      @Wolfshanze:

      Ya… I believe the 1984 Classic A&A map had every territory worth at least 1 (and of course others more).  I’m not really a huge fan of territories worth nothing.  If I was more talented, I’d be breaking into the Supreme map files and jiggling with the numbers across the board for sure.  I still also see some value and charm to the original 1984 Axis and Allies classic game.  While the new boards and new units are vastly superior to the 80s version, some concepts were fun, such as every territory being worth something and a nice balance of money values, not too high, not too low.

      Yes, there was the infantry wall problem in classic, but it can/should be easily solved by reintroducing artillery to 1941, which is simple as saying “here they are, have at it”.

      I think 1941 is closer to being Classic A&A than 1942 is, with the exception of the income issue.  I was pulling up some numbers, and this is what I came up with… here’s the starting incomes of each nation based on version:

      Classic A&A (1984 release)
      USSR: 24, Germany: 32, UK: 30, Japan: 25, US: 36

      1941 A&A
      USSR: 7, Germany: 12, UK: 12, Japan: 9, US: 17

      1941 A&A Custom Double IPC proposal
      USSR: 14, Germany: 24, UK: 24, Japan: 18, US: 34

      Even a simple doubling of the IPC values of the marked territories in 1941, would greatly increase income, but STILL be less than classic (or 1942 for that matter)… and toss in some artillery, you should be able to break those infantry walls.  Might be something to toy with, and its a lot simpler to double values than try to introduce new rules that need to be tracked.

      I played with same cost for ground units but cheaper boat.
      Sub 5
      DD 6
      CA 9
      CV 12
      BB 15
      TP 7 (1 hit, but not totally defenseless, AA gun on board)

      It allows more interesting purchase.

      Planes were special

      Lol…

      Ya, if you read my previous thread, then you know I’ve basically abandoned about 95% of the HBG custom units I’ve ordered. I had a goal of doubling or tripling my available force pool of units (if I had 10 tanks from the base game, I wanted 20 to 30 in my bins for example). I had at first ordered a little of everything… some additional OOB units, some custom HBG units, etc… after receiving several waves of additional units, I came to the conclusion that the only thing really working for me was mostly the planes (HBG planes blended well with OOB planes). For the most part, the tanks and ships suffered with scaling issues next to the OOB units (as we’ve discussed).

      So, in the end, I kept almost all my custom HBG planes, and found a new home for the ships and tanks (another forum member scooped them up)… I then refilled what I wanted with OOB units… once again, this was more about conformity and ease of identity for the new players I was teaching than anything else… I think the HBG units are well done otherwise.

      As for my final order of that German Expansion Set 3… we’ll see… they will all get used… one way or another… either i’ll like them and integrate them… or i’ll find a new home for them… don’t want to see them go to waste. I really WANT Panzer-IV’s in my game… if they’re at least close to OOB size, they’ll stay put… if I got to break out tweezers again to move them around, i’ll rehome them.

      @Krieghund:

      AAA units defend only against attacks on combat units.  They do not participate in SBRs.

      Ok thanks… thats what I thought, just wanted to make sure.

      I tried a SS5-DD6-TP8-CA9-CV12-BB15 increment cost for warships.
      It allows more units at sea.

      My planes were cheaper too (and different in combat values) Fg6 TcB8 StB10

      Inf, Art and AAA were added too.
      Here is the link with a word document to the modified set-up and units.
      I Hope these players aids could help.

      @Young:

      Those look awesome wolf, I would be very interested in getting some of those.

      I know you’re in Canada, so not sure how/what your limits are to shopping or ordering online, but here’s a link to the organizers from Home Depot online… if nothing else, you get “the official” name.

      I use these for the nation trays
      https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-7-in-6-Compartment-Small-Parts-Organizer-83039N13/204536852

      I use this for the accessories

      Of course, use them as you will…

      As for my flags, I just used Vistaprint and made some small rectangular product labels and you upload your pictures into them… perfect for national bin flags… I made sure to use era-appropriate flags (like the 48-Star American Flag)

      They actually show up on eBay a lot.  The key is to try different search terms.  Not everyone lists them as Industrial Complexes.  Sometimes you have to try Axis and Allies Factories, Industrial Factories, etc.

