    • PBEM: Triple A AA:50

      Hey. I am always looking for people who feel like a PBEM game through TripleA

      (AA:50 is doing pretty well in TripeA now: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=44492&package_id=119711&release_id=665387)

      I play a turn every other day or so, so if you feel like a game, drop me a mail at wouter.dewever(a)home(dot)nl

      @Subotai:

      I would like to play against this strat in TripleA low luck game, but sadly AA50 is not finished yet for release in the stable version.

      If I think a strat is vastly inferior, then I could possibly be interested in playing reg dice, eventually good dice rolls can only bring you so far.

      There’s un anstable version, but it works perfect.

      http://triplea.sourceforge.net/mywiki/Forum

      The only thing I noticed so far are some error messages in History. But you can ignore them, and still look at it.
      For the rest, it seems to work great.

    • Delay Japan…..a bit...with Russia

      Considerations taken into account:

      • It takes Japan 5 or 6 turns no matter what Russia does to take the Northern route to Moscow. So…so what if you lose some Russian guys on that route in an attempt to block Japan early on?
      • Japan opens up heavily, taking 2 NO’s. This usually leaves only 1 INF in Manchuria (at least, with my standard opening, taking on China, Kwangtung, Phil. Islands, Borneo & East Indies) at the end of J1.

      With those considerations, at R1 you have a nice option to disturb Japan’s opening move. Move the INF from Yakut to Sov. Far East, and the 4 INF from Sov. Far East & Stanovoj to Buryatia.

      There’s 7 guys in Buryatia now. They have 60% chance to take that 1 Japanese guy at R2, taking Manchuria without losses.
      Even better, the chance of ending with less then 5 Russian attackers, is less then 1 %.

      So, by putting all those Russain guys at Buryatia, you either have a good chance of taking Manchuria R2 (and 5 guys is quite tough to kill for Japan on J2 aswell), or, you force Japan to leave quite some forces at Manchuria (if Japan puts 4 INF there at the end of J1, you still have a 75% of winning, with 3 Russian INF remaining), limiting it’s opening options.

      So, you have just denied Japan access to another NO, or, gave UK 1 extra NO (RUS taking Manchuria, originally under Japanese control……or does that count as Chinese…? Dammit…ow well, an extra guy for China)
      Combine it with a US Pacific strategy, and there might just be a chance that Japan aint all that invincible.

      At least it’s a bit more versatile then just stacking those Russian guys, and move 'em back 1 space every turn…

    • RE: UK & US IC's

      A standard German and Japan approach has UK back at 35 ipc at the end of UK1.
      With just the 43 ipc starting income…that money is much needed to build a reasonable force that can and protect it’s transport vessels, and be a threat to Germany at the same time.

      Then again…I am only in my first game a sUK as we speak…

      @kendric:

      If Japan is the slow axis power to kill russia, and germany is the fast one, wouldn’t taking british IPCs away from the german fight where its nice and close, to australia where you are building boats, just be a gift wrapped package for germany?

      My thoughts exactly. Especially if he’s enforcing it with 2 fighters at R2 as he said, that would mean 15 ipc + 20 ipc lost from the Euro front. UK can’t afford that…

      Try Polar Express (japs massive landings in Alaska area), so USA will be too busy to reinforce Africa. Fight USA in America, not in Europe, gain Africa for uncle Benito and make new-in-this-game axis economic advantage  :-P win the game for you

      The only thing that does not work I noticed so far is the partial retreat during a combined amphibious and land attack.

      Kev mentioned that it is not implemented yet. I think that for the time being the goal is to have the new things added so far working flawless before other features are added.

      Again, true.

      And I couldn’t care less about the partial retreat. The tech’s, NO’s, transports and all thse other nice features that make AA50 so great are implemented, so I love it  :-D

      Everyone keep in mind that this is the 1st beta version, i.e. expect plenty of bugs when playing it.

      True that. Forgot to mention it, sorry.
      Nonetheless, I’m down to my 2nd game now, and have yet to receive on error.

