    • RE: Worst invention in man's history (and why)

Red Tape was mans’ worst invention. Beaureaucracy goes right along next to it.

The pure ability to make a simple action so difficult that it becomes something more complicated than it should be.

Filing taxes is something of a mammoth sized headache. So many rules, so many regulations, miss one or screw it up and you go to jail, or the gov’t will come and steal more money out of your pocket.

Or the passing of needless laws that are never enforced, and then clogging the courts with the infractions of the new laws that are, in certain cases, designed to be broken.

The next thing I hate: Speed Traps.

These things are abused to the utmost. And are a large source of revenue for cities and Police Depts. I say we should get rid of them. If people want to speed in the middle of nowhere, fine with me, as long as you don’t do it near a populated area. Just don’t expect any help if you get yourself killed.

    • RE: LHTR: Larry Harris Tournament Rules

A quick question here regarding whether a move is legal or not.

In a PBF game here I attacked West Russia and seized the territory purely with infantry, I won the combat and occupied Wes Russia. In my next combat move I then proceeded to blitz with tanks through West Russia and seized Moscow.

The other player tells me that this is an illegal move, but the rules says I can blitz through territories that I control, and/or through territories that are enemy controlled but un-occupied (the ones that came with the 2004 edition, I bought it about a week ago).

      Was this a legal move?

To the best of my knowledge, this wasn’t an illegal move, since I was blitzing through a territory I had just seized.

Or playing videogames like “Crash and Burn,” or “Doom,” or running around in our birthday suits on the field during an NFL game.

      =)

But hey, at least you girls weren’t subject to the draft back in the day when women mostly stayed at home.

Although I can see how a womans’ life would become very much repetitive and BORING just sitting around at home, which is why the boardgame industry was booming in those days (I’ve been un-employed for about 2 months now and it’s driving me insane, one would think it’d be easier to get  ajob in the big city).

I see how that can be more universal but at the very end it switches to the address of a man……so it looks like it really does fold both ways.  :-)

Not that I’m going to be picky about it.

He still has resolve, something I’m finding to be more and more rare as time progresses.

And not many of our presidnets have shining reputations for good conduct.

Bush with the drunnk driving while he was young, Clinton with Monica Lewinsky, Bush Sr. with the “Bush Thing,” Jimmy Carters’ freelance diplomacy.

I’m sure I could pull up LOTS of nasty misconduct by our presidents if I wanted to.

Yet when it comes down to it, it becomes the choice of 2 evils.

Who is the LEAST evil person you would want in office?

At that point I gave up. So I’ll sit on the sidelines, rant, try to influence people to straighten up and fly right all the while I’m building up enough resources to get the hell out of dodge.

I know I’m a bit strange. Hoping that things will change even as I’m donning a lifejacket on a ship that is most assuredly sinking.

That’s the way I copy/pasted the quote from another member on another forum. I saw the quotes a little diff. on other sites too, but I didn’t concern myself too much with it. I view the word “Men” as being all inclusive, although you are right that it’d be more clear to the general public with the word “persons.”

"Frankly, these kids are too young and inexperienced to have a reasonable basis for consideration of the nuances of the issue for discussion. I’m sure they don’t think I’m right, but I am. I suspect it was intended as a harmless, but ill-thought-out lesson by the teacher. But people who can’t think through the consequences of such a “lesson” don’t need to be in a position of teaching kids.

The students need a few more years to grow up before tackling this question, and in my view the teacher needs to do some growing up too."-Marswolf.

Not my words, but it pretty much sums it up for me.

    • Fed. Judge dismisses NFA trial against LEO…..

Judge clears Illinois officer of gun charge
      By Tim O’Neil
      ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
      Wednesday, Aug. 30 2006

SEE THREAD http://www.hk94.com/hk/State-trooper-plead…gun-t20151.html For Past Discussion

Charges that an Illinois State Police sergeant illegally possessed a machine
gun were dismissed Wednesday by a federal judge, who ruled that the law was
“unconstitutionally vague” as applied to him.

In federal court in East St. Louis, U.S. District Judge David R. Herndon
dropped the charges against Sgt. James V. Vest of O’Fallon, Ill., who was lead
rifle instructor for the department’s District 11 in the Metro East area.
Herndon’s 26-page order says the confusion is over the federal law’s exception
for police officers, and whether Vest could reasonably be expected to know
whether he was breaking the law.

Vest was one of four people, including two other Illinois state troopers,
separately accused in January of illegally possessing machine guns. Such fully
automatic weapons are banned by federal law except for certain uses, such as by
the military and police agencies, or by people with a special license, which
      the four did not have.

