night and was just thinking that could be a lot of fun…
The word would have to be spread to other sites, but wouldn’t it be cool if we had a large gaming get together in Las Vegas sometime? We could have people sign up and play total random strangers in 5 player teams with an “optimized” bid for the version they are playing (A&A 2nd, A&A 3rd, AAR, AAP, AAE, etc).
How much fun would that be?
hmm, I’ve seen people post maps before. Wonder what the problem is?
I forgot to mention, we’re playing on the ADS server.
Hi all,
I wanted to generate some comments about a game I’ve been playing with TMTM to help me learn about the differences between Revised and 2nd edition.
This is the map after 4 rounds. You’ll see that both sides have something going for them. My question is, is there an apparent edge? Does one side have a clear advantage or is the outcome no longer in doubt?

Later I’ll tell you what happened, but I’m curious, being an experience 2nd edition guy I don’t necessarily see the nuances involved in AAR. I’m the Allies, is/was my cause hopeless?
Do you buy the IC for India on UK1? Did the Gibralter BB survive G1?
I think if Germany bid that I would have united my fleet in sz8 and built an AC there on UK1 then I would have dared him to come out.
I did not build an IC for India, instead I bought an AC and trn for Britain. I was not going to try an Asian Wall strategy. Perhaps I’ll try that next time. I placed them off the coast of France (moved the BB and trn to join them), so he was able to sortie and hit them, but basically it was a mutual destruction battle. His AC survived, along with 2 planes. He landed the planes in WEU and I killed the empty AC immediately with British air on B2. As I said, I’m not sure if it was the best move (pretty well eliminates B1 purchases plus ftrs), but it did eliminate the Baltic fleet early in the game, which is important, so I’m not saying it was a bad trade. His fleet at the time of B1 was 2 subs, 2 des, 1-2 trn, 1 AC, and 2 ftrs. That’s a respectable shield. As it is now, I have free rain with a Brit fleet in the Baltic, though I don’t think it’ll save me (Germany is the obvious death threat to Russia but Jpn is probably the real stick, he’s got 3 ICs now and will be in range of CAU, and probably take out Novo also.)
The Gibraltar BB did not survive G1, if I remember correctly, he took it out with his bomber.
I’m gonna be sick :) What’s next, the return of Icky Woods?
I think one could argue that West Virginia is a special case since it was split up during the Civil War…dividing a rebellious state into a loyal and unloyal state does make some sense.
Where did the bid go if you don’t mind my asking? I assume with a bid of 12 it was 4 Inf. or…
Actually he bid a des in the Baltic, and then bought an AC. Then he used the fleet to slam British shipping, basically killing both fleets on G2. In some ways I didn’t mind at all, I had to deal with that fleet somehow, sometime, in others though, it of course set the Allies back. I could have not exposed the British fleet, I think if I were to do it again that’s what I’d choose, but it wasn’t a terrible outcome.
TMTM requested 12 in a game I’m playing against him. I get the feeling he’s pretty experienced with the Revised edition (I’m not, this will be my first full game of AAR). Since he’s pretty well setup to beat me, I think the bid is about right. I had some trouble early with the increased shipping time, etc and probably messed up early (mismanaged the Atlantic fleet) but I think I played pretty well with Russia, and by the end of round 3 I’ll have a pretty good foothold in Europe (projecting control of WEU with 8 Allied units, EEU with 1 spoiler, Spain 9 US inf, 3 arm, and I’m debating an attack on SEU). ON the other hand, he’s whipping Asia with Japan, and the bid went to Germany…that was parly my fault though as well though I didn’t account for the increased Jpn air force and let a blocking force in BYR get killed J1.
I’m not sure for certain but my inclination is to say it is not normally included.
If you think that’s bad, how far have my Niners fallen. Once a glorious franchise, a shining beacon under the NFL lights, now York runs a triple A team…
Or even better divide California up into a couple states.
As a resident of NorCal let me say I’d absolutely LOVE that solution. The state assembly voted on it years ago (divinding into North CA and South CA) it failed by a narrow margin. Since then the preponderance of votes has grown in the south so it’ll never be closer- they’ve got too much to lose. I really would love to jettison those idiots down south…yeah that’s a generalization, but I’m ok with it :)
Puerto Rico will make up its own mind. They’ve stayed the same because they enjoy many of the benefits with little of the negative consequences applying for full statehood would possibly create. I don’t think it has anything to do with going from 50 to 51 states or anything, it’s not as if the Senate has denied a formal statehood request.
I believe they’ve voted to remain a territory believing that was their best interest. Hard to argue with them about that since they know their situation better than I do.
3-4 fighters and only 1-2infantry
That’s similar to what I had opposing me in WEU. There were 2 inf and 6 fighters, a major impediment to Allied naval units. Therefore, I sacrificed 4 inf, 1 rtl, 1 arm, 1 bmb to kill the inf and 3 planes. The nice thing was, I weakened the airforce enough that he’s no longer opposing my Atlantic shipping, now the game gets interesting. The Eastern theater is a nightmare for me, but he’ll have to counter my UK capture of Nor and WEU or he’ll have to let me build up a significant Allied force, really soon (11 inf, 3 arm). I’ve got my two-front war, now hopefully I can hold out long enough that Russia doesn’t fall.
That’s what I would worry about, R fighters are very valuable because Russia can’t afford to replace them. They need them to be able to trade territories with Germany, using inf, so a G counter wouldn’t destroy any built up rtl or arm.
The same is true of G ftrs to some extent. In fact, I’ve conducted a suicide attack before knowing that I could not win, but also knowing I could severly damage an air fleet (most recently against TM).
