    • RE: Ship IPC values

Cruisers could do with a cost of 11, really.

    • RE: What do we want in AAE40 that we didn't get in AAP40?

Casualties done by fighters should be taken by other aircraft first, instead of ground units. After air superiority is established, strafing may commence.

    • RE: Gibraltar scramble

In the war they only ran 20 or 30 planes out of Malta, so I think 1 fig and 1 tac would be fine for that, with 2 INF for support. With France to deal with, and probably 1 transport, it won’t be viable to take out I1. That way, UK can land planes from Egypt and other places if they so choose.

I think the french inf should be like the Italian ones. Unarmed, and flipping you off.

    • RE: Manchuria in the Global game

The wall keeping China out of Russia should also stop Japan. As for Manchuria, Japan should be able to hit it but Rus should get a ton of inf and an AA gun. An AA gun would go far to keep Japan out of Rus without giving Rus more offensive power.

    • RE: France and what should be done about it.

The French with British help didn’t last any longer than Poland. And Poland was being double-smashed.

    • RE: American split income?

Consider the industry changes. 10 per major factory. Thus, most reasonable buys would have to be split. Consider 2 transports, 2 inf 2 art, and a loaded carrier on east coast. That’s 64 IPCs and uses 9 of your 10 production. Hell, throw in a DD for escort. That’s 72. That leaves at least 30ish in pacific theater. The only way to mass one theater would be massing bombers, and I don’t see that as being effective enough in one theater, ignoring the other to top a more practical buy split with at least 30 on either side.

    • RE: Soviet 1942 strategy.

I never have anything for China, but that’s probably just greed.

I go 2 INF 2 ART 2 tanks, and hit:
Belorussia: 3 inf and fighter from Karelia, 3 inf and tank from archangel, art from russia
East Ukraine: 3 inf, 2 tanks and bomber from Russia, 3 inf and tank from Caucasus

Move up to reinforce Caucasus, take AA guns from Karelia and Russia to Belorussia and East Ukraine for support. Place in Caucasus and land fighter there to make it tough to take.

This strategy leaves the Germans able to take Karelia but nothing else (unless the dice Gods hate me).

    • RE: War Bonds House Rule

Well, the reason why I would like it a little bit better than decent is so that tech tree 1 is actually worth using. It takes a lot to convince people away from heavy bombers, jet fighters and LRA.

    • War Bonds House Rule

With my friends we all agreed that War Bonds would be a great tech, if it were not so weak. With an average of +3.5IPC/turn and a cost of 10 to have it around turn 2, it would not pay off until round 5. Additionally, 10 IPC first turn is as strong as 20 or 30 fifth turn because it has so much more influence on the momentum of the game. Thus, we have upped it from 1d6 to 2d6. It has been acquired in two of our games and in both was handy enough to be worthwhile but not a gamebreaker like heavy bombers or LRA. Any other opinions on this edit?

    • RE: Balance

From my experience, '42 is much more balanced than '41.Allies are, I think, at a slight disadvantage. However, one Chinaman and maybe 3 IPCs for anywhere else makes it all work out.

Actually, in AA50 I tend to split the resources with Britain evenly between Europe and the colonies.

    • RE: Pacific 1940 review copy has arrived

The US did have a substantial fleet, but seeing as how:

      1. The pearl harbor jazz won’t happen again, one would think, so the Japanese won’t have that advantage
      2. They have time to build a bit more with a limited income before they join the war
      3. Once they join they will have a LOT of cash to make more

I think it should be fine.

    • RE: How is 1940 Pacific going to BALANCE with 1940 Europe?

Once the Japanese have all of China and India and Australia, and the Germans and Italians can attack the US, the game is over anyway. Conquering the US is feasible, but it won’t be that deciding factor that turns the tide. The axis will have already gotten the permanent upper hand.

    • RE: How is 1940 Pacific going to BALANCE with 1940 Europe?

Consider that, globally, Japan will never have to conquer the US. You act as if that should be achievable. Japan, conquering the US. That would be, and should be, impossible unless the US messes up big time. Japan’s goal with the US is to keep him bottled up and waste resources that should be going to Europe so Germany can push into Russia.

    • RE: Europe

For the record, the censorship is only in Germany from a legal point of view. I guess WOTC want not put the swastika just to ensure they can sell the game in Germany

You know, it’s a matter of extremes. In Germany they take one extreme and here in Spain we have the oppositte (we still have Franco’s simbols in some public places and there is still a horse statue of Franco, in Melilla if I remember right). If I could choose, I’d prefer german extreme in this case, but in fact i’d choose a balanced approach (fascist simbols forbidden in public places but still usable in private uses like the matter we are talking. Exaltation of fascism must be forbidden, of course

More data about fascism in Spain: last summer (I mean July, 2009), I was on holidays in Malaga, Spain, and suddenly I saw two cars filled with Falange’s guys (Falange was the fascist party legal in our dictatorship). They were celebrating the start of Spanish Civil War  :x , but the worst is that they had a official policial escort to protect them  :-P It was scary, but luckily the people didn’t supported them. At least, fascists are a very marginal group nowadays in Spain, but still is annoying that police protected them: such class of manifestations should be forbidden because go against democratic values  :|
So it’s not a minor issue in fact

Wouldn’t silencing fascists also be going against democratic values?

They should not start after Dunkirk. I mean, what’s the point of adding France if they’re just going to make it fall first turn without a chance? Should we not start at the beginning?
