      @WOPR:

      @P@nther:

      Thank you for sharing, WOPR.

      When creating maps, are you aware that you can simply place sound-files into a directory “sounds” into the map-directory of any map.zip?
      (Where the “baseTiles”, “reliefTiles” and all the other map-related directories are.)

      This way there would be no need to touch the engine-installation directory.
      :-)

      Oh yeah? I couldn’t find much documentation on working with the sound properties. That would be ideal way to do it.

      I’ve edited the sound.properties file and combined my graphic and sound mods into a single map zip.

      The new and improved mod can be downloaded here:

      http://www.mediafire.com/file/jgv6m6b6qyzeq0o/world_war_ii_v3-master.zip

      Enjoy!

      Here’s the links to the mod files:

      Graphic Mod:
      https://www.mediafire.com/file/wgu6dhc34gi52b6/world_war_ii_v3-master.zip
      Link no longer works. See updated link below.

      To install, just overwrite the file ‘world_war_ii_v3-master.zip’ in your ‘downloadedMaps’ folder with this one.

      Sound Mod: (optional)
      https://www.mediafire.com/file/lgz5koe276p44a9/sounds.zip
      No longer necessary. See updated link below.

      To install, unzip ‘sounds.zip’ and replace the ‘assets/sounds’ folder with this one. Note: you should delete the existing sounds folder and replace it with the new folder. Do not just overwrite the existing folder.

      You should backup your ‘world_war_ii_v3-master.zip’ file and ‘sounds’ folder in case you want to revert.

      To continue my thought. Have the soldiers carrying flags using iconic images of the war.
      USA Marines on Mt Suribachi. U.S.S.R soldier planting flag in Berlin. Japan. Soldiers waving arms up in triumph around the rising sun. Germans. Soldier goosestepping with  banner.  Italy and Britain I will have to think about. France waving a white flag. Just kidding. What do you think FMG.

      If you’re really passionate about it GoSanchez, you might give it a go yourself. With Google Sketchup and Shapeways you can make your ideas come to life. It’s the future now, we can do cool stuff like this.

      Bismarck escorted by Graf Spee

      Badass ships. I’ll build them and I’ll be pissed when they quickly get sunk.  :-D

      @FieldMarshalGames:

      They made it just a bit to small.  I wanted it slightly larger as it was a HUGE monster of a tank in real life.

      Damn straight it was! That behemoth will be menacing on the game board.

      @knp7765:

      So the 2 tanks sculpts are Tiger I and Tiger II?  No Panzer III?  Aw shucks.

      Bravo FMG.

      @knp7765:

      I’m surprised you went with the Stuka and Me109 (since WOTC went with those models).

      I’m not surprised. I am extremely pleased however.

      @knp7765:

      Still, YOUR Me109 looks incredible.  The current ones will look like blank generic planes next to them.

      That’s why I’m not surprised.

      Usually to get what I want, I have to do things myself. In this case, FMG is making all the right moves for me. This is sweet!

      @knp7765:

      Is that a Deutshland class pocket battleship for the heavy cruiser piece?  Extremely cool.

      Yes, Admiral Graf Spee!

      @knp7765:

      It looks as though you stuck with the Graf Zepplin for the carrier and Bismarck for the battleship.  That’s good.

      That’s better than good!

      @knp7765:

      These look a lot nicer and more detailed than WOTC ships.  I was originally planning on getting the black Germans to supplement my current pieces, but now I am leaning toward getting the grey and simply replacing my WOTC pieces.  The FMG pieces will have so much more detail.

      Good to see some of you coming around already!

      @FieldMarshalGames:

      The FIRST Germany Units will be Grey

      I still think it would be cool if FMG came out with a Heavy Tank set for all nations after all the country sets are complete.

      Exactly. There is no reason why FMG should stop making models. They’re doing a phenomenal job at it.

      @lnmajor:

      Hey WOPR,
      If you choose not to use your WOTC pieces anymore thats fine, but many people on this forum, including myself will want to combine both sets for maximum capablities. if FMG doesnt offer GERMANY in black as an option, I would really have to reconsider if I want to purchese all these pieces to reconfigure my present game. Im kind of sick of spraypainting whole sets of pieces.

      The color debate has been settled so there’s no need for ifs. FMG has already decided to do Germany in black and gray.

      Just kind of in disbelief that some of you guys WANT to combine the pieces. It’s seems completely wrong to me.

    • RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion thread

      @knp7765:

      While I agree with you that they should stick with the Bismarck for the German battleship, I MUST disagree with you on the color choice.  I want the FMG German pieces to be black so I can use both them and the WOTC pieces.

      You should not do that.

      @knp7765:

      Yes, I realize the FMG pieces are higher quality but they are also planning on using different models from the WOTC pieces for more variety.

      If FMG is doing that’ it’s only because people on these boards have convinced them to do so. Which is sad because the WOTC pieces will stick out like a sore thumb. If you don’t care about the quality of the models on your game board, it’s curious why you’re buying the FMG pieces at all?

      In my not so humble opinion, the FMG pieces should not be viewed as an “expansion” but rather a replacement for the WOTC pieces.

      @knp7765:

      For example, they have already stated that the German armor #1 is going to be the Panzer III.  The second will probably be a Tiger I or a SPG and NOT the Panther. Therefore, if they are all black, I can use all three armor types.

      I said Panther just for arguments sake. I’ll be happy if the Germans get the Panzer III and Tiger I but not so that I can use the WOTC Panther for more variety. Rather, because the Panzer III and Tiger I are simply the best choices to begin with. As far as using all three armor types goes, I’ll wait for a future FMG expansion to get my Panther. If a Panther’s turret doesn’t turn, it won’t be going anywhere near my game board. FMG has raised the bar.

