    • RE: Axis & Allies 1942 Game Board Size

I have printed 2 copies of IL’s map, both on my home printer.  The first on plain 8 1/2 x 11 paper, poster style.  I just glued them all together and i figure it cost me about $6.00 in ink and paper.  I didnt mount this version or anything…i just fold it up as a cheap travel map.  It works very well, but its not “super pretty”    The second I printed in the same fashion on better paper and then mounted.  Much prettier, and cost me less than 20.00.  Both versions turn the 30.00 aa 1942 game I bought into a very playable enjoyable situation (map wise)–it always was gameplay wise.  :-D

So to make a long story short–Buy 1942 (the pieces and gameplay are great) and print a version of IL’s map.

      THANK YOU IL !!!

    • RE: Axis & Allies 1942 Game Board Size

It really is unplayable.  Europe is about the only completely unplayable area, but that is where so much of the play occurs.  If they were going to make the map so small, they should have blown up europe out of proportion to the rest of the map.  It may have not been as asthetically appealing, but would have been much more playable.

    • RE: Storage for all of A&A42 370 Pieces

I use some clear, divided craft boxes that I found at Wal-mart (In the craft dept).  Everything fits back in the original box.  The lid doesnt seat all the way down, but far enough that everything is secure unless you swing it around wildly.  If I get a chance I will add a pic.

    • RE: The perfect game…

I believe the perfect game is one where everyone has a good time!  What fun is it to work out the perfect formula that works 100 percent of the time.  Or what fun is a perfectly balanced game where if everyone does everything 100 percent correct it always ends in a draw.   If that is what we wanted, we would all spend 10 hours playing tic tac toe instead of AA. LOL.  I am not that good, but getting better all the time and I ALWAYS enjoy playing and trying new things.  Sometimes I have to be happy with my own personal victory instead of destroying my opponent.  I can be very happy delaying the win of a superior opponent instead of falling to him in round 4-5.  :)  As long as there are dice rolls and human opponents we always have a chance to win and can ALWAYS choose to have a great time.

    • RE: Sub vs Sub one on one combat

I think your interpretation is probably correct, but……
on page 30 it states, “submersible: A submarine has the option of submerging. It can do this anytime it would otherwise roll the die to fire…” Without paying very close attention to what you just quoted, this statement by itself would make it seem as if 1st the attacker when it would normally roll an attact could choose to either roll or submerge, and then the defender when it would normally roll to defend could choose to either defend or submerge.  I think the rule book contradicts itself a bit here.  Thanks for the point out.

Show me where I am wrong, but wouldnt the subs have to undergo 1 round of combat before submerging?

    • RE: AA 1942 IPC Tracking

It is a modified spring 42 map designed by Imperious leader that I downloaded and printed.  It is bigger, making my gameplay a little less cramped :).  The chart at the bottom is just a homemade chart that takes up less space and counts higher than the original.

Good idea on the marker with an x instead of something that can easily get knocked over.  I’m also thinking about magnetising the chart and markers so they arent as easily displaced by a passing arm ar wiff of air.

    • RE: Is this game worth buying?

I really enjoy it!  It still has the AA look and feel (you get to move cool little figures around on a map).  I enjoy the combat resolution (the defender doesnt get to pick what gets destroyed.  I also like how combat doesnt always in with one or the other 100 percent victorious (sometimes you clear a hex and destroy the enemy, sometimes they are just forced to retreat, sometimes you dont do anything)  I Also like keeping troops supplied.

In short it is a fun, two player game that can be completed in a couple of hours.  There is still enough strategy and luck combined to keep the game interesting.  It’s not AA, but it is fun!

    • AA 1942 IPC Tracking

I am playing with a simple track method that uses a chart instead of paper IPC or recording on pen and paper.  This is a very simple non finalized chart, so forgive the unpolished look.
Basically, you mark the IPC production level with the country’s disc, and you mark how many IPC’s the country actually has with an infantry piece or antother handy marker.  When you recieve or spen IPC’s simply move the infantry piece to mark it.  It is also usefull to track how much you are spending when purchasing units.  This is particularly usefull to new players or the mathematically challenged.  The following pic shows Russia’s first purchase is progress.  Note the infantry sitting on top of the marker at space 24, showing how much Ipc the country is startin with.  Then I add 1 infantry back 3 spaces to denote how much Ipc I have left and then a chip 3 more back to indicate another inf, all the way down to the tank.  At the end of the phase you would move the marker infantry to 1, showing that Russia has 1 IPC left.
      What do you think?

    • RE: Game Map ( an alternative )

Exactly!  The picture I posted really doesnt do it justice.  The angle I took the pic at makes the paste lines from my 8 1/2 x 11 sheets really show up, when in actuality you really dont notice them from a normal game play angle.  Gives me that 250.00 gameplay experience for well under 40.00 total.    THANKS AGAIN

    • RE: Game Map ( an alternative )

Thank you thank you thank you, Imperious Leader.

I recently purchased 1942 after playing years of 1984 Gamemaster version.  I Love the gameplay of 42, the units, the dynamics, etc…  The no paper IPC thing is not a major deal, I dont care about the battle strip as opposed to a full battleboard, but my bigest problem was a cramped map.  I downloaded Iperious Leader’s map file, did a quick cheap print on some card stock and am very happy.  It improves my enjoyment of the game 10 fold!  I didn’t do a full size printout, as it wouldn’t fit on the table I commonly use, but the size I printed is perfect for me.  Everyone have fun and keep on battln.