A machine gun fires multiple rounds with one squeeze of the trigger.

How Herndon’s ruling would affect the other cases was unclear Wednesday, partly
because the charges against them are not identical.

Two other defendants, State Police Special Agent John Yard of Collinsville and
Dr. Harold Griffiths of Spaulding, Ill., have similar constitutional claims
pending before U.S. District Judge Michael J. Reagan in East St. Louis.

The remaining defendant, Senior Master Trooper Greg Mugge of Jerseyville,
pleaded guilty July 25 of possession of an unregistered machine gun. His
lawyer, John Delaney Jr., said Wednesday that he was studying the Vest case
ruling. “Who knows what will happen?” he said.

Clyde Kuehn, one of Vest’s lawyers, said Wednesday “was a very relieving and
happy day” for his client. Vest remains on administrative leave.

The four were charged after investigations by the federal Bureau of Alcohol,
Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. It was not clear at the outset what triggered
the probe. None of the four was accused of using the weapons in any crimes.

U.S. Attorney Randy Massey, whose office brought the charges, declined
Wednesday to discuss Herndon’s ruling. Massey’s office had opposed Vest’s
      motion to dismiss.

“We are evaluating the order and are looking into our options,” he said.

The charges carry a maximum prison term of 10 years and a fine of up to
$250,000, although federal guidelines call for less when defendants have no
      criminal records.

      Gun used in classes

The case against Vest concerned an M-4 machine gun, essentially a short-barrel
form of the standard M-16 military weapon, that he bought in 1998 and used in
his state police training classes. The charges allege that he lacked authority
from the state to buy or possess the weapon.

Vest argued that he bought and used it under the “law enforcement exception” in
the federal law. Some police agencies have machine guns in their arsenals,
      particularly for their tactical teams.

Herndon noted that the prosecution never claimed that Vest ever used the M-4
for anything but official purposes. The judge said the government argued that a
law enforcement agency, not a single police officer, has the authority to
permit possession of a machine gun.

But Herndon wrote that the federal law granting that authority was too vague in
this instance to support the charges against Vest.

“How would a police officer/lead rifle instructor such as Vest ever know
whether his possession of a machine gun or other prohibited weapon was legal,
as there is no guidance under the (statute) as to what constitutes proper
authority,” the judge wrote. “It does not appear that this statute was designed
to criminalize police officers even if they may be guilty of mere technical
      violations.”

Given that Vest apparently used it only for law enforcement purposes, Herndon
said, charging him “seems to go against the purpose” of the federal law.

A spokesman for the Illinois State Police headquarters in Springfield had no
comment on the ruling and said he could not discuss personnel matters regarding
      Vest.

In February, 10 Metro East police chiefs, two county sheriffs and two state
senators publicly urged leniency for the accused officers.

      To get a clarification:

You can bridge YOUR TRN and YOUR Troops (1 pt for TRN to load 1 pt. for TRN to unload) without moving the TRN provided the unit in question has the movement pts available for doing so (like Mech Infantry or Tanks?).

I’m not sure how this is handled with LHTR.

So I guess I’ll post a typed joke instead:

      WOMEN ARE EVIL BY NATURE

A sexy woman went up to the bar in a quiet rural pub. She gestured
alluringly to the bartender who approached her immediately. She seductively
signaled that he should bring his face closer to hers. As he did, she
      gently caressed his full beard.

“Are you the manager?” she asked, softly stroking his face with both hands.
      “Actually, no,” he replied.
“Can you get him for me? I need to speak to him,” she said, running her
hands beyond his beard and into his hair.
“I’m afraid I can’t,” breathed the bartender. “Is there anything I can do?”

“Yes. I need for you to give him a message,” she continued, running her
forefinger across the bartender’s lips and slyly popping a couple of her
fingers into his mouth and allowing him to suck them gently.
“What should I tell him?” the bartender managed to say.
“Tell him,” she whispered, “there’s no toilet paper, hand soap, or
paper towels in the ladies room!”

      The Purina Diet

I used to have a Labrador retriever. I was buying a large bag of Purina dog food at Wal-Mart and was in line to check out when a woman behind me asked if I had a dog (what a question).

On impulse, I told her no. I was starting The Purina Diet again. Although I probably shouldn’t because I’d ended up in the hospital last time.

But that I’d lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms.

I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is to load your pants pockets with Purina nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry & that the food is nutritionally complete so I was going to try it again.

I have to mention here that practically everyone in the line was by now enthralled with my story.

Horrified, she asked if I’d been poisoned.

I told her no, that I’d been sitting in the street licking my balls and a car hit me.
