Yep… and $54 bucks a set… I know they’re really, Really nice… but I think i’ll just spend the $7 for Battle Bucks instead…
I scored 1941 this weekend… with all 10 pieces for the five countries… what a let down… and half of them are all the wrong sculpts (like Joseph Stalin tanks for the US, and Tiger tanks for the Japs)… with as few pieces that come with 1941, its amazing the game is even playable out of the box (I won’t even attempt it till i get more units from HBG and 1942).
I have 1942 SE already en-route via mail, and I ordered nearly $100 bucks worth of HBG sculpts (placed a 2nd order when I realized “i wasn’t done”). I bought a bunch of early war US HBG Shermans to completely replace the Shermans that come with 1942… i wasn’t impressed with the 1942 Sherman… also some Pershings, F4Fs, Essex CVs, South Dakota and Nevada BBs, Japanese Type-97 tanks, Nagato BB, Fuso BB, and well… a bunch of other stuff (for each nation)… I really, Really, REALLY wanted something for England besides Matildas… either the Valentines or Churchills would have done, but both were out of stock (bummer). I’m surprised there’s no Cruiser tanks available for the UK. There weren’t very many Matilda’s in England’s arsenal, and they were quickly abandoned for just about any other type of tank. Oh well… it’s better Matilda’s then English Joseph Stalin tanks! lolz.
I also ordered some Battle Bucks from HBG… I have the classic IPC’s from my 1984 A&A Classic, but they were heavily used and I think the HBG set looks nicer anyways. I’m scavenging the 12 Industrial Plants from my A&A Classic, but knowing that barely covers what is initially placed in 1942, I wanted more than a couple spares… HBG is constantly out, but I was able to scoop up another dozen Industrial Plants off E-Bay for $5 bucks, so now I have plenty of Industrial Plants.
Now its just the waiting game for everything I ordered to come in.
Oh, I thought he was talking about Alessandra…

Thanks for your help. Itried to add a photo of the cover box but because I am a new member I was not allowed to do this.
I believe you can add pictures at 10 posts… my descriptions are accurate, so if you just follow my guidelines, you can tell which version you have… were you able to figure it out? Hope my post was helpful to you.
Went back and forth between a few stores looking at multiple options for national storage bins, and debated on larger organizers for sides (like one big for Axis and one big one for Allies), or smaller bins for each (of the 5) nations.
Ended up buying five small bins, one for each nation and an extra one for neutral/industrial plants (from my A&A Classic), etc.
Below is a couple of examples… ended up getting 13-compartment Stack-On bin organizers from Lowes for about $3 bucks a pop. They are adjustable… I was only able to pick up 1941 today, so it looks like a ghost-town in each bin… I have room to further subdivide if/when necessary after I get 1942 later this week (had to order it, since apparently Pensacola is only good enough for stocking 1941) and my reinforcements from HBG.

Plan in action… I ordered roughly $60 worth of units from HBG to bolster all five nations (plus neutrals) of my combined 1941/1942 SE sculpts. Tried to get non-standard sculpts where possible, like US Nevada-class BBs, F4F Wildcats, Pershing tanks, Japanese Fuso and Nagato BBs, etc, etc. Was bummed they were out of stock on UK Valentines and Churchill tanks… major bummer. Just had to get more Matildas.
I ordered 16xWhite infantry, 5xWhite Stuart Light Tanks, 4xWhite P-40s from HBG to represent possible neutral countries with varying setups… I’ll toss them in an organizer and have them handy for when/if I decide to implement some Neutral nation rules for 1942 SE. Â I wanted a color that didn’t look remotely close to any other nation for neutrals.
EDIT:
and then I went back and realized they had a “neutral nation set” and I ordered a couple of those… ugh… some things aren’t listed on every page they should be! lolz
Depends on your definition of Blue Box… they almost all have some amount of blue in them.
Look at your box…
if it says “MB” in the top left corner (Milton Bradley), you have the 1980s “Axis and Allies Classic” edition.
if it says “AH” or Avalon Hill in the top right corner, you have the “Axis and Allies Revised” edition.
if it says “Spring 1942” in the top left, and “AH” in the bottom right, you have “Axis and Allies 1942” (1st edition).
if it says"1942 Second Edition" in the top left, you have the “Axis and Allies 1942” (2nd edition).
If it says “Anniversary Edition” anywhere on the box, you have a very wrong edition, please mail it to me immediately!
The “current” versions of the game are all “2nd Edition” and that’s what most people play… the 2nd edition games include:
1941
1942 Second Edition
1940 Europe Second Edition
1940 Pacific Second Edition
(1940 Global which is actually played quite a bit, is a combination of 1940 Europe and Pacific, you need to own both to play 1940 Global)
And now with the personal insults… congratulations on revealing your true self. How petty.
@Private:
Isn’t that what your avatar pic is from PP?
That’s right Hoff. Perhaps not QUITE the best film ever made, but I did watch it again a few months back and find it very entertaining.
I will say this for Galaxy Quest… if you are a fan of the original Star Trek series from the 60s (and we’re only talking the original series… if you’re unfamiliar with it, or only like the newer franchises, this does not apply to you)… then you will love the heck out of Galaxy Quest. 99% of the references in Galaxy quest either are subtlety (or not so subtlety) speaking of things common to the original ST series and/or the lore and the cast rivalries with one another after the series ended. Galaxy Quest is an homage to the original Star Trek series, but if that’s not your cup of tea, then Galaxy Quest will fall flat for you.