    • RE: AA50 1941 w/NO - Allied Allways Win

      No, it means not putting pressure on Japan until you (the Allies) have the Advantage.
      Think of it this way, what can do more damage, the Russian inf scattered throughout Asia or one big stack of them on Novo on R5?  The stack is more valuable b/c now you have support from all the Russian armor you were buying in the rds 1-5 that get placed in Mos or Cauc.  Your early advance by Japan is meaningless b/c once you get through China you have to stop until you are certain you have enough force to move or merge your stacks.  Which is easier said than done considering Japan starts extremely weak in Asia and usually makes Phil/Aus a J1-2 priority.  You’re 50-60 income earned in J3-4, etc, doesn’t hit Russia until Round 7, 8, 9, etc.

      “Your early advance by Japan is meaningless”

      It is? You describe it yourself, by J3-4 you are at 50-60 income.
      And what is your threat as Japan? Just 1 stack of defense, of on opponent that also needs to fucos on Germany.
      With…30?..income. Russia can afford only one battle, while Japan can easily afford 2, maybe 3. In a row.

      If Japan is given that much space early on because Russia and the other Allied players are prepapring and retreating for 1 good blow by turn4 or 5, Japan will have a field day in getting all of the Allied income and territories.

      Make sure Germany can withstand that first round 4 blow, and the Allies are broke, and without units.
      And then Japan starts kicking.

      (another idea I’ve seen is to build a Factory on one/two islands, producing another 4 units).

      Hey! That wa smy idea!  :-P

      It’s a long shot though, but I like it. If you place an IC on East Indies, you can pop out two ground units, a transport, and a fighter every turn (and after two rounds, you dont need to buy any more transports, and just shuttle). A nice combat force that can hit Australia, 50% of Pacific Islands, India, Persia, Trans-Jordan, Egypt, and the rest of the African East coast.

      It’s an expensive gimmick, but a fun one  :-)

    • RE: Need Help w/ 1941 Germany Please!

      General Neems, I havent played much games so far, but here’s a thought that I do rely on.

      You say yourself, it is too little, too late. There’s a few japan peeps at Moscow’s door, but just not enough to crack it down.
      And then Berlin falls, because you have been investing all your stuff in Russia, and the poor germans all got killed on the looooooooong way to Moscow.

      So, two obstacles, you need more units at Moscow, and you need more time.

      Shift your german attention. Buy time by being  a total pain in the Allied ass. If UK is able to land troops with a decent amount in rd 3, then you did something wrong in the Atlantic, and UK is having way too much money.
      Forget Rusia (well…not completely, but face it…it’s a looooooong road for the germans, and a painful one, even if they have to keep the ATlantik wall up at the same time). That oughta get rid of one obstacle: Time.

      Now, the lack of units. That’s Japan’s cup of tea. No matter what you do, it will take you 6 rounds before Japan is at Moscow’s door. In those 6 turns you should have taken all of the Pacific, and made UK look like a crying baby. If USA is being a dick and is playing in the Pacific, even better. Soak his IPC’s up, as you slowly creep up Moscow. By turn 6 you should be doing over 60 ipc at least. Don’t tell me that you can’t buy any tanks for that…or bombers…

      It’s a long game, but a fun one, with IMO the most succes for the Axis, instead of just racing to MOscow with Germany.

    • RE: Bidding

      @JWW:

      @Cmdr:

      I am wondering, and feel free to shoot this down, refine it, or say awesome idea whatever you want, if it might not be exciting to give BOTH sides a bid?

      What I am thinking is this:

      Each side is given 13 IPC to spend on units IMMEDIATELY.  Money can be sent as follows:

      • +1 IPC to any ground unit on the board to upgrade it to the next ground unit (Infantry >> Artillery  Artillery >> Armor)  Can only upgrade a unit once.
      • +1 or +2 IPC to any naval unit on the board to upgrade it to the next naval unit (Submarine >> Transport  Destroyer >> Cruiser  Cruiser >> Carrier - note that you wouldn’t be able to upgrade to a Battleship given the large price jump!)
      • 2 IPC can be spend upgrading a fighter to a bomber
      • Any number of IPC can be spend on new units
      • No more than 5 IPC can be spend on any one nation
      • IPC spent on China counts as IPC for America (ie it counts against the 5 IPC American can use maximum.)

