    • RE: Nazi Germany VS The Soviet Union

Had Hitler not declared war on the U.S. Germany still could’ve won the war while fighting on two fronts against only England and Soviet Russia.

You have to remember that Rommel was on the verge of having total control of North Africa until the U.S. got involved. Had Rommel only the British to oppose him, he would’ve driven over the Suez, turned North into Turkey, and then connected with the Southern Armies on the Russian front perhaps even creating another Russian pocket while capturing vital oil fields in the spring of 1942. The next logical move for Rommel would’ve been to press Eastward and if not seize or destroy the Russian industry, cause enough of a hiccup in the supply lines to the Russian front that not enough ammunition, fuel, parts, or equipment would be available on the Russian front to stop a hard-pressed general advance against the Soviets.

One of the most fatal flaws on the Russian front was the destruction of the 6th Army at Stalingrad. In terms of manpower it was severe, but the magnitude of the effect on the morale of the German soldiers dwarfed the physical loss of Stalingrad and Field Marshall Von Paulus’ army.

Most incriminating to the Germans however, was the rampant behavior of rape, murder, and all-out thuggery of the SS divisions. Their absence would’ve greatly benefited the Germans with a fresh suply of willing peasants who will fight for the Germans against the Soviets and would be willing subjects after the Soviet Union was dissolved.

      @Imperious:

yea thats great! now he gets to pay millions and he will soon be out of a job. Thats a good eye for an eye style of justice.

That’s actually what the euphemism “An eye for an eye” actually means. It doesn’t mean the physical retribution of removing the offending attackers’ eye, but compensation to the victim for the loss of the eye.

'Kay, that was my 2 cents.

Actually, Islam is an alien religion to Iran and afaik most Iranians HATE the arabs for forcing islam on them.

Someone please disbar the man and exile him. We have no use for scum like this here in the states.

U.S. man suing over trousers aims to fund more cases By Andy Sullivan
Thu Jun 14, 10:43 AM ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The judge who sued his dry cleaning shop for $54 million over a lost pair of trousers said as the trial wrapped up on Wednesday that he would use any winnings he might get to encourage others to follow suit.

Roy L. Pearson, an administrative judge for the District of Columbia, said he only needed $2.5 million for himself to cover the emotional distress he suffered after Custom Cleaners misplaced a pair of pants he brought in for alteration.

The remainder, he said, would be used “as an incentive for other attorneys in private practice to take on these kinds of cases.”

District of Columbia Judge Judith Bartnoff said she would issue a written decision within a week in the case.

Pearson’s lawsuit has drawn international ridicule. It also drew plenty of chuckles from spectators who crowded into the stuffy municipal courtroom.

Even Bartnoff had a hard time keeping a straight face as Pearson, wearing a gray pinstripe suit and a stained lavender tie, wielded a 6-inch-thick (15-cm-thick) binder of laws and court decisions that he said bolstered his case.

Shop owner Soo Chung, an immigrant from        South Korea, was not so amused.

“Economically, emotionally, and health-wise as well, it’s been extremely hard for us,” Chung said through an interpreter as she broke down crying. It has cost tens of thousands of dollars to defend against the lawsuit, with a quarter of that covered by donations, a spokeswoman said.

Pearson claims a “satisfaction guaranteed” sign at the dry cleaning shop violates a consumer-protection law because he was unsatisfied with the response of Chung and her husband and son when they misplaced his pants in 2005.

The Chungs say they located the pants a few days later, but Pearson said they were not his.

The pants in question – gray, with cuffs – hung by the witness stand as the Chungs’ attorney questioned whether Pearson’s interpretation of the sign was reasonable.

“Does the sign read: ‘If you are not satisfied with our service, you the customer can ask for whatever you want, including $67 million, and you will receive it’?” attorney Chris Manning asked.

Pearson, who reduced an original demand for $67 million to $54 million last month, arrived at the figured based on fines accruing for the four years allowed under the statute of limitations and other costs, such as $15,000 to rent a car to use another dry cleaning shop.

