I was thinking maybe hit Phil J1 on your way to India. It would bring US in US1, but you can kill $42 worth of US units on Phil, get a NO bonus $5 (and US looses theirs) also set the stage to take the rest of the $ islands rd #2 (giving you NO bonuses and taking them away from the allies). You also push hard into Asia/China rd #! & #2. J3 destroy trapped UK fleet and 1-2 punch India. You’ll also be getting some NB along the way. With your back door closed now you can focus on a growing Anzac, and a monster USA.
You could skip hitting Phil on your way to India, but those air units will come back to haunt you!

Thanks for the feed back, very cool. I have mine set up and will play tomorrow night. Looking at set up I was thinking (if Japan) you have to go for Asia early, maybe push south and try to take out India.
Most people are saying to tiptoe around the US, so you don’t bring them into the war. Maybe even try to sucker UK/Anzac into attacking you first so you can fight them while still keeping the USA out.
I’m wondering if you should just nail the Philippines rd #1. Yea the US would get a $40 bonus(for two rds), but they should loose $42 worth of stuff there + 2IPC’s for the tt and 5IPC’s for there NO (for many rds), that’s $49+. You should have minimal causalities if you hit it hard and there is no AA gun. You can also start taking the $ islands rd #1. The bulk of you fleet will now be south to take the other money islands rd #2 (+ the NO bonus). You will also be in position to trap the UK fleet, and maybe crush it, all the while your still pushing through China in Asia, on your way to India. You may want to build a minor IC on the Asian coast. When your at the Philippines they won’t know if your going south to Australia, or west to India. Keep them guessing. If you can take out the UK that closes your back door. It also permanently closes the Burma road, and will be easier to finish off China. The Anzac will be growing and the US will be a monster, but your income will also bee on the rise with tt gain & NO’s (65-70 I’m guessing). Of coarse you should start building fleet at home right away because the US will be coming. Make sure you can meet them with plenty of air power, and use your new ports (thanks UK) to hop around quicker.
Couple things I noticed with the set up.
How many empty air strips the US has that are at Japans disposal. You have Guam, Midway, and Wake all start undefended. Also that the Philippines has no AB or NB.
Then Japan basically gets a free port at Kwangtung. Malaya comes with a port, and the UK will most likely be forced to back down if Japan heads that way early.
Ceylon (island off Indian coast) could be a good place for an AB to help protect the UK fleet in sz 39.
I also used all the Japanese tac bmrs that came with it, and some are chipped.
Yea I’m not crazy about the card board. I will probably borrow a few things from my AA50 game. I used a few plastic AA guns in the picture, instead of the card board ones that came with it. I thought about gluing the card board IC’s to the top of a real IC. If you line it up with one of the ribs on top at an angle it looks ok, and you can still tell by the # (3 or 10) what size it is.

I got mine tonight at a not so local hobby shop (the one closer to my house wouldn’t release it early). I think it was worth the trip. Now I can set it up, and review the rules tonight, and start a game tomorrow.
Rd#1 Germany will drop France like it is supposed to, and set up its attack to the east with its purchases.
I think what was intended for Japan to do rd #1 is attack China (it was there in 1940), take FIC and just set up your attacks/defense for rd #2. Remember that an attack on UK, Anzac, Dutch, Philippines, or Hawaii will result in US declaring war, and getting that 50 IPC income early. Japan really doesn’t want that rd #1.
It does how ever want to provoke the UK/Anzac to attack it so then Japan can retaliate without bringing the US into the war.
rd#2 Germany could attack Russia (Barbarossa) but might not be ready keeping in mind that much of its force will be in France. At this point we don’t know, Barbarossa might not happen til rd #3. I think Japan could fill its commitments in the pacific rd #2 or rd #3. So the historical time could fall into place but doesn’t necessarily have to. I think that the delay for Japan may represent the political aspects your talking about, its like they are negotiating to keep the US out as long as possible, but inevitably there will be war.
This is 1940 so Germany should get 1 BB to represent its capital ships at the time. It should also get at least one cruiser a DD or two and a bunch of subs. I wonder if any of the islands in the Danish straights or the Baltic sea will be in the game. Would be pretty cool to have an air base there so the Luftwaffe could protect your fleet, as by rule an AB can’t scramble unless its on an island. Maybe there will be a tech to address this.

You get an AB & NB on the Caroline islands at set up along with a ton of ships in the area. All you need to do is transport more ground units in, and you’ll get your wish.
Regarding the non aggresion pact:
I’m not saying that Japan should have went full force against Russia in Siberia, they only needed to start minor skirmishes to keep the Russian guessing. The axis had discussions about a 2 front Russian assault, its documented. It took Stalin 2 weeks to absorb the fact the his buddy Hitler stabbed him in the back, if the Japs came at him too it might have really sent him over the edge. The Siberian reserves were a big part of the counter attacks later when the tide turned. If Stalin was fighting a 2 front war (even if the Asian side was only a decoy) its safe to say there wouldn’t have been as much of a Russian counter punch. Remember the axis time table was for Russia to fall before the US got involved. Of coarse England was supposed to fall before Russia was attacked too. And if Hitler was a woman she’d be really ugly.

Uh… no? A submarine cannot end its movement in a sea zone occupied by a destroyer. A submarine cannot go through an enemy fleet that has a destroyer
Well if the turn sequence is the same as AA50 then it could.
Example UK convoy zone off coast of England. German sub in zone (survived battle) UK mobilizes its new units before it collects income right. It now places its new DD in the same sz. Next phase collect income/pay convoy’s. My question is if a sub submerged does it still cause damage.

I like that thought Raz, but in this game you can also upgrade your minor IC to major IC (would be rare). So it kinda throws a wrench into that theory. I still would have liked to see new factory sculpts, but I will live w/o it. I would have liked a mobile AA gun unit also but I guess I will just improvise. Its not so bad.

I wonder if there will be an imp fact tech in the Euro/global version. That could be pretty sweet. It would be much easier w/o any complaints about doubling capacity or can’t SBR it to zero junk that changed the original tech to include only IC’s on 3 IPC tt. With the 2 sizes of complexes in would be pretty simple. Major IC +2 (12 units), minor IC +1 (4 units). No problems because IC can only be built on 2 IPC tt or more. On a 2 IPC tt you raise its capasity by 33%, and you can bomb it in to the stone age (-2). Normally if bombed to -2, you would have to pay $3 to place 1 unit. $4 would allow you to place all 3 units (full cap). W/imp fact tech +1 for minors, you would have to pay just $2 (get to zero) to place 1 unit. I think that’s pretty good it still cost you $ to build. Plus I liked the remove damaged chips at 1/2 price.
