      Excellent news! If Hasbro isn’t going to provide a software version of their games I’m happy someone else is giving us an alternative.

      @Upside-down_Turtle:

      Yeah, seriously.  That is realy amazing detail.  Beautiful, in fact.  Can’t wait for the Jap Art.  The AA50 version looks like a Civil War gattling gun.  Pathetic WOTC sculpts.  Bravo, FMG.  Bravo.

      Pathetic? Come now. For the most part the WOTC sculpts faithfully reproduce the real units. The AA50 mold looks like a Fiat-Ansaldo M13/40 medium tank to me and not a “Civil War gatling gun”.  :?

      Anyway… If this sample is any indication, it’s clear that FMG is going above and beyond the call of duty on this project.

      I’m very impressed by the level of detail. The smallest details appear to be pushing the .2mm barrier.

      As soon as the novelty of the color footage wore off I didn’t find it especially interesting.

      @Holden:

      Ah, I see where the problem lies. I was using measurements from the original generic A&A bomber piece (which is 38mm in width).

      And yes, I was aware that the pieces are all different scales. I assume that you’d want the transport plane to scale up against the bombers.

      Regardless, my final conclusion that 1/700 scale is fairly close is still valid and correct.

      I’m afraid your attempt to embarrass and discredit me has failed :-).

      I neither tried to embarrass nor discredit you. I was just pointing out the error you made. Don’t be so touchy. We all make mistakes.

      1/700 scale is the perfect scale for bombers and transport planes.

      @Holden:

      1/700 gives the junkers Ju 52 a 1.6 inch wingspan. Slightly larger than the standard Axis & Allies airplane scale (the A&A bomber has a wingspan of 1.5 inches).

      If you assume the A&A bomber is a B-17, then the miniature scale is:

      Real life B17 wingspan = 103 ft 9 in = 1245 in
      A&A plastic bomber piece wingspan = 1.5 in
      1245 in / 1.5 in = 830

      Therefore, the A&A aircraft scale is 1/830.

      1/700 is fairly close.

      The measurements you made are incorrect. Therefore, so are your calculations.

      B17 wingspan = 31.62m
      A&A B17 wingspan = 47mm
      31.62/.047 = 672

      A&A B17 aircraft scale is 1/672

      Furthermore, the scales on the A&A pieces are inconsistent. They vary from piece to piece.

      @rockrobinoff:

      @hakan:

      Me and my friend have played lots of games now, but we never manage to win as Axis.

      How do your favourite openings look like G1, G2, G3 and J1, J2, J3? What is your grand strategy?

      something must be very wrong, as axis is at least the easier side to play if not objectively advantaged.

      sink the british navy, as much of it as you possibly can. SZ12 and SZ2 and SZ 6 are good targets. never mind about egypt or karelia on rd 1. you should be collecting 45 ipcs end G1 - baltic states, east poland and ukraine.

      dont trade france. hold france. put the screws to russia for as long as you can. play to be in russia with japan in RD 6. be in india with japan on J2.

      Good advice against many players but that wouldn’t work against my Allied strategy.

      @jim010:

      Since they are offering a complete set of pieces that can replace the old ones, why would it matter if the new colour matches the old one?

      Right. I’m happy for this too. The German pieces will look much better in FMG combat dice grey rather than black. Don’t know why WOTC decided to change the Germans to begin with.

      @jim010:

      I would rather FMG gave us light green italians.  Regardless, I’ll pick them up … unless FMG will offer them in another colour down the raod.

      I like the FMG Italian color. The colors for each nation are perfect if you ask me. Wouldn’t change them one bit.

      For the Italian heavy tank I would’ve chosen the Carro Armato P 26/40. Other than that, excellent choices.

      Hey WOPR which Autodesk product are you using? And are you going to attend Autodesk University in Las Vegas this year?

      Actually, I’m using Wings 3D. No plans to attend Autodesk U.

      @Upside-down_Turtle:

      nice

      wish i had ur skillz

      Thanks. I consider my 3d modeling skills to be at the beginner level actually. Luckily, military hardware consists of pretty geometric shapes. Once you’ve learned how to use the 3d tools it’s essentially a lot of tracing. You import a schematic diagram of the vehicle showing the top, side & front view and then start tracing.  8-) It’s a lot of work and it can get pretty tedious but I’m getting better at it.

      @dinosaur:

      One thing I can see that this 3d printer offers is that you could have a box full of different bombers instead of all similar pieces.  Imagine if instead of five B-17s, you had a B17, B25, B27, B29, …

      That would be sweet.

      Yeah, you can use the differentiated units however you want. It makes things more fun.