      I’ve gotten several private messages and some responses in this thread… so just as a head’s up and a community service…

      Because of the private messages, I have ALREADY made a deal to unload my custom units, and they are, in-fact, already mailed off.

      I know its kinda pointless now, but if you’re still that curious as to what I did have, here’s the complete list of the custom HBG units I had purchased in the last few weeks to beef up my bins… since I later made a decision to pull them and not use them, I did eventually re-order equivalent numbers of default/original OOB A&A units from HBG to beef up my numbers (like if I didn’t like the two HBG Japanese Fuso battleships, I reordered two OOB Kongo or Yamato battleships to replace them… so-on and so-on.  Anyways, here’s the (now kinda pointless) list:

      (BTW: you may notice that for the most part, planes are missing from this list… I found most custom HBG aircraft to be good enough and scaled well enough to survive my “off-scale axe”.  So there are many HBG planes like P-47s and F4F/Hellcats that survived the cut and made it into my permanent bins)

      @cyanight:

      I have no idea when the German set will ship. I think it was supposed to ship in late spring. Once the pre-orders are filled you can buy the set or groups of 5 pieces. I paint all my pieces so I could care less about color.

      I checked the site out… German Set 3 is supposed to be out in “April”… so if that’s true, they got a 30 day window coming up.  Pre-Orders are “sold out”, which is worrisome to someone who didn’t get a pre-order in (c’est moi)… so no clue when the set will be available again or individual sculpts can be ordered, but I’d definitely like a lot out of that set. The Deutschland class pocket battleships would be sweet… hopefully they are sized as Cruisers and not as Battleships… and of course the ubiquitous Pz-IV is a must.  Surprised it’s taken all these years to get a Pz-IV.

      I ordered 16xWhite infantry, 5xWhite Stuart Light Tanks, 4xWhite P-40s from HBG to represent possible neutral countries with varying setups… I’ll toss them in an organizer and have them handy for when/if I decide to implement some Neutral nation rules for 1942 SE.  I wanted a color that didn’t look remotely close to any other nation for neutrals.

      EDIT:
      and then I went back and realized they had a “neutral nation set” and I ordered a couple of those… ugh… some things aren’t listed on every page they should be! lolz

      Thanks for the design clarification… appreciate the thoughts during design… I know in the game design business you will always be second guessed, and i’d be happy to toss in a “what about just a simple rule like subs can’t stop passage of units unless its unescorted transports…”  even if it’s just “one warship” which is the same rule you DID put in place for amphibious operations.  Oh well, i’m sure they won’t be putting out an A&A Third Edition rules, Wolfshanze-style!  lolz.  Oh well, that’s what house rules are for.

      Thanks again for a great game… I know I might sound a little grumpy, but I always have loved A&A since 1984 when I first started playing, and I really can’t wait to introduce the game to my kids and get back into it again… in the end, my concerns in this thread are minor in the overall picture, and I know i’ll love it now like I did 30 years ago… fingers crossed my kids will feel the same!

      @Wolfshanze:

      On HBG’s website, they have ONE plane, and it’s called the “F4F Hellcat”. I was inferring there’s no such thing as an “F4F Hellcat”… It’s either an F4F Wildcat, or an F6F Hellcat… but HBG has the plane on it’s website named incorrectly (either the #designation, or the nickname).

      My favorite American airplane nomenclature from that era is the nickname which pilots gave to the greatly-disliked Curtiss SB2C Helldiver: “Son of a B––, 2nd Class”.

      Sad to say, my daughter defeated me in Risk this week… her eye for strategy is in her genes.  I might have to introduce the kids to 1941 soon!

      She sounds like she has the potential to rise through the ranks very quickly.  I’m reminded of a quote from the WWII-era movie Air Force, in which the enlisted crew chief of a B-17 proudly announces that his son (a fighter pilot) has just received his commission as a Lieutenant: “Can you imagine me saluting my own kid?”
