      @CWO:

      I’ve just noticed that HBG’s battle pieces index page has been given an improved look.  In addition to the three traditional “In Production” / “Design Stage” / “Wish List” category pictures, it now also shows 12 national roundels which can be clicked to bring you to a particular national subcategory.Â

      http://www.historicalboardgaming.com/Battle-Pieces_c_14.html

      everytime I check out HBG i check out the wish list section and :( there’s never anything there

      What would like to wish for?

      First $1 million in unmarked bills… a 1967 shelby mustang (Ellenor)… I have the hot blonde so moving away from that… oh and to be a rock star (insert song here)

      Seeing as I doubt I’ll get those. How about a little grey capital markers, kick ass little Kermlin and Riechstag. A UK set with a two engine bomber, a US set with the long tom artillery, French pieces that are well French, a KV-1 piece, oh and can you guys offer a Neutral set that has 12 white inf., 4 ivory inf., 3 little grey inf. and 4 orange inf. and finally a ANZAC set. After all that and my head stops spinning from all the cool little army men I have time to think of what’s missing from there.

      oh and a machine with the abilitie to fast forward and rewind time.

      or am I asking to much?

      In the year and a half since my post you guys have done awesome filling my wish list.
      Check: UK set with 2 engine bomber, ANZAC set

      Planning to be checked: US set with long tom artillery, French pieces that are French

      Not checked: little capital markers (still want them), Neutral set (don’t want it anymore because I just bought them separately), KV-1 (where’s my KV-1 and don’t tell me I’ll shot my eye out)

      Above and beyond: This is the stuff I didn’t either know I wanted until you guys said it was going to be made. Catalina Flying Boat, Everything in the UK set, Panzer IV, everything in the new USA set, Sea planes.

      Being a consumer that apparently is never satisfied I’m already working on a new wish list if you want to hear it.

      All in all good job guys

      Seeing as the USA supplied so much equipment to France why not let USA buy the French units and they get placed at UK ICs? You can always put some limits on it such as only one unit per turn, or only ground units. Wouldn’t want USA just mass producing Allied pieces from UK ICs.

      That said I think the nightmare scenario  is that the Allies doing something off the wall like destroying every VC it can because the Axis can’t win without capturing X VCs and if that number of VCs don’t exist anymore then well you can’t win by loop hole.

      Do you mean the Allies destroying their own VCs to prevent an Axis victory?  That’s impressively imaginative and impressively ruthless.  It would be a little hard to justify to the civilian population, but full points for creativity.  (I’ve just found myself wondering: would Churchill broadcast from London the announcement that London is going to be self-nuked in one minute, or would he escape the blast – though not the criticism – by traveling to Birmingham first?)

      yes that’s what I’m talking about. the Allies nuking VC for no other reason than to take them away from the Axis to prevent victory. “oh crap German has 7 VC better nuke Paris.” Or Italy has just taken Egypt better nuke Cairo. It would be the big giant middle finger of a strategy and not anywhere close to what we as A&A players are looking for.

      You know I liked the idea of it destroying a VC when it was first brought up but the more I think about it the more I see how gamey the idea is and the more I don’t like it.

    • RE: Worst part of the game so far

      @Whackamatt:

      When people view this game, it should be through the prism of the original Axis and Allies.  Remember that first version, with no destroyers, artillery, tac bombers, etc?  This is the first iteration of WWI.  I’m sure many of the things people feel are missing now will be included in future “revised” or "anniversary edition"s.

      My only complaints about the board is how crowded it gets in Europe, even with only two powers in a contested territory, and the lack of pieces for OOB.

      I agree with this completely. Remember for years people wanted artillery and destroyers and we got them. Space is an issue and I think the lack of pieces for OOB will well for me be resolved the min. a 2nd edition or revised edition or basically a second WW1 game is released. Just like Revised was skin and bones and Europe and Pacific came out and now we have more than enough pieces the same should happen here. I for one almost always struggled with the number of piece that came in Classic.

