      @idk_iam_swiss:

      None? my grandparents ONLY play if I include the paratrooper house rule. and I always ignore that rule that you lose all your money if a victory city is taken.

      Wow that’s awesome your grandparents play. Was wondering if your from Europe (iam swiss) and they have a first hand experience. If that’s the case I would think they see this game in a whole other light.

      Hey Swiss heres a +1 for you . I agree Japan has much to gain in AA40P if it goes after China early (earns more $ and keeps US at bay) . There will be about $12 in China. Japan may even have an NO tied to china, as it was one of its expansion goals in the war.

      I saw it with my son last month late after work. It was great, Hogans Heroish in parts. Only thing I don’t care for was the sub titles. I know they spoke German but I hate sub titles.

      You’ll have to help China, The same as in AA50. Spare a few Russian or UK tanks/ftrs so you get some higher def roles to go with those China men, Hold your ground, you have to work as a team. Make it so if they break your line that they don’t have much left, so they’re not much of a threat when they (Japan) get to Russia. If you lose the Chinese inf though run like hell.

      @Krieghund:

      The fighter isn’t replaceable because the pilots were all American volunteers.  The group was organized and established as military aid to China several months before the US entered the war.  After the US entered the war, all pilots were needed for the US armed forces.

      Technically, the unit shouldn’t even be in the game before the end of 1941, as that’s when it was actually activated.  However, that wouldn’t be much fun, would it?

      I just hope the flying tiger is protected better then in AA50, and Japan can’t kill it before you can use it. If I screw up and lose it then so be it. In AA50 we either slightly change set up to protect it, or allow the US to replace it once if its lost in the 1st round by flying a new one over(takes about 3 rounds) if China is still in the game at that point.

      From what I remember China can only buy inf. It can also buy art but only if the Burma road is in ally hands(open). So any time the Burma road is open you should buy art, and make sure you keep the flying tiger safe, as I don’t think it is replaceable.

    • RE: AA50 Tips & Tricks

      I have thought about the Red October and at different times considered naval units in the Black sea, just didn’t do it. I’ll have to experiment with that. IT could come in handy using Russian sea strat, as I hope Russia has some naval presence in AA40. Persia sounds like it could work too. If you did lose it the enemy would have a hard time keeping it, only producing 1 unit per round and all.
      Larry said the Middle East will be worth more in AA40 (oil). I wonder if your Persian strat will become more mainstream, with some 2 ipc tt there (minor IC). Unless he was talking about some kind of Middle East NO bonus.

    • RE: What if I dont want to do it larrys way?

      @maverick_76:

      If you think of it this way, Germany took territory that basically was double the size of Germany. And they were still about 100 Km from Moscow when the winter hit. Depending on how many territories Larry wants to put in between, I would say 3-6 territories in a straight shot from Berlin to Moscow. The distance is about 900 miles, so 3-6 seems like a good number, and allows Germany to be at Russia’s capital within 2 to 3 turns.

      quote from Larry:
      Aaah…ok Emperor_Taiki… there are 6 territories between Berlin and Stalingrad. Could not help myself… I just had to tell you.
      I would think it would also be 6 tt between Berlin and Moscow. So it could take up to 6 rounds to get there. Germany will most likely start with some forces already in between however (Poland etc). Italy should also be able to can opener a few countries allowing Germany to blitz with its tanks/mech inf. So it could be like the 4th round or so for a full assault on Moscow.

    • RE: Carriers

      @Brain:

      Thanks for the answer on the airbase a +1 to you.
      But a mobility problem is better than no ship because it is sunk.

      I agree but I just wanted to point out that it will be bitter/sweet

      @maverick_76:

      I still don’t think super stacks will be viable. If Japan takes all of her ships over to the Hawaiian islands then that will leave room for ANZAC to come from the South. I really think the board will be too big for a stalemate to occur.

      I think your right, there will be many more smaller sea battles at the same time because of the larger spaces and more nations. I also think you have the potential for smaller fleets and a lot of air units coming together at these island bases to set up def as the enemy converges its many resources to the same area. Hopefully NO’s and convoy’s will help keep fleets a little spread out. After all its all about the green$$$

      @Brain:

      How could running back to port be worse than being sunk?