Bartnoff seemed skeptical as well, poking holes in Pearson’s legal reasoning on many occasions.

“This is a very important statute to protect consumers of the District of Columbia. It’s also very important that statutes like this are not misused,” Bartnoff said.

Beware of the traffic, travel on the freeways about after 10 and no later than 2 and you should have an easy time getting around. But I have no idea how much worse traffic has gotten since I last visited Sandi.

    • RE: How A&A corresponds to WWII history

You could always set a standard amount for the units (total number of men throughout the war for each nation, divided among the respective pieces and averaged out to assign a static number of “man power” per piece).

Then just change the number of pieces on the board until they match “historical” numbers in terms of placement and troop strength for Spring of 1942.

As for finances, perhaps even the cost of pieces could be changed.

But I’m just throwing out ideas here and if I have the time maybe I can get around to doing a project like this (shouldn’t take more than a couple of hours to figure a(n) “manpower” per nation, but several more hours to assign pieces to the board to reflect those numbers accurately).

    • RE: How A&A corresponds to WWII history

Probably the only way to get a truly accurate count between R/L and A&AR (or A&A if you prefer) is to have a seperate count for each power and average it out.

If you wanted to make the counts accurate to R/L you’d have to alter the unit numbers and placement to make it true to life and add “Realism” rules. Eg. Aircraft, Armor, Inf, and Art. can only move one space during a turn (to account for the vast stretches of land on the map). And it’d go without saying that you’d need a minimum number of infantry pieces per territory to act as a “garrison” or suffer a penalty of income from that territory. This would add a whole new aspect of logistics to the game.

And you’d have to have seperate “Theatre Rules” for the Pacific and for the European theatres such as the chanelkampf (Channel Battles) during the battle of Britain and to account for the limited flight distance of German aircraft compared to the British advantage of being over home-ground (maybe only 1 round of German fighters over England, with 2 rounds for all powers’ bombers? or a reduced German aircraft attack while over England?).

You’d also have to take into account that the Japanese aircraft could travel much farther (and were cheaper to produce) than American aircraft, but they were’nt as hard-hitting nor hardy as U.S. naval/land based aircraft.

In short, you’d have to literally re-write the movement, engagement, income, and territory capture rules from the ground up and work with the map that’s already in place. Additionally, you’d also have to figure out the “theatre rules” according to the specific theatre (especially in regards to Japan as they depended almost solely on airpower and infantry for keeping their territory, with their navy to back it up).

This actually sounds like a fun project to do (especially since I suck at playing A&A and I have the spare time I could devote to it).

These numbers don’t exactly add up now do they?

But I suppose I’m more of a direct mix of ISTP and ISTJ (or rather I swing between the two) than confined to one or the other.

    • Icons in Abattlemap

      Informative post

Now that I’m not as busy with school and I’m moving back into playing A&A again, I found that I had to re-install Abattlemap again.

As usual I hated the tiny and near indistinguishable icons, so I decided to experiment a bit with teh root files and lo and behold, they’ve improved!!

      How to do:

Go into your X:Program files/Abattlemap/AAR.gim folder

Remove the file called “tool pieces” with the words bitmap and a paintbrush ontop of the .jpeg. to your desktop. Now open Abattlemap for the AAR map to see if the change worked. If it did this’ll make the icons more easily identifiable and larger in AAR. It is safe to delete the bitmap if you desire to do so.

I haven’t tried this method on any of the other bitmap files but I see no reason why it wouldn’t work.

-I don’t need to see every guys ass when he walks by.

-Trying to have a professional and orderly talk to a girl with a low-cut shirt and is making passes at me is very difficult, not to mention very uncomfortable.

-It simplifies the dress code and makes it easier to enforce

-Just about kills/drsatically reduces the fashion competition among the peer groups while in school (and keeps the wallet good and fat).

That’s about it, and no I don’t have kids.
