    • RE: India Complex for UK - usually a bad idea?

It sounds like the taking back and forth of India by the UK is actually a really great strategy to halt the Japanese spamming of tanks, and will hold off their ability to really open an effective new front against the USSR. Because they never get to establish a full turn with the IC.

And if you take the 60-40 spending ratio for the US which @DoManMacgee was mentioning, and buy one bomber a turn to send to UK and SBR Germany every turn…I don’t see how the Axis can win.

…and if Japan then gives up on India realizing how much money is has wasted, US can flip the ratio and spend more on the Atlantic to start landing forces in western europe or add even more bombers and just go after Italy.

So I guess the real question is what can the Axis do against this? Roll for a Radar Tech and hope for the best with the Can Openers into the USSR?

    • India Complex for UK - usually a bad idea?

I was thinking about ways to slow Japan so that Japan doesn’t sneak up the back door on Russia late game, and was thinking about a first turn UK purchase of a Complex to push east on Japan or just keep them distracted enough to halt their growth.

On turn one I would fly over the Egypt fighter and move the tank into Persia, plus the 2 INF in Trans-Jordan. Than, use the transport in SZ35 to pick up 1 INF + 1 ART and reinforce India some more. Basically, giving up Africa for a short period to America can come in to take back Africa mid to late game. I’d supply as much as I could to India, while still putting pressure on Germany with either a Polar Express and/or France or NW Europe invasion.

Any strong opinions on this strategy?

Was thinking that America’s prime objective would be to totally slam Germany and Italy with Bombers and do max damage while slowly building for the take back of Africa and eventually western Europe. America and UK would have to supply a few fighters throughout the game to protect Moscow as well…

    • RE: Oil Rules for A&A Anniversary?

Could you send me your oil maps?

I also kind of feel like Oil should impact the cost or quantity of units like tanks, naval units and air units rather than given an IPC boost…

    • RE: Oil Rules for A&A Anniversary?

Well the G40 Oil rules do have it where you get 1 IPC boost for the select territories that have oil and that ave an oil derrick erected. Wonder if applying that rule to AA50 would break it…

Oil nations for G40 are according to the House Rule are:
      -All Dutch Islands
      -Columbia, Venezuela, Bolivia
      -Central US
      -Scotland
      -Western Canada, Alaska
      -Alexandria, Cairo, Tobruk, Trans-Jordon
      -Union of South Africa
      -Romania
      -Iraq
      -Persia
      -Caucasus, Ukraine
      -West India, Burma

    • Oil Rules for A&A Anniversary?

We are thinking of spicing up our game a little bit by implementing Oil in some way to Anniversary. Does anyone have a house rule out there for AA50 that doesn’t break the game too much?

I’ve seen rules for Global 40 and the Global War series, but none so far for AA50…

    • RE: [Global 1940] Third Faction Idea for Russia/Communist China

GW36’s complexity is precisely why I brought this question up as it pertains to G40 because it is too complex to get enough people to approach it. Perhaps incorporating Communist-Friendly neutrals, or create a '36 setup for the G40 board which pulls in some of the diplomatic elements from GW36?

    • RE: [Global 1940] Third Faction Idea for Russia/Communist China

@CWO-Marc I like this idea of making Soviet Communism operate like a tech roll.

I wonder if a Soviet–Axis agreement (like done against Poland) could be expanded against neutrals and pro-allied neutrals as well…thereby still keeping the Soviets neutral against the main powers, but becoming a more Axis-friendly power who then would not be able to turn on the Axis late game.

Might be a facinating setup for a post-Axis game where the only remaining powers are the Soviets and the neutrals they have conquered, versus the remaning Allies…

    • RE: [Global 1940] Third Faction Idea for Russia/Communist China

Very interesting considerations. However, in terms of applying this to a Global 1940 game, how do you think a truly neutral Soviet Union & Communist China would be able to operate? Would the primary early game objective be to repel Imperial Japan from China and commence with the Chinese Civil War?

Trying to get an idea of what their expansionary goals would be if they continued to remain neutral while the Axis and the Allies duke it out…

    • [Global 1940] Third Faction Idea for Russia/Communist China

I wanted to know if there was a House Rule option out there, or what everyone’s thoughts were on having Russia and Communist China (or just China) as the Comintern like in the Global War 1936 & 1939 games.

So essentially, there would be the option of having 3 players on their own “teams” instead of just the 2, the Axis and Allies…

Sometimes if we have 3 players, we sometimes see having a teammate as somewhat of a disadvantage because of disagreements in coordinated efforts, so having the option of a Comintern third faction is a fascinating one…

@MooseCow Thanks for replying. I’d love to get a game together soon then. I have a small group of 2-3, so maybe we can schedule a game.

How do you like Anniversary Edition? We usually play that, but I am trying to get my group to venture into Global 40…

    • RE: Operation Sea Lion - Is it possible for 1941?

Russia picked its battles, knocking off small garrisons in Beloroussa and Eastern Ukraine which prevented him blitzing thru more tanks to take out Moscow.

He ended up making big attacks on Moscow twice, but he failed because he didn’t reinforce his front well enough even with all that money that came with taking London on G1. By the time he had enough to make a stronger attack on Moscow, UK and US were already doing the Polar Express and had taken France. Japan had weak rolls in China and not enough ground forces to threaten Moscow as well.

In addition, 5 US fighters landed in Moscow by that time.

      Axis were done for.
