RE: Iraq, againposted in General Discussion
@F_alk:
…your political (GWB election) and diplomatic (Iraq conflict) problems are worse :)
Let’s settle the political carp once and for all! You settle your EU’s political problems and we’ll settle our US problems. I don’t understand France nor Germany’s government … and you (, 95% of US citizens and 99.9999999% of the rest of the world) do not understand the US Electoral College.
As for the diplomatic …
Hussein had 12 years to comply, disarm, cooperate and be diplomatic. Saddam had 12 years to kill Kurds (5000 in one village), Muslims, women and children(1.5 million wasn’t it?) The UN (and US) talked with the Iraqi sham front of a government (not Hussein, which is the real Iraqi government), passed resolutions, embargoed, inspected and attempted diplomacy for 12 years. How many more years will you wait? How many more UN resolutions will you pass? Enough diplomacy!@F_alk:
…we can be scared by your behavior.
This from a nation where people deface the graves of those who died to help free a nation? No, nations. NO, a continent! This from a region of the world where Le Pen, a neo-fascist, got 20%(?) of the vote?(We would not deprive Le Pen, Ted Kennedy, David Duke or Hillary Clinton of their right to speak, but we fear the rise of radicals.) This from a nation where marchers (as seen on TV) waved placards, this weekend, saying, “Vive Chirac! Stop the Jews!”? (Those Evil Zionist Masters!) Chirac later responded by suggesting that the people should be careful who they choose as enemies. I suggest Chirac be careful who he and his government choose as friends.
Currently, the Operation Iraqi Freedom Coalition Members see France as having made some poor choices in friends who oppose overturning Hussein’s regime…
1)China and Syria (see #3 below, add Sryria there, too) - the nuclear-chemical pipeline to Iraq, set up by France (and denied by Chirac), but the proof stands,
2)Russia - which supplied two generals to advise the Iraqi military on methods to oppose the Coalition forces. These generals left Iraq less than three weeks before Operation Iraqi Freedom commenced,
3)Jordan, Sudan and Iran - which allowed fundamentalist Muslims to gather and traverse to Iraq for Jihad (passports found on live prisoners and dead bodies of Arab attackers by US forces), and
4)Iraq - Which it now appears has WMD. Various US forces have uncovered mustard gas dumped in the Tigris River, 12 barrels of nerve gas south of Baghdad, 20 loaded and ready-to-fire rockets with mustard gas east of Baghdad(npr.org and reuters.com).
@F_alk:How can we trust someone who acts untrustworthy, who acts after his own interests only, not joining or following larger agreements?…
Untrustworthy? This from a country with a man,no, a chancellor, Schroeder, who prostituted himself to voters, turning against the US to win his election. Then he has the Audacity to say “everything’s okay … we’re really friends.” Then he pulls a Chirac again!
Untrustworthy? This from a country with a man, no, a president, Chirac, who has twenty-nine years of business/political ties with Saddam Hussein’s regime. Having supplied nuclear aid twice in an unstable region of the world for France’s economic benifit. Having supplied military aid during the 12 year embargo (sound familiar?)
His own interests? Oil? This war would lower the price of oil as it did after the Persian Gulf War, part I.
His own interests? Power? Some in the US government are talking impeachment.
His own interests? … to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States. His first responsibility is to protect the US. The WTC was attacked by terrorists. Citizens from more than 50 countries died. President GW Bush declared war on terrorists and terrorism. He has proof that Iraq supports terrorism. The US Congress and 77% of the citizens approve.[Note: Voters lean 40% Republican, 40% Democrat and 20% Independant. With 77% that would be, worst case, 40% Rep., 20% Ind. and 17% Democrats support GWB’s decision.] US safetym and sovereignty come first. If we agree with the UN it’s a bonus. NO BONUS today.
Not joining or following larger agreeements? …
If the rest of Europe decided to make Germany a nuclear waste dump would all Germans agree?
Once upon a time most countries agreed not to attack Germany. What if they had stuck to it?Fundamentalist Muslim terrorists have chosen the US as the Great Satan.
Capitalist economies do not function well with the threat of terrorism. If the US falls, which it might if it does not defend itself, then the rest of the world will follow. Not that the US is great alone, but much of the rest of the world are sheep(as I’m sure the US citizens are at times.)
Look at the progress being made in Africa by fundamentalist Islam. They control or cower(murder, massacre, slavery and starvation) most of north Africa.
Then there are the struggles in Indonesia, Pakistan, India and China(yes, even China has Islamic troubles.)
The fundamentalists in Sudan, Jordan, Syria and Iraq already fear what will happen to their countries. That is why some come to fight the US/coalition forces in Iraq.
Even in France and Germany there are problems. Does not Germany have 8,000,000 Muslims? Aren’t many of these voters(1-2 million[?] or more concentrated in some major cities.) Estimates put the # of fundamentalists in Germany at 800,000. France has about 6,000,000 Muslims. Many of them voters and about 500,000 or so fundamentalists. Some Europeans fear what they see; others pay it no mind.
The politicians seem to be playing it safe … doing almost nothing. Yet they have shared evidence of terrorist cells and disrupted plots of sabotage. (I never want concentration camps nor the secret police here nor in Europe, but I do want friends and allies who remember history.)Even the US saw far enough ahead to design, build and drop Little Boy and Fat Man. By killing and wounding hundreds of thousands the US saved millions of Japanese and Americans. However, it left a terrible stuggle in the minds of many Americans. Bush may have to bear the burden of taking the next step in military defense … the preemptive attack for a truly just cause, not for false reasons as has often been done in the past.
Eastern European countries, fresh from the constraints of a different terror, have joined the coalition. They offer what little they have, but some of it is invaluable. Experience with Russian munitions and booby traps, as well as knowledge of torture chambers that few westerners have ever seen (or survived.)
The conservative and reformed Mulahs must step forward to fight for the hearts, lives and souls (for those of us who believe in the soul) of all Muslims. They must show a new path … a Peace Jihad.
What will France and Germany bring, besides diplomacy, to this monumental struggle that is before us all?I am amazed that I put so much in this post, since I know , F_alk, that you will not accept the facts above. In addition, you will, as in the past, imply that I am a fascist.
“Standing there you are my friend. Take another step and you are my dead friend.”
- English translation of Arabic spoken by US forces on contact with Arabs in Iraq (2003).

