    • RE: Naval Base in Alaska wins the game

      @Uncle_Joe:

      All I’m saying is try this and see how much it cripples Japans ability to advance quickly.

      You’ll note that anyone who has strong opinions on game balance/strategies will likely have a negative ‘karma’ rating. ;) That alone tells me that a lot of people are not prepared to discuss and debate but rather belittle and discount posted strats.

      Speaking of which….Where did the karma thing go? Not that I miss it, just surprising to see it go.

    • RE: AAP1940 Need help counting air movement spaces

      @Omega:

      Say you are planning a huge battle, but only have, say 3 Aircraft carrier. Can you still launch more fighter? (over 6) or can you only launch IF there is, at the moment of the attack, a place to land? (So in our example, since we only have 6 landing spot, we can only launch 6 to attack)

      Robert

      The latter. YOu are only allowed to send in planes that, when theoretically everything survives, can land.

    • RE: Scrambling question

      Would like to know the answer aswell, since I am leaning to a “No, that is not allowed.”

      After all, that would mean that when my USA island is under attack, I, as the USA player, gets to decide on what the UK fighters on my island are doing.

      And as my memory serves me well, there is not one situation where a player has any control over the units of an allied player. (apart from picking casualties in a multi national defense)

    • Convoy SZ adjacent two a Japanese & UK territory?

      It is possible to have a SZ with a convoy marker to be adjacent to a Japanese territory and an UK territory at the same time.

      Can both Japan and UK disrupt this convoy at that moment?

    • RE: A few questions

      @Profile2012:

      since neutral countries have no ipc value can anyone tell me what are the advantages of invading a neutral country, if any? did they just add the new neutrality rules just for more realism or what?

      They’re not thát new. In the original A&A, you could invade neutrals aswell, but you had to pay some fine or something IIRC.
      As for P40: advantage could be, by invading Mongolia, you can surround China, and attack it from two sides. But that would be the only advantage, and a very tiny one.

      when does a convoy disruption actually happen? i know its during the collect income phase, but if like america moves into, lets say the waters around japan does the convoy disrution happen during the end of japan’s turn or america’s turn? and also the rules state that at least one enemy warship must be present during the disruption. how does that work? when all combat prior to the collect income would have eliminated any enemy warships. assuming that you won the sea battle. maybe i’m misinterpreting the rules or somethin. could someone clarify these rules for me?

      I am Japan.
      I do my things.
      At the end of my turn, I enter the collect income phase.

      At that moment, I have to check (and with me, all other players aswell) all my SZ’s containing convoy markers for enemy warships.
      In 1 SZ with a convoy marker adjacent to a territory I own, I spot an US Destroyer.

      That’s -1 IPC for me.

      In another SZ with a convoy marker adjacent to a territory I own, I spot a ANZAC sub. That’s -2 IPC for me.

      Note that at any given time, the convoy disruption can never cost Japan more money than the IPC value of the territories surrounding the disrupted seazone.

      If I, as Japan, happen to have sunk all Allied ships during this turn, there will be no enemy ships in my convoys, and hence, no convoy disruption will occur.

      Hope that clears things up for you.

    • RE: TripleA and Pac40

      @Subotai:

      @KH:

      I understand how hard it is to get everything right, that will take a lot of effort and time. But…is it also hard/difficult to create a version in which you can move all units to where-ever you want? That would ofcourse not be a good playable version, but a very nice strategy-try out version. I could then move ships and planes according to the rules (airbases, navalbases, scrambling etc.) by myself.

      Like to hear the (im)possibilities.

      Thanks a lot.

      There is an edit version, which if you turn it on, you can remove and add units, and some other features.

      …such as changing territory ownership, every nation’s amount of IPC’s etc.

      It works great to save an unfinished game when your playgroup gets tired, or…as you are looking for…to test certain strats.

      The one thing I do miss is to edit tech and damage.

      @jim010:

      Only if they ended their movement in the carrier’s sea zone.  If they are in the territory from which the carrier is being mobilized, they cannot be moved onto it.

      Ok, just so I am clear.  I move my planes onto the empty sea zone in non-combat, then build my carrier, and my planes are automatically on the carrier?  That is legal?

      Yes.

      Offcourse, only 2 per AC still.

      It should be in the rules IIRC. I dont have the rulebook at hand as we speak, but it states somewhere that crossing a coastal line counts as one move.

      @ksmckay:

      On page 20 under restricitions on placement it says “You cannot have more than one industrial complex per territory”

      D’oh. Must have missed that one then…Sorry. I will try not to read the rulebook drunk anymore  :roll:

    • Multiple IC's in 1 territory?

      My copy finally arrived, so I got a chance to read the rulebook.
      Also read the Rule errata here, and something triggered me. (this: The final sentence should read “Industrial complexes cannot be built on islands (Japan is the exception).)

      Sooo…now that building units no longer is restricted to a territories’ IPC value: Are we allowed to build multiple IC’s in 1 territory?
      I don’t believe anything is mentioned in specific about it in the rulebook regarding building IC’s, apart from the Island restriction, and the 2 or 3 value limit.

    • RE: Dutch Islands and UK/ANZAC Airplanes

      @EvilGardenGnome:

      @Veqryn:

      so they can?

      i agree, but this makes coding it for triplea 1000x harder now

      Assuming you’re talking about planes landing there, just make the Dutch a power in the game. You’d have to wait through their turn, but it wouldn’t take that long as they’ll have no money or units.

      That wouldn’t solve it I guess. If you make the Dutch an allied power (which is needed to have the planes land there), UK and/or ANZAC would never be able to occupy the DEI to collect the income.

      Wouldn’t it be possible to implement a 4th type of nation into the engine, next to allied, axis and neutral?

      version 1.1.2 of the pac40 map is out….
      sh*t loads still wrong with it though… but it doesn’t crash any more :)

      I like it already though. Finally some hands on on the game, while I await my copy. Keep up the great work!

    • RE: China too weak

      @!ACHTUNG!:

      @Gargantua:

      China can win but only through counter-attack, you can’t beat Japan by blocking thier path with units on defence.

      Instead, let them take ground for FREE during thier move, and then counter thier infantry 1 at a time through counter-attacks.  This severely limits the amount of troops japan can keep on the ground, and in turn, restricts the amount of aircraft they can use to support them (Because Japan is not likely to suicide fgts and tac bmb’s into plain chinese infantry)

      This has been an effective method, each time I’ve used it.  It helps the allied effort, by forcing japan to commit more and more troops.

      In short - Play hide and seek with Japanese Aircraft.

      WOW, YOU SOUND LIKE YOU HAVE PLAYED THIS VERSION A LOT. HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU EVEN PLAYED THIS GAME? WORD ON THE STREET IS ONCE. SHOULD YOU REALLY BE OFFERING ADVICE TO ANYONE AT THIS POINT??

      Word is on the street that you should let go of the SHIFT button once in a while.

      Little q about this image:

      I see those vague spots on various seazones, dark at the bottam half, blank on the top half.
      I reckon those are the convoy symbols, right?

      But what is that second spot in SZ35?

      And sorry, while reading Djensen’s previews, my eye catches this:

      "No country, Japan nor the Allies may enter the Soviet Union. "

      :oops:
