    • RE: AA50 Worth it?

      @toblerone77:

      My opinion is mixed I bought it but I’m still itching to play.

      The cardboard stuff is nice.
      The plastic stuff I think is, in many instances is poorly formed and has quality issues. I would have been happier with the old generic pieces from 84/91 editions. This is no excuse however because AAE and AAP’s parts were vastly superior in quality to AAR’s. Nice artwork on cardboard counters would be a helluva’lot nicer than the “Dollarstore” micro army men they packed in AAR’04 and this current edition of AA50.

      I know there’s alot of kids and dorks who secretly play with the parts but when T have vessel that have to be shaved so they don’t tip over it really pisses me off. This game is worth buying overall but for a hundred bucks I’d expect better quality.

      If you’re a ‘noob’ I’d suggest that you but this over ‘revised’ first. This is a culmination of all the previous editions and spin-offs and worth it if you consider all the good times you’ll have verses a couple of videogames for your average computer/ videogame console.

      My salt in this posting is that I’ve played AA since '93 and always thought it would be cool to have German tanks look like German Tanks and British Fighters look like Spitfires. They did a crappy job and I had to say it.

      Lastly, I’m sick of typos and constantly having to clarify rules and other BS. Is it too much to ask?

      I bought AA50 and can’t wait to play, and overall I say buy it.

      That ^.

    • RE: Can the USSR stand alone in AA50?

      In Revised it actually makes life a lot harder on the allies.  Japan now has nothing better to do than attack Alaska and W. USA meaning America has to actually invest in a National Guard and a navy in the Pacific.

      Didnt think of that, true.

      But even wit a occupied USA, unable to feed Europe with troops…With the concrete Russian wall, the Germans have to spend every IPC on it to even make a chance of breaching it…whilst UK is harmlessly stabbing them in Western front.

      Offcourse, this is Revised Im talking…the Russian wall in AA50 seems a bbit thinner…

      @Cmdr:

      It would be interesting if Japan and Russia could not attack each other until Berlin or Washington/London fall.  That would significantly aid Russia in defending itself against Germany in all editions.

      If Rus wouldnt have to worry about japan at all, it can bring every unit towards Germany.
      It will then be impossible for Germany to breach it. That would then be way too tough for the Germans. They already have a hard time imo.

      Sorry for that underline :S

      Hey, I haven’t played AA:50 yet (unless the TripleA beta version counts…)
      From what I have seen and read, it is a bit (and justa bit) tougher for japan to reach moscow. It’s not impossible for them (far from), it just takes 'em a round or 2 extra.
      As for the Russia / German front, it seems even more easier for the Germans at first sight. Then again, I have only played as the Germans so far against the lousy AI.
      I have played againts some very tough Russian players in AA:R, so I reckon there must be a way for Russia to be a pain in the german’s butt in AA50 aswell, just as it was in AA:R.

      @Romulus:

      You lose the fighter only if after the loss of the AC it has not other places to land. I mean, if the fighter may legally move to land elsewhere losing the AC do not cause the loss ot the figther.

      Offcourse, but I was going at his statement of

      No other places to land around.

      you can select the AC as casualty first, but that will undoubtedly mean that, if you win the battle, you will loose the fighter.

      It just seems that all of this, especially China, will make the 1942 scenario play better.

      It just seems that this 1942 setup makes it a whole lot easier for the Allies.

      @Woodstock:

      Try Holland…it’s impossible to find…

      But the real irony is that you live halfway around the world from WOTC headquarters… I live a 4 hour drive away…

      Shotgun + Doorbell = no option?

      Anyways…I just found it on a webshop in Holland…I think.
      I need some help, because I am heavily confused by the shop.

      The title of the game is “Axis & Allies Spring 1942 - The World is at War”. (And not A&A: Anniversary Edition)
      The description states “5 players”, but in the details it’s listed as “6 players.”
      It looks as if they copy/pasted the description of Revised and/or Classic. Italy and China are not mentioned.