      @knp7765:

      While the WOTC pieces are not as nice as the FMG pieces, they still look very nice and since they will be different models I don’t think the quality difference will be that noticable.

      Yeah, the WOTC pieces look “nice” but like I said the FMG pieces are in a class of their own. If you plan on mixing and matching shudder then I can understand why you want black Germans. The black will suck the detail out of the FMG models so you’re right, the quality difference will not be as noticeable. At least not for the Germans. The other powers are another matter entirely. Only a chimp would choose black for such small and detailed models because shadows are imperceptible on a black canvas.

      @knp7765:

      If the pieces were all gray, the FMG Germans would end up looking like WOTC ANZAC units.

      Only if you insist on combining the pieces on your board which you simply should not do. Again, the FMG pieces should not be viewed as an expansion but rather a replacement for the WOTC pieces.

      @knp7765:

      By the way, I understand FMG is making Germans in both gray and black so we all can get what we want.  If you just want the FMG pieces by themselves, then you can get the gray Germans.  If you want to combine FMG and WOTC pieces, then you can get the black Germans.

      Yes, I know this. FMG wants to do what’s right and make the Germans gray but they also have to appease those who want to combine the pieces.

      @knp7765:

      Just curious, for those of you who intend on getting the gray Germans and not using your WOTC pieces, what are you going to do with the WOTC pieces you already have?

      The same thing I do with everything else I’ve replaced with something new and improved: Sell it, pitch it, or give it away.

      @reloader-1:

      I agree with the last poster - I like that we can combine armies from FMG and WotC. Otherwise, we are back were we started.

      No we’re not. The future is beautiful WWII scale models by FMG. Now we have game pieces in the hands of someone who cares and not chimps!

      These game pieces are in a class of their own and quite clearly do not belong on the same game board as the WOTC pieces. Anybody who argued that the FMG Germans should be black, or that FMG shouldn’t make a Bismarck/Panther/ME-109 sculpt so that the pieces would tie in with or expand the WOTC offering must realize their arguments were silly.

      That being said, I feel that you would be abandoning these selfsame customers by not allowing them to use the pieces they already have in addition to the ones you will make.

      The pieces we already have are of inferior quality to what FMG will provide for us. They SHOULDN’T be used together.

      @reloader-1:

      I have made a poll on this matter - I am being vehement on this issue because I strongly feel that it would be in your financial interest to make them black

      It would be in YOUR financial interest not FMG’s.

      @reloader-1:

      I don’t think people realize that a vote for gray is limiting  their options – let me explain:

      I don’t think you realize that a vote for black is limiting FMGs options.

      @reloader-1:

      The Americans are color matched to OOB pieces: They have an M3 Stuart, and an M26 Pershing. They also have a P51 and B-24 piece, as well as a new artillery piece.

      What can you do with those? Well, the P-38 OOB is now a long-range fighter. The M3 Stuart is a “light tank” (potential 3 move tank, maybe?), the OOB Sherman is medium or regular tank, and the M26 can be a heavy tank or tank destroyer.

      See what I mean?

      Yeah, I do. Now you don’t have to buy the FMG P-38, Sherman, etc.

      @reloader-1:

      The same can be done for Germany if done in black – light tank is a Panzer III, medium/regular is OOB Panzer, and a Tiger tank could be the heavy/tank destroyer piece, etc, etc.

      The colors in gray would result in a huge array of pieces for the US… and a limited amount of pieces for Germany (really leaving us no better than where we started. I have trucks from Bulge, will have mech inf and tac bombers from Europe 1940. What I really want is more unit variety, so we can have more units on the board!

      FMG can offer those units you want in their next set and SELL them to you thereby making MORE money not less.  :? Your argument is both short sighted and self serving.

      @FieldMarshalGames:

      Hello all!

      I had that second picture made last week but was saving it…  with all the attention and hype with AAP40 pictures etc I did not want to divert any attention.  I was saving it to share in a “slow news time” with the community.  But as it is out…  ENJOY!

      To answer your question; we are going to make the NAVAL units a few mm larger than the standard AA units in the WOTC games.  This allows us to show more detail in each unit.

      The detail on the NAVAL units will be very good, but due to the fact that they are a smaller scale than the Land units, we can’t get the exact same effect as shown on the ITALIAN tank unit.

      Remember that with AAA pcs, they are all in different scales.  Planes / Infantry / Tanks / Ships all have their own scaling.  Although you can see the detail is MUCH greater than the WOTC units…  the detail level will very from scale to scale.

      Thanks for sharing! More to come soon.

      The detail is again excellent. However, at that scale the gun barrels must be about as thin as a human hair! Is the material strong enough? Would hate to have them braking off if they’re touched or the piece is dropped by accident.

      Are you planing on modeling the propellers on the air units? Again, is the material strong enough?

Wait, you cannot trade territories because of no figs past Japan 1 and you cannot replace as any other power. Oh, wait! Japan anyway will kill all or most China J1. OK, at least we can try escape to USSR or Burma with our last inf … oh, wait! There is some odd invisible wall that prevents us escape but japs enter merrily. OK, but at least those Nissan tanks at Manchuria cannot blitz our mountains and non-industrial areas … oh, wait …!

      It was so difficult make them a normal power?  :lol:

      I don’t get your fascination with China. The Chinese were a bit players during the war and they’re represented as such in A&A. I just don’t understand why you go on and on about China being underpowered, restricted, etc., etc.
