I am going to sell my AA50 game and unfortunately I have lost a UK fighter. The Pacific (not pac40) fighters are the wrong color. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the AA42 UK fighters are identical to the AA50 fighters. Also are the AA42 dice the same as the AA50 dice? I also have lost one of the black dice and I am wondering if the black dice from 1942 edition would work.

Are the 1942 UK fighters the same?

Is the pac40 board larger?
Is the Pac40 board alone larger than the AA50 board?

RE: Heavy Bombers - FAQ change and other options
I would stick with 2 dice (or maybe 2@3). This pick best is just ridiculous. Seriously, the more and more errata (and “FAQ” - lol) they add, the worse the game becomes.

RE: What qualities make a great A&A player?
The one and ONLY quality that makes a GREAT axis and allies player is ….
One who has fun playing, win or lose.
Well said. Though I disagree with the only part.
I might add, ingenuity. Even if the move isn’t the best, if the opponent has never seen it before, he might not know how to counter.
Also what are pcs?

RE: Is there an official FAQ that ruins heavies?
Well seeing as it is (fortunately) not on the Avalon Hill site, it shouldn’t be taken as official FAQ (at least not yet :P). That change would be about as ridiculous as the one that nerfs improved factories.

RE: AA50 3-D Terrain Gaming Table (COMPLETED July 20, 2010)
Also I think Japan SZ is SZ 60 not 62.

Is there an official FAQ that ruins heavies?
I was wondering if there is an official FAQ that makes heavies worthless. I know there is a Larry Harris FAQ, but is there one that is official for tournaments and such?
If there is, can someone provide a link please.

RE: Let there be Oil
Interesting. It sounds similar to settlers of catan but still very different.

RE: Can Damaged Battleship's bombard
Which is interesting since damaged carriers become scrap metal.

RE: Axis or Allies
I almost took USA. I could have easily if I had waited 1 more turn but to not be cruel to the allies player I just took UK and ended it.

RE: Does Monopoly Jr Suck?
We used to have Monopoly Jr. It is lame. (Though we still have some of the colored hotels - nice for the strange variants we used to play) Plus we kept some of the red ones, which is also nice since the game doesn’t come with enough hotels if you know what I mean :-D.

RE: Winning Chess Strategy
I like to play chess. Unfortunately, I don’t find too many people good at chess to play . I would like to know what is good when it gets down to kings and pawns though. I don’t really know all these fancy names. I generally play with a partial pyramid with a castle to protect the king. I used to play full pyramid but I find that it leaves to king too vulnerable.

RE: New odds calc for AAAE
Actually you are wrong. The official FAQ/errata says nothing about heavy bombers. That is just the Larry Harris Bandaid fix.

Do units start in the Beachhead boxes?
I have played a few times (I have a lot of A&A games so I don’t play D-Day that often), but from something I read it sounds like the allies start with units in their beachhead boxes. Is this true? If so, this would help some of the balance issues.

A couple transport questions
#1 Using LHTR rules if there is a transport that started the turn with 2 inf aboard, Can you unload 1 inf in combat and the other in noncombat (same territory).?
#2 If a transport was forced to retreat from an amphibious assault, can it unload in noncombat move (units were loaded in combat move)? - LHTR rules as well. -
RE: Statistics help
@LT04:
I love this topic but I have a quick question…
Why doesn’t the math work both ways? What I mean by that is if you steepen the curve with your attack hits to get the “average” hits instead of the “expected” hits why doesn’t the same rule apply when calculating the enemy defense hits?
That would make your estimate a lot more conservative.
LT
I does do the same with defense hits. It is just that in the scenario he mentioned there was only 1 unit so the odds are simple - 33%. If there were more units in defense you would have to do the same thing. However, generally there are more attacking units than defending units, because the attacker would not do a battle that he would lose. So, this makes the number of hits the defender gets roughly the average since the attacker almost always has => the defender units.

RE: Good Logistics?
The counter strategy is don’t play with good logistics. If the US players plays it turn 1 and turns out 22 suplies, you are dead. End of story.

RE: Making Airbases Required for Flight/Landing
At the same time, lowering Planes use on the ground and probably making Bomber all godly (since they have huge range)
Really? I would think that it would make the bomber worse. All this rule would do would be to make all planes have to be carrier based. That pretty much kills the bomber. Also, due to the limited range of fighters/tac bombers, they are already not very effective on islands (unless there is an air base). So implementing this rule would hurt bombers more because they are the ones that actually use the islands.

RE: Whats the weirdest out come you ever had in AAR
I was playing AARe (a variant of AAR - mainly adjusted techs and NAs) Germany destroyed the allies fleets and japan was dominating on the mainland. The allied player conceded when he realized he would lose London.

Do transports count?
If I must designate where my carriers go when I send my planes, I believe I am allowed to assume I win all battles with no losses. Does that mean I can attack a SZ with only a transport so if I win (which I can’t) my Carrier would be able to move through and provide a landing place for the fighters?
This would make no logical sense, but if it is in the rules, that’s great.