Quite the contrary, you seem to be the one focused on it and it is clearly setting you precariously close to a fit of rage.
“Fit of Rage”?
I don’t think Mr Fantastic could reach as far as you are with that statement. At this point, you’ve pretty much gone to the Chewbacca Defense on your rant… and no… I will not look at the monkey.
That one line from Animal House was always a favorite of mine (as a kid, I actually lived at Hickam AFB and visited Pearl Harbor frequently)… when the computer game Pacific General came out, which offered many tactical-scale battles on customizable maps with a scenario editor, I even made a “Germans attack Pearl Harbor” scenario complete with the German Kriegsmarine (Z-Plan style), with Graff Zeppelin class carriers, loaded down with carrier-capable Ju-87Cs and Me-109Ts. As completely absurd as it was, it was hilariously fun as an homage to John Belushi.
P.S.
You guys should watch Michael Bay’s Pearl Harbor if you haven’t seen it… just because it’s no Saving Private Ryan, doesn’t mean its unwatchable… at worst, you can have fun picking out the things that are wrong with it… if you like explosions, you can’t go wrong with a Michael Bay film.
Those are some great ideas Black Elk, and much more in-line with kinda what I was thinking the way it should be.
For argumentative purposes… say someone botches a neutral territory invasion (like if the Allies tried to invade Spain, but failed, or whatever)… what happens to the ‘neutral’ armies and IPC value of the territory after a failed attack? Do the armies and/or IPCs of the neutral power then go to a certain opposing player’s control at that point, or does it just sit there with whatever is left until someone conquers it? If the Allies attempt but fail to take Spain in our example, and then do not follow up anymore, is it at that point an ally of Germany? If not, can the Germans attack Spain at that point? What if they fail too? Many possibilities.
You’d have to assume if there are forces in neutrals designed to deter invasion, that they might actually stand a chance of successfully defending from such an invasion, so what would happen then?
@CWO:
was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell NO!!!
Gosh, I’d heard that the Ben Affleck movie Pearl Harbor (which I’ve never seen) had severe flaws in terms of historical accuracy, but I never knew it was that bad.
I’m surprised it took you guys that long to notice… well, to all you “Foreigners” on this board, I am a product of the American school system… just like this:
Have you ever done or thought about doing something about the lack of Neutral Nation rules in 1942 SE?
I’m an AMERICAN… but that doesn’t mean I think the war only lasted as long as we were in it… was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell NO!!!
Oh, I wasn’t expecting a top of the line, up to the minute, well-oiled, super-efficient website running machine to be in place…
I was just under the assumption SOMEONE runs this site (I don’t know who) and/or someone else might also have some tweak abilities… that something that is clearly visible on the main forum page might… just might, get updated once in 6+ years.
I will survive either way… as I’m sure others have who have been posting on this site for the past six years… I just thought it peculiar that nobody has updated something (that to me at least) seems so obviously out of date on the main forum page. It’s only been an error that’s been on the forum page as long as WWII lasted…
Y’all are still missing the point. We are talking about Action first and foremost.
I think you’ve lost all objectivity here… you’ve become so focused on one word, you’ve forgotten what else is the whole point of the thread… “action, Action, ACTION” is all you see, its all you talk about, it’s all you focus on… but you have COMPLETELY FORGOTTEN, this is a TOP 10 list… Top 10 generally refers to a GOOD MOVIE… sorry, but as many have pointed out quite correctly, Battle of the Bulge just isn’t good, and when people talk about other movies, they are trying to meet ALL the criteria, not just one. Realism, believability, acting, pacing, storyline all go into making a top-10 list.
Bad movies are just that… bad movies, no matter how much action is in them. Once again, I didn’t invent this thread, but pretty sure the ONLY criteria isn’t how much action is in the film… I think quality of the film has a little something to do with it to… all you have spoken about post after post is “does it have action? how much action does it have? Is there enough action to call it an action film? What if there’s not enough action in our action film, I think there’s not enough action to call it action, so its not actiony-enough for me, it needs more action.”
You’ve really lost all focus on the fact it’s STILL a TOP-10 list… Top-10 infers more than just crossing an action threshold, as arbitrary as that is. When people say they like or don’t like a movie for this or that reason, they’re referring to the Top-10 threshold… not the % of action that is in the film.
Maybe you should make a new thread and call it “LHoffman’s WWII Actionyist Action Films of all Actiony Time”
Well, they’re only a ‘tad’ out of date… some six+ years and nobody has updated them?
I don’t think you can just pick one or two neutrals and leave the others untouched. You’re thinking of neutrals that could impact a certain strategy, but I really think one would need an overall approach to all neutrals. There’s three major neutrals in the European theatre of operations… Spain, Sweden and Turkey… of course the South American neutrals and Mongolia.
Would probably have to think of what, if any, the IPC value of the territory is, and what kind of army would defend it in case of attack, as well as if/who it joins in case of attack. Make a neutral too weak, and its going to really mess with game strategies… make a neutral too strong, and it might as well be impassible. There’s a fine line to walk here.
I’m just really disappointed that as the “mid-difficulty” level game 1942 is in the A&A lineup, they gave it intro-level rules for A&A.