RE: Democrats maneuvering for '04 or '08 Presidential Bidposted in General Discussion
Will post this here as the subject will most likely help run the campaign of the Democratic contender.
Donna Brazile, who helped with the Clinton Campaign
and ran the whole Algore Campaign, …
Not a word was spoken by this woman about the Persian Gulf War until …
A U.S. Army Vehicle Maintenance Specialist( please, read as black woman trooper) is taken hostage by the Iraqi military and shown on Iraqi TV(then broadcast for the world to see … scared out of her gourd.)
Donna didn’t like this. So Donna Brazile came out in favour of the war a couple of days after the film footage was broadcast to America.
It was so big of her to put her politics aside and support the Bush Administration’s efforts.

US Representative Charles Rangel, shouldn’t we help and support our men and women on the front lines protecting innocent Americans form another September 11, 2001?Rev. Al Sharpton, what do you think we should do?
US Sen. Ted Kennedy, Tom Daschle, Hillary Clinton and others, what do you have to say? What? You remain silent and allow retired Generals to criticize and Clinton Administration State Dept. officials who are still in the Bush Administration to leak opposing viewpoints(their own!) There’s honor for you.
Suport the Troops!

Liberal Media Idiots and Their Biases(Conservatives, too)posted in General Discussion
I’m not sayin’ they’re all liberals(87% are according to two polls taken.)
They’re not all this bad, but…
A few examples…Peter Arnett was seen by some as sympathetic to the Iraqi regime in both this war and the 1991 Gulf War, when he reported from Baghdad for CNN.
(A major portion of Arnett’s interview on Iraqi TV)
ARNETT: "…it is clear that within the United States there is growing challenge to President Bush about the conduct of the war and also opposition to the war. So our reports about civilian casualties here, about the resistance of the Iraqi forces, are going back to the United States. It helps those who oppose the war when you challenge the policy to develop their arguments…"…I think American policy and strategy is the weakest when it comes to the Iraqi people. The U.S. administration is concerned with the possibility of killing civilians, because the international community is very concerned about the Iraqi people. President Bush says he is concerned about the Iraqi people, but if Iraqi people are dying in numbers, then American policy will be challenged very strongly…
"…For that reason, the Pentagon keeps saying that the civilian casualties, particularly in Baghdad in the last three or four days, at the market places – the Pentagon says – well they are Iraqi missiles that land amongst the people. They keep saying that, but of course the Iraqi government says they are clearly cruise missiles that hit the population…
"…the American war planners misjudged the determination of the Iraqi forces…
“…That is why now America is re-appraising the battlefield, delaying the war, maybe a week, and re-writing the war plan. The first war plan has failed because of Iraqi resistance now they are trying to write another war plan.”
***After being fired by National Geographic, MSNBC and NBC Arnett was hired immediately by Britain’s Daily Mirror, a tabloid against the war. “I report the truth of what is happening here in Baghdad and will not apologize for it,” he said in his first dispatch.
Regarding Geraldo Rivera, yes, FOXNews does have liberals …
Rivera was wrong to reveal tactical information about the 101st Airborne Division. He drew a map in the dirt showing where the unit was going. U.S. military officials were right to demand that he be withdrawn.Rivera was a solid if flamboyant reporter in his early years but later became an embarrassment. While reporting for Fox from Afghanistan, he claimed to be standing on “hallowed ground” where American soldiers had been killed by friendly fire. It turned out that was not true.
