      @Private:

      Here’s a couple of options for you Wolf:

      1. Move to the UK and join us at our quarterly Battle of Britain.

      2. Get triple A and play some of us on this forum. It’s free.

      Which seems easiest and cheapest? And if you met us you’d be glad it’s not face to face!

      Easiest and cheapest?

      3. You English folk move down across the pond to Florida… you know you want to see the sun!  :-D

      @CWO:

      YG’s Military Outposts proposal sounds a bit like the base / training camp idea that was discussed on the first page of this thread:

      http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=36518.0

      There might be some useful ideas there on terminology because “outpost” to me conveys the idea of a small, lonely distant military installation (the kind that soldiers hate being posted to, and hated even more in the days before Skype and email), not the idea of a mobilization area for infantry.

      As a 20 year military veteran and big student of WWII history, I concur the “Military Outpost” is a bit of a misnomer. Perhaps call it what it is… “Military Base” or “Military Depot”.

      What Country do you have the most fun time playing? My favorite is the U.K.

      Man, that’s hard… they all have their upsides… well except one… if there’s one country I find BORING to play, it’s the USSR.

      @Narvik:

      OK, so how about German infantry defend on 3 or less in Italian territories ?

      While i’m not a big fan of changing base stats, if one feels a need to do Infantry defending at 3, I would say Germans in mainland Italy is believable, since (mountains) and there’s no terrain rules in A&A… it would kinda kill two birds with one stone (German occupation of Italy and tenacious mountain defensive lines).

    • RE: Industrial Production Chips BACK IN STOCK

      @IWillNeverGrowUp:

      The default set was originally made when AA50th came out and it has generally worked well for us with that (save when someone is hoarding, of course). Unfortunately, changing the amounts included would throw off the cost as well. We are looking at it though.

      Well, the default set (with optional 5x25 IP chips) is 25x1’s, 15x5’s, 10x10’s and 5x25’s… if I may be so bold, if you’re going to adjust the default set, i’d say at least toss in five more 10’s and five more 25’s, then increase the price of the default set accordingly (especially since the 25’s are optional anyways).  If you’re set on your price point, maybe drop five 1’s for five more 10s and keep the price the same.

      Anyways, thanks again for the great customer support!

    • Why are OOB ANZAC sculpts (SE) 12 feet tall?

      Okay… I don’t play Global, and I don’t play the 1940 games… but I thought i’d go ahead and pickup some OOB Chinese, Italian and ANZAC sculpts from HBG just for a little flavor in 1941 and 1942 (controlled by the host countries of US, Germany and UK respectively).

      Now I had no problem with the Chinese and Italians… but dang… after getting the ANZAC Aussie infantry… this came to mind:

      Buying bread from a man in Brussels
      He was six-foot-four and full of muscles
      I said, “Do you speak-a my language?”
      He just smiled and gave me a Vegemite sandwich
      And he said
      I come from a land down under
      Where beer does flow and men chunder

      ZOMG… why are Aussies OOB infantry so damn tall?  They literally tower over all other infantry and make all other infantry look like Lilliputians.  This one isn’t HBG’s fault… how could the OOB units be so damn off-scale to all other OOB units?  Oh well… guess i’ll be sticking with Chinese and Italians… I can’t stomach 12-foot tall Aussies.

      @Narvik:

      Italian infantry defend on 3 or less in Italian homeland

      Lets be honest, Italians quickly surrendered when the Italian Homeland was threatened (they called it quits after Sicily)… the royalists and moderates were done, it was only the Fascists that fought on after Sicily (after the German occupation), so I don’t see any historical reasoning to put a “Infantry defends at 3 in Italy” rule in… plenty of other nations were far more tenacious defending the homeland then Italians were. While there was plenty of bitter fighting on the Italian mainland, it was mostly due to German defenders in mountains than tenacious Italian willpower.

      Its hard to give Italy a solid NO because frankly, on the whole, they did not perform very well in the war.

      Well if its nothing against the soldiers, might want to rename the NO… maybe call it “Advancing in a different direction”.

      The material I used to print on was called styrene just to be clear, it was recommended by the printer but it was expensive and easily replaceable by adhesive vinyl for all it does.

      Ya, my bad… Pyrene, Styrene… I’m dislexic or something.

      @seancb:

      Do not drink too much during a gaming session. Especially a weekend match. Excessive alcohol consumption leads to waking up and not remembering how your armies got in such bad position. If your opponent was inebriated more than you were, you could wake up and find the opposite and be in very good shape. It’s 50/50!! I recommend that Fireball whisky never be invited to the gaming table.

