Bob. First off, awesome work.
But….and this proves you really are fitted to work at WoTC :P …there’s a typo on the new battleboard!
Causality zone? Or Casualty zone?

Causality zone? Or Casualty zone?
Well…worry not. I will be buying 'em all :-P
I attack an island under American control.
On the Island are USA and ANZAC forces.
May both nations scramble? Or just the USA since I attack a USA seazone?
Alright, my playgroup just gathered around for the 1st time, so many questions may appear this evening :P
Firts one. While I was explaining about all the typos and the errors in the rules, our history buff looked at Borneo, and said: “…and Borneo is Dutch?”
Apparently, historically Borneo is dutch? Typo, or correct in the game?
Wow, that was a lot more of an answer then I even hoped for. A simple “Yes, x & y are pretty much the same” would have been sufficient
Thanks a bunch Frimmel, much appreciated!
To revamp an old topic….* fingers crossed *

Subject: Battleboard Axis & allies Pac40 and other concerns
Dear sir/madam,
recently I bought “Axis and Allies, Pacific 1940.”
I have stumbled upon several errors in the game, that make playing it a
lot harder. While browsing the internet, it turns out I am not the only
one facing these issues, and that Wizards of the Coast is able to solve
these issues.
With this mail I would like to request you to:
The battleboard can be sent to the following adress:
I hope you will take these concerns in consideration, and would
appreciate it very much if your company would decide to send out more
units to their loyal fans.
Kind regards,

So, I just took a first look ever on Battle of the Bulge, and am surprised to see that it is completely different then the “regular”, global A&A games.
Not quite feeling like wading through all the other games, I hope you would like to answer a quick q:
Are the other non-global variants similar to Battle of the Bulge, or similar to the global versions of the game?
Thanks.
Ah, nice! I thougt they had a lot more to do still. I dont care for AI the least.

(You’d think that the test playgroup would notice such annoying things as well?)
We playtesters don’t get material from the company, especially not things like plastic parts, containers, etc. We have to use whatever we already have. We just get the rules and map files from Larry and go from there.
Well at least you could have fixed the rules.
I wonder with what setup they played. Major IC & Minor IC for Anzac?
Woodstock - The 1984 A&A, which wasn’t actually the original, had white styrofoam containers, not dissimilar than my solution. They were very fragile and didnt fit the poker chips very well, but it was a good design for sure. The original game was released in 1981 by Nova Game Designs, although I’ve never seen that edition. Thank you for the compliment! I was very pleased with the results myself.
Sorry 'bout the error about the original (Heck, I’m from 1982, my bro got the game in '89, so Im allowed to make mistakes :) )
As for fragilness (sp?): Those white styrofoam containers still are intact, and that after +20 years of usage. I actually don’t see that happening with the paper containers now included.
As for the poker chips…these fit perfectly in the containers we had?
Oh well…doesn’t matter anyways…it still amazes me how WoTC craps up like this in every single version of A&A that I bought.
I’ll let you know tomorrow, after my first live game, where I will be Japan and two master minds plus a third not so good one as the Allies…

Well…that explains a whole lot of things.
I thought the playtesters would get the actual thing before launch aswell, and there’d be room to adress remarks still.
No wonder. I kept thinking “Why did those playtesters didnt get pissed or frustrated by the lack of <insert all=”" those=“” random=“” issues=“” here=“”>"
Thanks for clearing that up.</insert>

@skinny1:
Try this:
http://foldinggametable.blogspot.com/
This guy made a folding game table but also used magnets for the fighters and carriers.
I wonder for how much money would he sell his game?
I mailed him once, but never got a reply.
That however changes the game completely, not saying it is a bad thing since I’ve never tried, but nevetheless the game would be totally different. Luck is something you must take into account. And in all honesty, this game was first designed to be played with friends. And let me tell you, there’s nothing better than a very bad roll to stir up things or to make things more exciting. That and I suppose pizza beer and bad jokes
I couldnt agree more.
@democratic:
What extacaly is low luck at how do you do it.
Thanks
In LowLuck, you add up the attack vallues of all units.
For every 6 points, you have an automatic hit, for the remainder of attack value you throw a dice.
Example:
Japan attacks with 4 INF and 1 ARM
UK defends with 3 INF and 1 FTR
Japan has a total attack value of:
(4 x 1) + 3 = 7
For UK a defense value of
(3 x 2) + 4 = 10
so that means, in the first round of combat, both sides get 1 autohit (for every 6 value), and Japan gets to throw 1 dice for 1 value, and UK 1 dice for 4 value.
Let’s say that Japan misses with the dice, and UK hits.
Round2, Jap lost 2 INF, UK 1.
Japan attack value now is 4 (1 INF & 1 ARM).
UK is at 8.
Japan rolls 1 dice for 4, UK gets an autohit, and rolls a 2.
Etc.
This reduces the influence of the dice heavily.
WRT the original poster: Your solution reminds me of the original white foam boxes that came with the old A&A (2nd Edition it is? Not sure)
It’s the first A&A game my playgroup used, after which we jumped to Revised (no boxes at all), onwards to AA50 (yes, boxes!..but with only 3 huge compartments) and now AAP40 (yes, boxes!..no dividers at all…).
It’s amazing to see that the original AA, fabricated and published in what, the 80’s? …had the best boxes of all versions, and that how the game evolves, such attributes get lesser and lesser in quality and usability. (You’d think that the test playgroup would notice such annoying things aswell?)
Anyhew…I went with the boardgamegeek solution yesterday, and it’s not bad…but looking at yours I think I might have to do it all over again.
Some people have said that a Triple A version will be available for it, but I don’t know much about it.
It is under construction, but won’t be finished any time soon. More info can be found HERE
I do not think the UK may enter China until there is a DOW. Just reinforcing China permits the Japanese to attack UK and ANZAC units and territories.
You think correct.