    • RE: Need Atom bomb input…

      @MidnightExpress:

      Here are the old A&A Nova Games rules for the bomb:

      “(14.12) THE ATOMIC BOMB: In addition to the capability of producing the atomic bomb, players must pay 10 in production certificates to produce one. The atomic bomb enters the game like any other new unit – at provinces containing industrial complex units.
      (14.121) Atomic bombs, like anti-aircraft and industrial complex units can be captured.
      (14.122) Atomic bombs must be loaded on bombers (using one movement point) and moved to the province where they will be used.
      (14.123) If a player has the special weapon rockets and he also has an atomic bomb in a province containing one of this anti-aircraft units, he may nuclear attack a province or sea zone up to two provinces away instead of using his strategic attack with the rockets capability. He does not need to use a bomber for delivery.
      (14.124) Players are limited to one atomic bomb(plus any they capture) on the gameboard at any one time.
      (14.125) Nuclear attacks eliminate the atomic bomb plus all units in the province or sea zone (including anti-aircraft and industrial complex units).
      (14.126) Atomic bombs may be transported by bombers as well as used for nuclear attack – no more than one bomb per bomber.”

      These are fairly simple and straight forward. Regarding the original question, I think the bomber should endure a round of AA fire just like any other plane. This at least gives the victim a slight chance of surviving the attack. However, my own opinion on A-Bombs in A&A is that they’re too powerful and devastating, but if you weaken them to the point that they eliminate only a handful of units, what’s the point in trying to obtain one rather than another technology such as heavy bombers? I did like the idea I saw earlier in the thread that it eliminates a victory city.

      Being a game, I’d rather build up an invasion force and attempt to invade the Japanese home island rather than drop one bomb and then game over. That being said, for house rules I’d use the old Nova A-Bomb rules since it has a connection to A&A’s creator.

      If you’re going to make the A-bomb destroy or remove a victory city the Allied victory conditions need to be reworded. As it stands now the Allies have to take and hold, Berlin, Rome, and Tokyo. With an A-bomb that destroys a victory city then if the Allies destroy Tokyo then they can’t capture Tokyo and thus can’t win by loop hole. I say reword it so the Allies win if the Axis don’t control Berlin, Rome, and Tokyo. So if it’s not there anymore you don’t control it.

      That said I think the nightmare scenario  is that the Allies doing something off the wall like destroying every VC it can because the Axis can’t win without capturing X VCs and if that number of VCs don’t exist anymore then well you can’t win by loop hole.

      The way I’ve looked at it during the days of Classic was Heavy Bombers was code for nuclear bombers. They were a game changer, game breaker, and once someone got them the game was basically decided. Now-a-days Heavy Bombers have been weakened to the point that it’s not a stand-in for nukes.

      @CWO:

      You may be a WWII junkie if…

      You find yourself indignantly saying “Hey, wait a minute…” to your television set when the narrator of a WWII documentary says something which is incorrect, or when you see that the film editor used footage of Event A or Weapon B to depict Event C or Weapon D.

      I don’t say hey, wait a minute, anymore. I just roll my eyes. Does that still count? or does that make me a Jaded WW2 Junkie? Like watching the footage of a profile of a KV-1 tank being blown off when it’s used when talking about Barbarossa, Kursk, and The Battle of Berlin. And just rolling my eyes because I know the footage.

      If you know what a silhouette of a KV-1 looks like even when it’s bottom half isn’t visible

      I should have made something clear earlier sorry. I have never painted models or even plastic. I was only speaking to the purpose of primer and how (in theory) that effects painting models. Sorry should have said that in the original post.

      Your theory has some merit, certainly so when it comes to brushed-on primer. However, there are ways to retain detail and prime also.  :wink:

      good to know. My experience with primer is as of a contractor. Brushing wood, spraying or rolling drywall, rolling cinderblocks.

      @Yavid:

      A word from your friendly neighborhood contractor: part of the point of using primer is that it helps hide the imperfections on a wall or piece of wood as well as providing a great first coat. Using primer on models would hide the imperfections we call awesome detail. So you really shouldn’t use the stuff.

      Not necessarily true. I have primed all of my pieces and the detail still comes out. It all depends how you prime and how you pull the details out of the sculpt.

      Priming does a few things for you (subject to your preferences):

      • Serves as a base for your other layers of paint and creates a better sticking surface than the bare plastic (do wash your pieces with dish soap before painting or priming)

      • Black primer builds in a base shadow to the piece which can be very helpful for getting into the cracks without using a wash

      • White primer tends to make your other colors exhibit their true, bright color. Black primer may require another coat or two for the same effect

      • Primer can be any color you want, it just depends how you are layering the sculpt

      • Spray priming is always preferable on pieces of this size; you can get a very thin and even coat with either airbrushed primer or aerosol can. Priming with straight up paint on a brush will clog up all the detail areas of your pieces

      I should have made something clear earlier sorry. I have never painted models or even plastic. I was only speaking to the purpose of primer and how (in theory) that effects painting models. Sorry should have said that in the original post.

