      the detail on the units weren’t great but they were top of the line back when they were released. the P-38 wizards does puts the Table Tactics one to shame to the point that I use the Table Tactics one as a night fighter and don’t get them confused with the regular P-38 on the same board in the same territories.

      @John:

      I keep hearing you all talk about table tactics. Is this another game’s pieces?

      Can one of you provide a link to this game and their pieces?

      Just trying to follow the conversation. I’m in the dark here, LOL. :-D

      Thanks,

      John

      Table Tactics was a company that sold 3 Axis and Allies Expansions.

      One called Central Powers it took the Classic map and made it into a WW1 game. The expansion came with the new units you needed to play the game and new set-up charts but you still needed Classic. The downside was it was still the same basic set up Germany and Japan vs. USA, UK, and Russia.

      There was also a WW3 expansion that was basically the same as Central Powers but different new pieces and different set-up.

      The last expansion was an expansion on basic Axis and Allies adding new units like landmines, V-2s, Fighter Jets, Super Bombers, Heavy Fighter, Landing Craft, and Jeeps.

      When revised came out they even went out and came out with a set you could get so your units match the new nations colors.

      You’ll have to keep an eye out on ebay to find them now a days

      @Baron:

      For those who like history,
      this article explained the significance of Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombing against the heavy bomber cities attack (66 cities vs 2 cities). Some cities were more damaged by conventional bombing (Tokyo for instance), other have more casualties (Hiroshima was only second, Tokyo was first with 120 000 deaths), a conventional intensive bombardment was around 4-5 kilotons vs 16.5 and 20 kilotons for the two nuclear bombing:

      Hairuo Guo, a temporary congregation of wandering atoms

      Japan didn’t surrender because we obliterated two of their cities with atomic weapons.
      They surrendered because Russia declared war on them.

      Rather than typing out a long-winded explanation, here is a well-written and well-supported article: The Bomb Didn’t Beat Japan… Stalin Did - By Ward Wilson

      http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2013/05/29/the_bomb_didnt_beat_japan_nuclear_world_war_ii

      It really change the way of seeing USSR. :-o

      part of the point of the bomb was it was one bomb. Look at what we can do with just this one bomb. Imagine what we’ll do to you when we fully load our fleet of bombers with them.

      @1Bean432:

      @Flashman:

      One other thought I’ve had on speeding up the game is to limit the number of attacks allowed per turn;

      Each CP gets 2 attacks, each of the Allies 1. To balance the UK can make 2 attacks but one must be in the Middle Eastern/African theatres. Maybe Russia gets 2 before America joins the war.

      CPs are not restricted geographically; e.g. Germany R1 can invade Belgium and Alsace, foregoing an attack on the Eastern Front.

      This could perhaps accomodate joint attacks, but each nation participating uses up one of their allowance.

      All powers should be allowed to make additional rounds of attack, at the price of having enemy units defend at + 1 for each additional round.

      This would solve the whole ‘1 infantry stopping the entire enemy army’ issue.

      It wouldn’t solve that issue. without fighting a battle until the bitter end you’ll have a small force holding up a large force. you could make it 19 rounds off combat but at the end of the 19 rounds if the defender ended up with 1 infantry then we’ll still be at the 1 infantry holding up the entire enemy army.

      There is going to be a KV-1 in that new Kursk game they are working on.

      Yeah I know but I’m not sure that game is a sure thing. I would like all 3 pieces they are showing us from that game. Elefants, KV-1s, and SU-152s oh my.

      War Plan: Orange looks awesome too.

      Both games are a sure thing, we are already working on rules for both games as well as the sculpts, both games are 1/2 done with their sculpts. These are going to be really cool games with really neat pieces.

      are we going to be able to buy the pieces separately from the game to add in to anything we feel the game is short on

      I do believe that the Jet Fighter from Table Tactics is a He 162 not a Me-262. And thank you I’ve been trying to figure out how to use them with every nation that got Jet Fighters getting Jet Fighters from HBG. Jet Tactic Bombers. I’ll have to do research to see if they were developed and experimented with.

      As far as the '41 carriers go for the Allies they are stand-ins for Midway and Malta Class carrier with HBG small carrier being Jeep Carriers.

      @CWO:

      My plastic storage trays are set up so that the butternut-grey ANZAC-pattern ANZAC pieces from AAP40(2) stand in for Australia, New Zealand and South Africa while the butternut-grey British-pattern ANZAC pieces from AAP40(1) stand in for Canada (which is understood to include Newfoundland, and which in principle would also include Eire if it ever went from being neutral to Allied).  That covers the six Commonwealth Dominions, in two groups of three each.  The only cross-set transfer I had to do was to allocate some of the AAP40(2) ANZAC AAA guns to the Canadian set, since AAP40(1) lacked an AAA sculpt.

      I would have used the generic AA gun for Canada just for zero cross-set transfer

      @knp7765:

      Maybe the guys at HBG could design little city pieces similar to the ones in Fortress America. Except these would have little tiny landmarks distinguishing each city:
      Washington DC with a little capital building and Washington Monument
      Moscow with a little Kremlin
      Paris with a little Eiffel Tower
      London with a little Big Ben
      San Francisco with a little Golden Gate Bridge
      Berlin with a little Reichstag
      Rome with a little Coliseum
      Honolulu with a little Pearl Harbor
      I am not familiar enough with the rest of the Victory Cities architecture to note famous landmarks there. I do know that Tokyo is next to a big volcano, Mt. Fuji I believe.

      that’s a little more than pieces then I’m talking about. But you’re dead on what I’m looking for.