      I can’t really make out if the image of the box is the correct one, so if someone who actually has it could take  alook at this please:

      Axis & Allies

      and tell me if that logo at the bottom right corner is that AA:50 thing…that would be great!

      Ow…and for the record…I finally managed to win with the Allies!  Twice! :roll:

      I wish I could’ve seen the look of my opponent’s face, when he opened the TripleA file, ready to take Moscow, only to see I caught Tokyo by surprise  :-P

      @Cmdr:

      @Woodstock:

      Blitz is hitting Norway, W. Russia, Ukraine,

      My god Jenniffer….how in a heaven’s name do you pull that off?
      Even though I like the sound of it, I already have a hard time keeping Russia alive with just going for WRUS and UKR…
      What’s your buy in a scenario like that? Offense, or defense?

      As KGB and Mollari and a few other players who follow my games can tell you, I routinely pull off this attack (failed against DarthMaximus once, and he’s definitely not someone you want to fail against!)

      3 Infantry, Armor, Fighter to Norway
      6 Infantry, Artillery, Armor to W. Russia
      3 Infantry, Artillery, 2 Armor, Fighter to Ukraine

      Assumes no bid units in any of those territories.  33% chance to win in all 3.

      Okay, that I can follow…but I have tried both Norway and Ukraine like that in R1, and either I have bad luck, or you are in fierce problems in R2…

      WRUS is a safe bet, with that amount of infantry, you have enough cannon fodder before you feel it in your firepower, but especially Norway and Ukr tend to go very nasty for me, practically each and everytime I try it…

      @captainjack:

      Hey, I know this is off the topic, but as long as we’re talking TripleA - I have a question:
      Are there any intentions of having a more difficult AI opponent than “Easy Al”?
      Thanks

      There’s talks about it at the dev’s forum yes, but nothing solid yet.

      @ShredZ:

      TripleA is all about function before form, Ive loved using it to wage war against my friends. I get to play a free game b/c of the hard work of others, you cant complain about that. Props~

      :mrgreen:

      What he said. TripleA is the best way to fill my A&A needs, and I defi hope you guys will keep up the work.

      Ah, the TripleA vs Battlemap debate again ;)

      Jennifer, that firewall issue is easily fixed by enabling port forwarding on port 33. Then again, that offcourse wont be of much use at work or something…

      Still, I vote AAA as my favourite way of playing A&A on the comp.

      Thanks for the help everyone. Even though it pretty much is alike to what I am doing, for some reason those japan tanks keep rolling in.
      Guess I have to send in just a tad more help into Moscow for defending purposes, before taking on Germany…

    • RE: So, do you ignore Japan completely?

      Jennifer,

      1)  Unify the Allied fleets in the South Pacific and strip Japan of her main islands.  This is good and it has been successful, but there just isn’t any panache too it in my opinion.  Given how easy it is to knock Japan over (defined as no navy + nothing but Japan and maybe a territory or two on the mainland) I don’t see a need for this route really.

      I like that approach aswell…but I always find myself spending a lot of money on fleet stuff, to counter that impressive Japanese fleet…with it’s two BB’s and AC’s.
      I mean, if he pulls of PH, America has nothing. That what’s remaining, will be killed in round 2, unless you flee through the Panama Canal. You cant buy enough in just USA1, to counter the fleet that’s lying in Hawaii.
      Or am I missing something?

    • RE: So, do you ignore Japan completely?

      Yah….but the problem is…I am not even going for a KJF. I cant even friggin pull off a KGF in Revised!
      For some reason, I have Japan always reach Moscow, before I am able to wear down Berlin.

      Delaying Japan seems to be too costly for both UK and USA, while at the same time taking on Germany.
      So what do I do? Do I move UK fleet out of the pacific to regroup, and the same with the US, and then strike back in the later rounds, limiting my costs on fleet, and maximizing on ground units, preparing for a massive d-day?

      I just cant seem to find the balance.
