I want to give a shout out to Historical Board Gaming. I’ve bought multiple times from him (last order included 100+ pieces) and he’s got everything. It’s pretty legit. And shipping was fast too. There’s my plug from a happy customer :-)

RE: Alpha +2 or +3 for A&A E40posted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
Forgive me if it’s been stated but I wanted some quick clarification. Are the Alpha 3 rules supposed to supplement what’s been stated in Alpha 2 or are they their own rule set? In other words, should I be referencing both Alpha 2 AND 3 when playing? I know Krieg mentioned that these are for global, but I really prefer Alpha 3’s rules over the OOB. Thank you.
EDIT: I also noticed that the US no longer has the NO of +30 IPCs in wartime. Is this a mistake?

RE: How to defend british?posted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
Welcome FlowerG.
I agree, out of box rules allow too easy of a sealion. We staged a game where UK built only infantry and Germany focused solely on sealion. Germany still took London with no problem. We’ll be playing with Alpha rules from now on.

RE: Better axis strategyposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
I’m no veteran, but from my experience you can’t really focus on Sealion AND the Soviets. Sealion OOB is really quite easy but then you’ve neglected the Soviets and turning your attention to that front while holding London can be difficult. People have mentioned G4 attack on Soviets and had success but I’ve found with my own games that it’s difficult for me to take them out after waiting so long. So that’s my suggestion, do one or the other, not both

RE: Alpha +2 or +3 for A&A E40posted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
So I’ve been playing more AAE40 and have come to realize that Sea Lion is way too easy, as was mentioned by Gargantua. UK built all infantry turns 1 & 2 but by G3 Germany had 6 transports, 6 inf/art, 1 strat bomber, 4 tact bombers, 4 fighters. They took it no problem and the US (preparing for Germany to do sealion) still could not take it back effectively within 2 turns at LEAST.
So I looked up the Alpha 3 rules and correct me if I’m wrong but the new AA rule allows you to roll 3 dice for each AA gun at the start of the battle now? And you are allowed to have multiple “useable” AA guns on the same territory? Thank you

RE: IC in Egyptposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
Cairo is probably a lost cause if Germany is going Sea Lion, but it doesn’t always do that. If you wait to build the minor on UK2 you can more easily prevent Sea Lion (because at that point you’ll probably know if Germany is going to attempt it) and with it there it’s a lot harder for Italy to take it.
If you wait until UK2 to build a minor IC in Cairo then you’ve just bought a minor IC for Italy. Every game I’ve played (minus one VERY lucky one) Italy took Cairo either turn one or turn two. I think Italy would have to really not focus on Cairo to make UK1 minor IC a viable option

RE: IC in Egyptposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
I was going to start a new topic but found this. I’m halfway through a game and the UK built a minor IC on turn 1. It turned out to be a good decision because Italy has been taken out of the Africa picture but it was a very risky decision in my opinion. Here’s what went down:
UK1 - minor IC, rest was infantry in London.
IT1 - advanced on Alexandria and amassed troops on the border of Cairo (from troops next door). Then they used their 2 cruisers, 1 battleship bombarded Cairo with the two transports carrying 2inf, 1art, 1 tank, 1 fighter and almost took out Cairo (1 UK tank was left).I’m not sure as the UK I would risk that again. Is Cairo a lost cause for the UK?

2 free units in Novosibirskposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
Question: If Moscow is still in Soviet hands and able to produce units but Axis took over Novosibirsk, are you still able to to place the 2 free units there during the mobilize units phase? If so, how would combat happen? I’m assuming during Germany’s conduct combat phase? Thank you!

RE: Question about declaring Warposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
The US only enters the war at the “end” of its third turn (if no war is declared beforehand by Germany/Italy). Therefore you’ll have the 65 IPCs on the beginning of your 4th turn to purchase units

RE: Bob_A_Mickelson's AAE40 National Production/National Objective & Setup Chartsposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
I have to say, great job! Thank you for these. What should I print them out on? I have a fairly decent printer but it wasn’t as vibrant as I wanted. I printed on normal paper to stick to thick card stock. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

RE: Question about declaring Warposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
I’m using OOB rules for Europe 1940. Can you confirm that it’s the same? And I think it’s 4th turn for soviets, which would mean they can take action on 5th turn??

Question about declaring Warposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
I could not find a topic that discussed this, please forgive me if there is already one.
The rule book states that the US enters the war on the “collect income” phase of it’s third turn.
Does this mean that I (as the US player) can’t take any aggressive acts on my third round turn (because the collect income phase is at the end of the turn)?
If so, I would assume this applies for the Soviet Union as well? Thank you!
