@Wolfshanze Yeah, like I said MB was growing on me especially because the the nostalgia factor. If you played this game you definitely remember that MB prominently in the upper left corner.

But I guess it was decided by Larry some time back to call it Classic. I can ask Wizards what they call it internally, if anything. If there is something official, maybe we can get them to put out an official “statement” via an interview or something. But for now, it’s Classic.

I myself don’t like the Italian, and Russian color schemes. So i change their colors. For Italy is bright green because their flag has green in it. For Russia is red because of the red army. I should use your color scheme for ANZAC.

Ya… they definitely changed their format to something different than when I ordered them… it’s definitely a downgrade on ease of use.

To get the same items I have, on that page select “Sheet, Rounded Rectangle, Horizontal, 3.5"x2”, White Paper" and then choose the finish you want and hit “Start Designing”… choose “Upload your design”, then add your image.

Finally on the sizing, it might look off, but I actually lengthened some of the flag images intentionally to get them to fit right… realize you need to FILL THE ENTIRE LABEL… this means feel free to have parts enlarged beyond the label… I did this intentionally with flags like the US Flag to get them to fit right… just enlarge it so much it fills top to bottom, don’t try and get the entire length of the flag stripes in. You might have to pull the image down, stretch it taller, then reposition it back to center until you fill the label top to bottom… just do this on all the labels you should be fine.

@Imperious-Leader I think it’s semi-officially Classic. The A&A Wikipedia mentions it and I think it references the Larry Harris Game Design site.

While I totally forgot to take a picture of the Labyrinth miniatures unpainted, I found a stock photo… if you buy the game, this is what comes out of the box, so it’s a comparison of before (below) and after (above in previous post) of the difference paint makes!

Well, “technically” Cyber Bunny wasn’t replaced by Space Penguin, Cyber Bunny was replaced by Cyber Kitty… Kraken was rather strangely replaced by Space Penguin.

I just got the new Power Up for 2nd Edition, and it has evolution cards for both 2nd Edition Cyber Kitty and Space Penguin as well as the older Cyber Bunny and Kraken (as I have all four of these), so that was pretty cool.

I think my favorite customization of all, is the cloth/rubber game mat that sits under the original game board… I always thought the original board was just too small, and monsters “not inside” Tokyo always just kinda seemed lost… having the bigger game mat allows for a proper “Tokyo Suburbs” which gives more meaning to those monsters not yet inside Tokyo proper.

I just made my own bootleg Italians with Krylon “Classic Grey-” this was a $4 Walmart special.

Between my copies of AAR, AA42, AA41, and AA42.2, I was able to scrounge up more than enough ugly/unique sculpts to give those backward stepchildren of the Axis their own tantalizingly un-purchasable and 1942.2-ready complement of 3 BB (Axis BBs from 41), 5 CA (cut the masts off some small UK/RU BBs from AAR _, 6 TR (axis TR from 41), 8 art (japan AAR) and 4 Bmr (axis '41 bmrs). The rest of the forces are donated with love from AAR Germany, including the 88’s that finally get to serve their intended AAA purposes in the Italian army.

Monopoly hotels really work?

Not just ANY Monopoly hotels… as you know, Monopoly comes in many, Many, MANY different themed versions… the Monopoly Hotels I used were from LotR Monopoly… and yes, the hotels from LotR Monopoly are basically Middle Earth fortresses perfectly suited in size and sculpt for use in LotR Risk… as I mentioned earlier, by default they come in a semi-translucent white, which can be used for all sides… I went one step further and painted mine to match the four army colors for further clarity. If you search E-Bay, you can probably find someone just selling the LotR hotels for cheap… I didn’t spend much, and a lot cheaper than buying the whole game just for the hotels.

Personally, I prefer MB GameMaster Edition.

You can do the same thing when you declare you’re going to bring an existing carrier up in NCM for fighters to land on after a battle is over. If the fighters die, you don’t have to move the carrier. Reference the “Pearl Harbor light” opening for Japan.

It’s a board game, not a historical simulation.

So have we come up with a solution to the purchasing problem? Or do I just bin it all and teach my 9 year old 42.2 or 50? I’d love to make this version work as it would be great for a pub battle. I’m tempted to do the +1 to every territory.

IMHO, 1941 is more a learning tool to introduce people to the game than a staple of the series. Once someone has the basics down, you’d be better-off moving-on to either 1942.2 or the new Anniversary Edition, then you don’t have to worry about “fixing” the money issue in 1941.

Well, I agree with your assessment of the games and will do so with my son. But we don’t always have time for the larger games so I was looking for a way to get more purchasing power into a small quick game. I like the simplicity of this one over, say, Revised. It takes a lot of the “level 2” rules out which is great for him. But I want him to explore more complex buys.

I think you’re talking about 1941?  1941 barely ships with any units out of the box.  I would hope 1914 ships with enough considering its hefty price tag.

An Italian IC would provide a possible target for the Allies, so the distraction could work both ways.      I think the inability to purchase new factories would have been an argument to include a few more in the set up.

2 to each Axis nation and 3 to each Allied nation would probably have been nice, with the idea that the Allies are likely to lose production in contested areas of the map early on to make up the difference.

Use the same colors as Diplomacy. Problem solved!

This is another rationale about the weakness of AAA.
Its value depends on attacker tactics.
And most of the time worth only 1 hit.

I sometimes buy them for a known raid against Moscow or London when the calculator suggests a better final outcome.  If the attacker has any choice to use the planes elsewhere or skip the attack, buying a AAA does not make sense.