When conservative reporter Michael Kelly died, in an acccident in Iraq, I saw short blurbs on the local and network news regarding his death. NBC referred to him as “caustic.” Nothing personal was said.
When liberal reporter David Bloom died, of a pulmonary embolism in Iraq, He was mentioned once on the local news and three times on the NBC network news. The worst thing they said about him was that he was a “father of three girls.” Ther Saturday morning news crew and Tom Brokaw all gushed over the loss.
–------------------------------------------Sorry, but I had to get this off my brain(to give it an outlet.)
I couldn’t find the forum where liberal and conservative news was discussed. I know it was off the original topic there. -

RE: Iraq, againposted in General Discussion
As for choice of governmental systems … I’d say Japan and Germany(though Germany still has political/diplomatic problems) worked out fairly well, so let’s see what comes.
Looky, looky who wants to come back and play  ! Why it’s France and Germany. Left out of the game and afraid their free-agent(sports analogy)status will put their salaries on the downspin.
For the post-Gulf War world what will the US do? Maybe …

RE: Russia cant attack first roundposted in Axis & Allies Classic
Sun,
Yes, it is highly recommended to help balance the game. It also makes the game more realistic, with the USSR defending(USSR’s key role is DEFENSE, buy all inf[infantry]as a beginning or intermediate player) rather than giving the Allies the chance to cripple the Axis attack before the game gets rolling. Stack/build most units in Karelia and Yakut leaving 1 inf in SFE (SovFar East) and Caucuses to stop walk ins. Crush any small force that takes Caucuses, but retreat each turn Japan advances with a force that can take your USSR east forces on the next Japanese turn. Always try to move 1 inf unit east each turn(maybe more later, if the UK and US are reinforcing Kar(karelia)and threating in Africa and W Europe) to reinforce/strengthen against Japan. This is a standard variation of Axis & Allies commonly known as Russia Restricted (RR is the common abbreviation.)
The “1 ftr(fighter) to USSR each turn” ploy is a good way to start reinforcing the USSR. Some Allies even send 2 ftrs on UK1(United Kingdom turn 1.) If UK builds another ftr(or some Royal Navy units) the German Luftwaffe(air force) and Kriegsmarine(navy) are stopped from moving on the UK. If you worry about a Germany hitting the UK fleet(again?) in the UK sz(sea zone), you can save your unspent IPCs(having spent 12 for a ftr, if that is what you did)and spend them with the IPCs you get at the end of UK1, on UK2. This may total about 40 IPCs … a lot with which to work.
Meant to just write a couple of lines, but it became a short story.
Others may submit an encyclopedia of their own shortly. Stay tuned.Remember, a plan rarely survives contact
with the enemy. - Some ol’ ded Genrul :wink:So if’n a plan don’t work, tweak it!
It’s a game an’ we gets to try agin’. :) -
RE: Why don't Canadians goose step to the Yanky Doodle tune?posted in General Discussion
Yeah, dump tarriffs.
If an industry needs tarriffs to survive it needs to be restructured.I just read that Canada’s Governor General(who’s that as all I here about is the PM and minor American-insulting ministers? :) ) Selects the Senat(or Senate) in Canada. I would think that this may help the PM get a lot of his policies passed into law.
Did I also read recently that the PM will withdraw a bill if it looks like it would not pass as this would trigger a no confidence call for election of a new PM? -
RE: Para rule variation???posted in House Rules
LG,
Great idea!
Plus, research to back it up.
Excellent work!Haven’t used the Para vari :) much, but will check your research.
If it proves out, as I believe it will, I will push for this to be instituted in future games involving the Para vari. -