    • RE: Franco-Anglo Alliance in G40.

      @knp7765:

      Hey Yavid,
      I like your idea for Vichy/Free France. I have been wanting to incorporate that into the game, but most of the house rules for that seem too complicated. Your rules seem fairly simple. I have a few questions:
      1 > If the Allies move into a French territory with no units in it (French Madagascar, French Equatorial Africa, French Central Africa, French Indo-China), those territories are simply liberated for Free France, right?
      2 > Vichy France is considered an Axis country and their remaining income goes to Germany during the Vichy France collect income phase. So, after Germany finishes their turn and collects their own income, you add whatever Vichy France has left to the German total for spending next round, right? So it is possible that Allied forces could cut that down a bit.
      3 > What happens if Axis forces enter Vichy French territories (e.g. Italy moving from Libya to Tunisia)? Since Vichy is considered Axis, I am assuming that Italy doesn’t actually take control of Tunisia, rather it is simply a shared occupation with the existing French infantry there.
      4 > Can French units, once they turn Vichy, move from one French territory to another (e.g. French infantry from French West Africa to French Central Africa)?
      5 > I am unclear what happens to the naval units. Are they also Vichy?
      A = Do they have to just sit in their sea zones?
      B = Or can they move and attack Allied ships?
      C = If Allied ships attack Vichy French ships, do they have to sink them or can they turn them Allied?

      I think that is it. If you could answer these questions, I think I can incorporate this idea into my next game.

      1. Liberate them for Free France, correct
      2. The way I play it is Vichy France collects there income and hands it straight to Germany. The Allies can cut into Vichy’s income by attacking Convoy zones. Vichy Frances turn is basically only handing money straight to Germany.
      3. If an Axis power moves into Vichy France then it’s just like if Germany moves units into Italian territories. The just occupy it together. With the added risk of Vichy France switching sides when it comes to defending it.
      4. No they can’t move there units around. Vichy France tired to pretend to be neutral so they tired to stay out of it without angering Germany.
      5. The French navy also becomes Vichy. Remember UK attacked the French fleet in the med. because it refused to surrender to the allies. It’s kind of the effect I’m shooting for. Remember Vichy units only fight for one round and only one round all surviving Vichy units then switch sides and become Free French. Now that I think about it Vichy shouldn’t be able to switch by being attacked by only aircraft. A popular UK move is taking the Mech Inf. from Egypt and attacking Syria with no help. Odds are the mech doesn’t hit and the French inf. has only a 33% chance of a hit thus turning it Free French.

    • RE: Franco-Anglo Alliance in G40.

      This is what I’ve been play testing for Vichy France rules. If Germany conquers Normandy and Paris the Vichy France capital becomes Southern France. Vichy France counts as an Axis Power. The French pieces in UK become Free French. France gives Germany all it’s ICPs. Vichy France can’t move it’s units out of Vichy France territories. Germany collects the income from Vichy France each turn. During Vichy France’s collect income phase. If the Allies attack a Vichy France territory one round of combat occurs after the one round all surviving Vichy French units become Free French pieces and switches sides for the remainder of the game. Including switching from the defender to attacker in the combat. Free France becomes it’s own power with it’s own turn but without a capital and without an income to begin with. Anytime a Vichy France territory is captured by the Allies it is instead liberated for Free France, and Free France collects the income from that territory. With there income Free France operates a lot like China buying only inf. but they can only be placed in territories that already have Free French ground troops there and only as many inf. as value of the territory. I’m considering allowing the inf and territory of French West Africa the become Free French just really to get the Free French ball rolling. As far as NO goes the Italian ones change from controlling the French territories to occupying them with at least one Axis land unit. Also the Japanese occupying FEC counts as a DoW on the Western powers.

      I believe that is everything. Oh as far as Free French and Vichy French pieces right now I’m using OOB French pieces for Free France and AA14 French pieces for Vichy France the battleship from that game is the cruiser and the cruiser is the destroyer. When HBG releases there French set then I’ll use the plum pieces for Vichy France.

      One of the issues I’ve found is the balance of power in the Med. sea. and the South Indian ocean. I’m considering add UK units to replace the French units the allies lost. Oh and the Vichy-Free France split happens after the Collect Income phase of the Power that captured Paris.

      Yeah I’ve seen them and they are nice for generic capital pieces but I think we as an Axis and Allies community with between the standard game, '41, '14, HBG and FMG pieces that we have moved past generic pieces. Basically I’m now spoiled and want nation specific pieces only now. See complain about French-Russian pieces

      how hard would it be to cut 2 of the engines of the bombers from classic? oh and have it looks good when it’s done.

      ––Just what particular aircraft are you wanting to end up with. The reason I’m asking is that there are already many two-enine bombers produced. Between all of the Out Of Box, Historical Board Gaming, Field Marshal Gaming, and now Shapeways units,…you have MANY, MANY, choices already.
      ----You might want to also check-out all of HBG’s Global Warfare 1939 Expansion Sets that are coming out very soon.

      “Tall Paul”

      sorry for the late reply. I was asking because I really wanted 2 engine bomber for UK and ANZAC to hold me over until HBG did one. Well right after I asked they made the B-25 available in UK tan and ANZAC grey so there’s no need or want to try to make some from classic bombers.