      The allies upgrade first, then the axis upgrade.

      Ya know what’s funny, say 25 years ago a group of us sat around a large tables, beers & J’s aplenty discussing the same things w/respect to AA Classic. Now here we are, 25 or so years later, no beers or J’s and discussing this online. Crazy

      Nice observation  :mrgreen:.
      I must admit though, the image of 25 years ago looks so much prettier  :-D

      Back to topic…sadly.

      Jennifer, before I look into it, why would you do this, what are the intentions? Just to add some more variety, as each player can pimp his army in a way he suits best?

      This thread alone displays the balance between the Axis and Allies perfectly.

      Here we have half of the posters saying Axis rule, and the other half saying Allies rule.
      Let’s all switch sides and try and prove how wrong the other half is!  :-D

      1)  “I don’t think Japan should be going to Russia full blown. Just invest enough in Asia to gain a territory every turn, slowly creeping up to Russia.”

      Again, that means you will be in Moscow on Turn 6/7/8.  Which means the western allies have been invading western Europe for 4 straight turns.  Which means Germany/Italy are done.

      I know that that will take you 6/7 turns to get to Moscow, that’s what I said.
      Regardless what Japan does, it will take 'em 6/7 turns to get to Moscow at least.

      What matters is what Japan is doing in those 7 turns, as it slowly creeps up Moscow.
      Is it threatening USA, so that USA can’t go all out on Europe?

      I notice you mention timing a lot, so let’s look at it from Allied POV.
      They need, what, 5 turns, before Berlin falls? And that is with a crappy German/Italian combo.

      By turn 5, Japan should have at least taken all of USA’s NO’s except 1, and Uk should be down to <20 IPC.
      Sure, there might be a big force in Europe, getting ready to smack some Axis ass, but that will be just one smack.
      There will be no reinforcements, as money is low, and the few units are occupied defending the homeland.
      And Japan should be threatening both the US, the USSR and maybe even UK if they managed to sneak one transport to Brazil and plant an IC there….The options are unlimited.

      Can I ask one question? How many rounds does it take the Allies in your 100% Allied win games for them to capture Berlin?

      • phew *

      Looking at the title, I thought this was gonna be another “I have a 100% guaranteed succes strategy”-topic.

      Just what Uncle_joe said. I don’t think Japan should be going to Russia full blown. Just invest enough in Asia to gain a territory every turn, slowly creeping up to Russia.
      Why buy 5 tanks on the mainland to gain 1 territory, when you can also do that with 2 inf and 1 tank? The typical path to Russia is that each and every country inbetween, has at least 1 infantry standing on it.
      So no matter what you buy, you will always be advancing only 1 territory.

      So, without spending every IPC on the mainland, you will have enough money to bug America, take Africa, or whatever. Just do everything in your power to cripple US and UK, take their income, make a threat to West US. You will soon find out that by turn 4 or 5, Japan is monstrous in cash, might just even have an IC in Alaska or Brazil or whatever, and the Allies are threatened from every corner possible.
      This will take the pressure of Germany, who can take it easy against Russia.

      @allies_fly:

      @Woodstock:

      Currently I am in 2 games, both as the Axis without bid. (Note that this is Revised, but in AA:50 it might even be better, considering the no’s)

      Revised and AA50 are not the same game.

      It is pretty established that a heavy ground unit game plan for Germany is one of the better (if not preferred) German game plans in Revised.

      Funny thing is that in both games I Staarted with an AC buy, to secure the coast. So no heavy ground unit buy.
      All I am saying is, if you can keep up with Germany and hold out till round 5, Japan should be pretty damn big, threatening USA and Russia at the same time. (UK should be no issue anymore with their 20 ipc)
