    • RE: Q: amphibious assault w/o supporting naval units

@snurkert Evening Snurkert. If you did not specify that any Air was in the sea zone, protecting the Transport, then the scrambling Fighter would get one one shot at 4 to sink your Transport and the carried ground units . If he misses, you can retreat back one sea zone fro which you came. The Air units would still have to attack London, of course. But could retreat after one round.
Did you forget that your UK opponent could scramble to prevent the amphibious landing?
      Enjoy your game.

@ABWorsham4 that is annoying for you .
I have never had the skill; did many as a child (loved it) and don’t have the vision for it now too.
I used to collect D&D miniatures too, but I paid for someone else to paint them !

    • RE: How many players from the 80s and 90s have we here?

@nolimit I was one of those idiots that binned my first A&A game too. Didn’t want to piss off my wife with all the new games I had bought ij the 90s.
      Hate myself!
I had so many fun evenings in our shared student kitchen playing with it my last year at university.

    • RE: Axis and Allies North Africa announced!

@reloader-1 not Stalingrad, as I like Tanks; not a static defence battle. Although, the nasty Russians did smash the Italian 8th and Hungarian 2nd Armies, so if that were to be represented, that would have swayed me somewhat. And who wouldn’t want to try (as Manstein) and save Paulus?

Would have to say : Eastern Front .
I love the whole Market Garden op too.
      Good and hard choices.

    • WW2 Generals’ November birthdays

I knew it was Ronmel’s birthday around now, so I looked it up. As it happens, I was two days out. He was born on the 15th (1891).
What surprised me was that his nemesis, Monty, was also born in November. He was born on the 17th (1887).
Manstein was the 24th (1887 like Monty) . Patton was the 11th Anderson the oldest of them (born in 1885).
My Italian grandfather was November 11th too. But he only made Corporal!

    • RE: Favorite Christmas Gift

@ABWorsham4 I saw this had a new post , so read it , meaning to post . Then read one that sounded like my best ever gift, only to realise it was me; that I was reading from 5 years ago!
      Thanks for the reminder guys.
My 7 year old has been playing with my soldiers from the 70’s (the 1-29 scale ones ) for 2 years now. Makes me So happy to see .
My best friend , with whom I played those soldiers every week, died of a brain tumour when he was 14.
I thought of him yesterday. Funny how things come full circle.

@lenerask good day and welcome to the forum.
My daughter is 11 and isn’t interested in playing, but my 5 year old has seen me playing on line and now plays a little.
I have high hopes he will be my second partner, after my wife (who only plays me once a year now).

I am afraid the liberated IC cannot be used until the following turn.

    • RE: On this day during W.W. 2

@captainwalker Villers Bocage is a sleepy old town. Had to go and sit there and drink a beer, thinking of that famous day and his exploits. The British column. and the 7th as a whole, were totally paralyzed by his actions that day. Well worth reading about it.

      @Panther sorry to hear that.
I see a Dutch member here has received his, so hope you won’t have to wait long.

I really like it. Although, I wish Italy was allowed to buy , or start with, a Battleship . Seems a bit mean!

      Morning Worsham.
I think I was 8, or something like that.
I woke up to find Father Christmas (my grandad)had left me a castle at the foot of my bed. It was unpacked (and constructed) and there were hundreds of Airfix 1-72 scale soldiers in and out of it. Not sure how long I played in my room.