      I always try and keep my sessions realistic… if you are going to play the Russians, I make you drink Vodka before each turn… America? Whiskey… UK? Ale… Germany? Schnapps… Japan? Saki…

      As the designated driver for my games, I seem to be sweeping the contests…

      @IWillNeverGrowUp:

      Email us at sales@iwillnevergrowup.com with what you want and we’ll see if we can work something out. We MAY have some spare 10’s around that aren’t already in full sets (I’ll check when I get the chance to).

      Just wanted to say after playing a couple of games (of even 1942), the ten-10s and five-25’s I had on-hand from the default set were always running short (especially if any nation held onto their IPCs)… I was able to order another ten 10s and five 25s to double my high-value chips (the default set provides plenty of 1s and 5s), and am now very happy with my Reserve Bank of IP chips.

      Thanks IWNGU for the great customer service.

    • RE: The importance of victory cities

      I’m not sure spawning Infantry in every VC each turn makes a lot of sense historically (as a population/recruitment center)… what looks good on paper in Berlin, London and Washington sure seems right, but when you start thinking of tiny Honolulu or a Japanese controlled Manila or Shanghai, I don’t really see tons of Philippinos or Chinese flocking to the Japanese banner. What looks good in Europe, can look really shaky in some places in the PTO.

      It could work GAMEPLAY wise, but some serious sense of historical disbelief would have to be factored in.

    • RE: Random Thoughts about the game…

      @CWO:

      I’d actually argue for sharper colour distinctions between the various countries, not more muted ones. Depending on the lighting conditions in which one is playing (bluish daylight, reddish incandescent light or greenish fluorescent light), the sculpt colours can vary quite a bit in appearance and they’re not always easily distinguishable. On the positive side, the current colour differentiation is a lot better than it was in the original Milton Bradley game, and so its the clarity of the colours; in the M-B edition, the American sculpts were issued in a murky greenish-brown that looked neither green nor brown.

      Well, I’m not necessarily saying Tan for UK and Darker Tan for ANZAC, or Black for Germany and Light Black for Italy… I’m just saying, both Italy and ANZAC in SE have stand-out colors, I’m just saying they should have been swapped to be in the same “spectrum” as their bigger backers… the current ANZAC Grey could not possibly be confused for German Black, but it’s in the same spectrum (shades of grey/black), and current Italian Brown is nothing like UK Tan… but if it were ANZAC’s color, it would be in the same spectrum with the UK (Tan and Brown).

      They still stand out, but stay in the same spectrum as their major power backer.

    • RE: Italians have no factories?

      @Private:

      Hi Wolf. I would suggest that the axis have the advantage on this board w/out an Italian factory, so giving them one unbalances the game further. In particular the UK’s very limited build capacity in India & Australia makes fulfilling its global role very difficult, even without having to contest Africa and the Med.

      Having given the UK almost a free ride in Africa, I think the game designers compensated by rendering its ipc value as almost zilch.

      So if house ruling an Italian factory in then house rule in some compensating allied advantage - for example a 2 ipc value/capacity in India.

      Alright… let me think this one through…

      By your own admission… the UK gets a free ride in a worthless Africa…

      The only perceived “advantage” to the Germans getting an IC in Italy would be to build/up the Italian fleet and/or invade the acknowledged worthless Africa.

      As a previous response in this thread hinted, maybe the lack of an IC in Italy is to prevent a new German player from wasting resources building a fleet in the med instead of pushing into Russia.

      So… the “advantage” to the Germans of having an IC in Italy would be to spend what limited resources Germany has in 1941 to build/up the Italian fleet, build extra units for the transports of this fleet, and invade and overwhelm a known worthless Africa (all the while ignoring spending against Russia).

      In my opinion, the Jedi are evil… oh wait, wrong context… what I mean to say is, in my opinion, building an IC in Italy probably does nerf Germany and buff the Allies if it’s going to cause the German player to divert from Russia to spend all his money building a fleet to take a worthless Africa. I’m not seeing how this would be a bad thing to game balance?

      (I’m beginning to see a pattern here… Private Panic, a known Englishman, is always seeking an angle to give a buff to the UK player…  :-D )

    • RE: Italians have no factories?

      Well Russia, the UK and US all have multiple ICs… so if they’re aiming for a “don’t want to overload the players with options” angle, they failed on 3 out of 5.

      Personally, I’m just going to start tossing an IC in Italy for future 1941 games… I see no reason why there shouldn’t be one there… my point was that I found it odd it’s not there by default.  Larry should come here and explain himself!