@F_alk:
It has been proven … a fake, and that the weapn inspectors were surprised that the secret services of the US and the UK could fall for these rather blatant fakes.
Hmm … seems like a good peace of propaganda to me. I repeat … Reads like you’ve dismissed other evidence because you read or heard something(no proof.) Were you there?
You trust your sources and I’ll trust mine.
@F_alk:Choice on what? Do you notice that you say “let them be free, but not that free?”
… and you want them to choose what? A male dominated, religious fundamentalist theocracy maybe? You want to leave the region in the 14th century?
If so, I’m glad it’s not up to you.
I believe the Iraqi people and we’ll work toward something like the government of Turkey. -
Battle of the E.U.'s Future …posted in General Discussion
I read an article online that shows a struggle ahead …

After reading the article, I question why one leader/group must see the future based on an “EU v. the US” scenario.

RE: India ICposted in Axis & Allies Classic
My experience and standard logistics show that an Ind IC, with the right moves(see above :) ), will help Allies hold Ind til J6-7 v. a quality opponent … J9-10 v. a mediocre opponent. Can you take Germany in this time frame?
If Germany is not building up in E Eur(with 1-3 inf in Ukraine),
then you might consider moving the Rus arm +1 inf or to Nov, and
pull back the SFE arm to stack with inf in Yak or
pull back the SFE arm to stack with inf in Nov. with 1 inf +1 arm.Do not move 3 arm to Nov. as it prevents you from keeping pressure on Germany(this move weakens Kar too much), attacking in in E Eur and/or F/N. Remember, three Allies(working together)putting the squeeze on Germany is the quickest way to victory … Unless you have an idiot or lucky dog for an opponent. :)
But don’t let me stop you from trying something different  .

+ a Piece(1G & 1J),Move a Piece(1G,1J, & 1or2 Ally)posted in House Rules
If two(2) Allied pieces are moved they must be of different origins(USSR, UK and US.)
Limits are … no ICs and no more than 1 Bmr per side(Axis & Ally), not country.Met a guy the other day who plays with this rule. He said it makes the game more flexible, like bidding, but more flex for more players(2 to 5.)
His usual group plays RR, SS, and 1 hit BB(otherwise the extra pieces are too often BBs.)
–------------------------------------------
I think I’ll try to talk my local opponents into trying this one.
With all the variations we keep trying Hillary will probably be
president by the time we try this one. :P -
RE: UK loses Africa.posted in Axis & Allies Classic
In general, you are screwed :P !
–-----------------------------------
The problem is that the UK is in too many parts and broken up too easily by opponents. If you build in UK they devour everything elseTry building an IC(Industrial Complex) in UoSA(Union of South Africa.)
If this does not help after about three games ask your opponents if you can reduce India’s IPC value to two(2) and increase UoSA’s IPC value to three(3.) Otherwise, pardner, you’ve got problems. An ally would come in handy!
You could try rotating powers(not always be UK.)
Note: Do not try the same in AES(Anglo-Egyptian Sudan) unless Germany or USSR is an ally.