      I didn’t say it would be worse then getting sunk. I’m saying if you choose to take the hit it will limit your defenses and most likely force you to retreat. This would surely hamper your mobility. It could also cost you plane.
      @Brain:

      What advantage does an airbase give you in the game? We were already allowed to land anywhere.

      Now if you land on an island w/airbase any of the ftr & tac bmr on that island can def the surrounding sz just like they were on a carrier.

    • RE: Carriers

      I also think that the island base unfortunately may promote super stacks. Think about it. Japan starts toward the US with a rather large fleet. The US has a medium size fleet it moves to Hawaii. Japan also brings in a secondary fleet to help from the Solomons. The US builds 3 or 4 fighters on west coast. Japan inches closer for the kill. US flies its fighters to Hawaii (island base) Now your at a stand off as neither power has an advantage. Before you had to have multiple carriers to protect your fleet, now you can just move to safety and bring in more planes. I don’t know does an air base have a limit to how many air units it can hold. Its just like trying to take Moscow and those damn Brits keep flying fighters over.

    • RE: Carriers

      @Andy_Dandy:

      You all forget an important point about why the carriers really should cost 18. Remember that airports are introduced, making floating and mobile airports even more powerful and useful. Do you want to build a static airport, or are the money better invested in a floating one? All the choices we get. :)

      Andy I would think the other way on this. An island with an airbase and a port will be a powerful weapon. You will be able to have multiple air units and many more of them. You also won’t have to worry about where to land because you got dinged. It will also def your fleet just like it was a carrier. All the def capabilities of these island bases are still not known. I just remember in revised when America got the island bases NA it was pretty cool, and it didn’t have any of this other stuff. Don’t get me wrong I will still buy carriers, for mobility, but I wouldn’t think that should raise the price because they could always move. If anything the second hit that it gets is going to cause it to lose some of its mobility as it will be running back to port all the time.

      @Veqryn:

      well, 14 or 15 ipcs is even better in my mind, so i agree with that IL,
      i just think that Larry won’t do it, since he has said it will cost 18, have 2 hitpoints, can’t land planes if hit

      Veqryn
      When did Larry say the cost of a carrier is going to $18. I don’t remember seeing it in his posts. I have even done a search.
      Can anyone clear this up for me.  :?

      "But Larry should make the US a beast in the economy department, we equaled the entire world in steel production at the start of the war and were outproducing it by the end of the war, the US should have an income that should almost equal the Axis all by itself. "

      Ahh Yea the good old days when America actually had a manufacturing core. Thanks NAFTA.

    • RE: Carriers

      Just think of all the changes you are looking to do for carriers all together.

      1)Increase the cost to 17 or 18 ipc
      2)Lower its def value to 1 (some are calling for 0)
      3)Stop its ability to land planes on it if its damaged (per Larry) which also lowers is ability to def itself and the fleet even more.
      4)Giving it 2 hits w/strings attached

      At this point I’m not sure carriers are a good buy (thats why they lowered them in AA50). I could maybe go for have it def at 2 normally, and reduce its def value in half (1) if it is damaged (along with similar changes to the BB). I would also like to Larry allow you to land one air unit on a damaged carrier (don’t know if this is etched in stone yet).

      All I’m saying is that if you are at sea and are attacked. Would you absorb a hit w/carrier knowing that it could cost you a plane or 2 or maybe more. This would also reduce the def of the entire fleet as I normally like to build a diversified fleet. Remember you will have other enemies that could 1-2 punch you before you can rebuild/repair.

      Like I said its going to take like 5 rounds or more to get to Moscow. By then the French & English will be power houses on your back door. They will also be able to kick the Italians out of Africa by then. The only problem the allies will have is should I take Rome 1st or Berlin.

      I think if you just keep a token force on the west and go straight for Russia, you could be in trouble. There will be many more tt between German forces and Moscow (I think at least 6). You will not only allow France to keep building (very dangerous) but also allow the UK to get a better foot hold on Europe. If France and UK build the new tac bmr they could blitz Berlin (it will be fairly close). That would be different!

    • RE: Carriers

      Thats why the defense should not be lowered. If you are defending and manage to keep it alive with no fighters to protect it you could be attacked again before you can limp it back to port on your turn. Now just because you can’t put your planes back on the carrier in this game, it doesn’t mean it has no defenses. It could still have some air units that would launch even if they are not shown.
