    • RE: The Dutch, Canadians, & French

Wow Japan could get another 8 ipc or so w/Russian tt.

      Quotes from Krieghund re Dutch:

      1. All I can say right now is that the Netherlands isn’t an autonomous power and it’s not part of the UK.

      2. OK, here’s a hint: they won’t be a neutral, and they won’t be an autonomous power.

      3. No, ANZAC is a separate power.

There is not much left, I wonder if the Dutch in AA40P will just be there own units(color). You won’t be able to add to them so once they’re gone they’re gone. This doesn’t make sense because when liberated who gets them (ipc’s). They would have to go to either UK or Anzac right. You wouldn’t want US to liberate them to get more ipc’s.

Yea Larry has mentioned the short comings of China in AA50. I figure that was just a test run as they had to be already working on AA40 (or at least the concept) at the time. I’m sure they will get it right this time. I also think that at some point in the future (when he’s not so busy) that he will give us an alternate set up for China in AA50 based on the new info.

    • RE: France

Welcome Xzorn, as Swiss pointed out some of your post is already determined for AA40Europe.
I do think Larry put the Paris territory next to the German boarder so France would fall early. You wouldn’t want it to take 2-3 turns because then Paris wouldn’t fall til 1941 (6 month turns). You also wouldn’t want the allies to be able to liberate Paris easily either (on the coast) need to keep it land locked for game play.
I gave you +1 karma just for contributing, keep it up.

    • RE: Rules for subs in AAP40

The only thing I would possibly like to see change is the one DD sees all subs thing. Thats kinda lame, and there is defiantly room for improvement there. Radar/sonar should be in the tech tree, until you develop this tech you should have very limited detection.

Dido that, convoy zones will be a subfest or sub feast if you prefer. It should add something the sea’s have been lacking, giving subs a much bigger role.

    • RE: Will the Atlantic and Pacific in AA40 Global be balanced

I think the problem with the axis was its inability to finish one phase and just jump into the next phase. Its like they had a detailed plan or time line, but if somethings didn’t go on schedule they would just go to the next item on the list anyway.
      1939 (fall)      Poland            ck
      1940 (spring)  Norw/Neth/Belg ck
      1940 (summer) France            ck
1940 (fall)      England ok we’ll come back to that one
1941 (spring)  Russia  ok we’ll come back to that one
1941 (Winter)  USA      oh sh*t what have we done

Once England didn’t fit into their schedule things went south, I’m just thankful for Hitlers impatience.

Of coarse time is the essence just like when you play AA the axis have a better chance if things go their way early on.

It just annoys the hell out of me when my planes keep falling off my carriers. I think I might drill two holes in my carriers and put pegs in it. Then drill a small hole in my air units so they sit on the peg. I’ve heard other people say it works.

I agree 100% art needs a boost defensively to keep its place in the game, especially with the new units introduced.

Besides fighting against Japan, China was in the middle of a civil war. The Nationalist (KMT) and the Communist (CCP). The US supported the KMT with a ton of military equipment including the flying tigers through the lend lease program in WWII. The conflict took quite a toll on the KMT and left them weaker, as much of the fighting against Japan was done in KMT territory. The CCP communist grew in size and strength. Ultimately the CCP took over after the war with influence from Russia. The KMT fled mainland China to Taiwan were it still governs. I don’t really know if the US could have stopped the communist take over but it does seem like we abandoned an ally. Today we have a lot of ties with China but most of that is recent development over the last 20 years. Imagine if China was more democratic. There is also that fear of China siding with the North Koreans in an Asian conflict. I would think that China would have to much to lose economically, but who knows stranger things have happened.

      Sorry got way off topic.

    • RE: France

I believe (correct me if I’m wrong) Vichy was neutral and didn’t declare war on the allies it just stopped fighting the axis. I know that Vichy forces were placed under German control and defended against allied invasions though, so its very murky. I know Larry is going to want the game to follow history so there could be something to insure Germany/Italy will indeed invade and conquer France. I wonder if there will be some kind of incentive/NO for the axis to take all of France in the 1st or 2nd round. Maybe something like certain Vichy French colonies become pro axis neutrals instead of Free French territories. This would be a way for Larry to deal with the whole Vichy/free French thing. Just a though it could be way off base.

Larry already said Iraq will be pro axis and Iran (Persia) will be pro allies he thinks. The Middle East will be carved up into many more tt so Syria could be there and it should be under Vichy French rule but more likely a pro axis neutral as Vichy won’t be represented in the game. I would also think other Vichy French colonies may be handled this way.

UK/US liberated France, and Invaded Italy & W. Germany to keep Russia out. They new that the new fight was going to be against Communism. Unfortunately they dropped the ball when it came to China.

Krieg could you clarify what stat bombers will be able to do.
I would think they will SBR as always (with escorts).
I would think they will be allowed to attack ground units.
Will they be able to attack sea units.

    • RE: China and what should be done with it

Yea most typical in AA50"41" would be for Italy to take Ukraine (maybe amphib). This would allow German tanks on Bulgaria or E.Poland to blitz into Caucaus. The only power that goes between is US and they normally wouldn’t have troops in the area to stop it unless its later in the game.

    • RE: China and what should be done with it

Of coarse if Russia went between Italy and Germany (as it does in AA50"42")then it could stop it normally. Then Germany would have to “can open” for Italy which won’t be as effective.

    • RE: China and what should be done with it

Can opener is when Italy moves in before Germany. Italy “opens” a weakly def tt (takes it and holds it) which will allow Germany to blitz tanks (and mech inf) through to hit Russia on its turn. This method would also allow you to take tt with Italy then move in with your German ground and air units for better def w/air. You can “can opener” with any friendly power, but Italy/Germany seem to work very well together.