      What’s the difference between Brown, Italian Brown and Russian Brown? Oh and it’s not being done in UK Tan?

      I got my order in yesterday. Everything looks awesome. There were a couple flaws in the pieces that I’ll be emailing coach about but nothing is a big deal. Bottom line is less than 1% of the stuff I got had any errors. Whoever thought of putting the names on the bottom of the ships needs a medal that idea is amazing. I was hoping the Yellow-Green Neutrals was a match for OOB china and it’s not. If you don’t have the Yellow-Green set think Neon Yellow not china yellow and it’s not classic japan yellow. Color match on all the sets are D*** close at worse. UK being by far the best. France being the worse but the only way I see the difference in the French pieces is when the two pieces are touching. Detail on the stuff is awesome. They even put the drive train on the underside of the trucks!!!

      BONUS: I got enough points to redeem them to get the Next Japanese set pre-ordered. Hopefully the gift card shows up soon I would like to get it pre-ordered so I get the Kikka fighters.

      All and all I have to say great job guys keep up the good work.

      P.S. I see that you have a list of sets that are suppose to be coming out in 2014 and I can’t help but notice something. There’s no 3rd Japanese set there. Has that been canceled? Are you still planning on doing a 3rd Japanese set?

      Ship names… Not sure if that was my suggestion or Coach’s. Either way, it is cool and it is needed. The 3rd Japanese set is very much happening. WE WILL DO ALL BASE SETS! Eventually. We had to plan out the Japanese one early as we planned out the other Japan sets to make sure we got everything in there we wanted. We have lists extending years into the future of what will be done. Just not solid on time lines yet. Expect a round of Base Sets to be done last. Supplemental and Expansion pieces must be done first for everyone as best we can. We also tend to rearrange the order according you YOUR popularity.

      Well that explains a couple things. On this list of things going far into the future I have one question: There’s a part of your site that has wish list. Have you thought about putting up on the wish list the stuff on that your future list? So we can all bitch and moan about stuff that there and stuff that’s not of course got to love customers. :D the last part is a joke but the first part is a real question.

      We stayed away from Italy because FMG released their set but we will do an Italian set, not sure on release.
      We have many projects in line.

      Just throwing it out there but I would like to see France, 2nd Russian, or 2nd UK set after Axis Minor 2

      I’m all for that and some Anzac!

      What did you just order from HBG? :-)

      Russian set x2, Neutrals x1, Allied Minor (ANZAC, UK, and French) x2 each, US Marines x1, Germany x2, Japan x2, V-1 tokens, Neutral Inf. in 3 different colors, Communist China Roundel, extra trucks for USA, Japan, Russia, ANZAC and UK, Some Me-262s I’m going to paint brown to be Su-9s, and a lot of White transports so I can set them up in Convey Zones to make them easier to see.

      @knp7765:

      By the way, speaking of the new sets, what do all you guys think of the extra large French set? Kind of weird making a double size set like that. Looks like some cool stuff in it.
      I was wondering about the Dunkirque class Battleship. It looks a lot like the Richelieu. Was the Richelieu in the Dunkirque class?

      I couldn’t agree more about the Soviet artillery. that thing would be AWESOME.

      The extra large French set is great. I said it a long time ago and I’m glad to see they are doing it but they are giving France the Italian treatment. And starting from square one and doing everything. I know I will be getting both colors it’s available in. It doesn’t sound like much but when I do it will be the first set they came out with that I bought it in every color available. OOB Blue for Free French, Plum for Vichy France.

      NO MORE SAD RUSSIANS. Hey and bonus it gives you blue Russian units to work with coming up with house rules for them like Guard Units or Shock Divisions. So it’s like 2 sets in one. I for one am going to spray paint my blue Russians to be Red Russians to match HBG Red Soviet set. Doing so will give Communist China a OOB set of units and an expansion set.

      I’m wondering how excited people are to see the Facilities set will be done in neutral grey, white and in every countries color. Not only will your Naval Bases no longer be cardboard but you’re Japanese Naval Bases will be Japanese Orange, Your German ones will be Black. And they are doing 3 ICs. Major, Minor and OOB so if you wanted to you could use the Major IC as a Major, the OOB as a Minor and House Rule something for the HBGing Minor such as Research Facility.
