    • RE: What will be wrong with AAAE: 1940?

      Wow!! I would have thought that the release date got moved back or something as hostile as this group is. So maybe its not perfect. There is no way in hell they could have maid everyone in this forum happy. We’ll all buy both games (at least one copy each) we’ll play it a bunch of times for years to come. We’ll check the Errata weakly, and tweak it to fit what we want. The map/board seems to be done right, and that’s the important part.  The rest will fall into place. Damn you sound like a bunch of little bitches get over yourselves, it is what it is.

      Ok here comes all the Karma.

    • RE: Strategy Poll: Where to place Japan's first IC ?

      I think a minor IC in Kwang would be best (could upgrade later). Of coarse you would be playing an aggressive Japan. With Kwang having a NB already is a big (15 IPC) bonus. This would allow you to drop ships, or mech inf/tanks in Asia (very helpful). You could also build an AB on Formosa to protect ships in that coastal sz, and you can also launch Kami’s there. If you are in the global game then Manchuria should also get a miner to push into Russia.  I say minor for Manchuria because if by some weird twist of fate you loose it then because its Chinese it would go by by. 12 IPC’s would be a loss, 30 IPC’s would be ouch!

    • RE: AA 40 Pacific Setup Pictures

      @allboxcars:

      ERRATA TO SET-UP :cry:

      OK great pics  8-)
      BUT apparently there should be:
      1. a naval base and an air base in the PHI,
      2. No NZ IC and
      3. the New South Wales IC should be a minor IC.

      Still great pics and thanks for posting them!!

      @WILD:

      Couple things I noticed with the set up.

      How many empty air strips the US has that are at Japans disposal. You have Guam, Midway, and Wake all start undefended. Also that the Philippines has no AB or NB.

      Yea, I posted that the Phil having no AB/NB was strange. I’m glad it was fixed in the Errata. I was surprised when the Anzac IC’s got nerfed. Although it might work to there advantage with Japan not being able to SBR them to 20 damage. Do they really build more then 3 units anyway. I was liking the NZ minor IC though, but if you loose Australia (capitol) you can’t build on NZ anyway. So maybe its a good change as well.

    • RE: Scramble from airbases

      By the way you can put an AB on Ceylon to protect your Indian (UK) fleet. I think that New Zealand will prove to be more important as time goes on because of its AB (last stand) with the US coming over to assist. The US will try to keep Japan from being on there side of the map. If Japan does come over then after Hawaii, yea US is in trouble, but has like 50 IPC’s that’s a lot of inf to go with your fighters. If the allies are attacking Japan itself then that means Japans has lost most of its holdings, its income would be very low. The AB kinda levels things out. With that said I hope there is an exception for the UK in the Euro side. With their advanced radar and the RAF they should be able to scramble. I also think it would be a cool tech for all AB to scramble even into adjacent land tt. It might be to powerful though.

    • RE: Question about Political Situation

      Vareel,
      I did mention we were exploring different tactics. I have seen Japan be very patient trying to get UK to attack them. This game I wanted to see how things worked out w/aggressive Japan. You are 100% right the learning curve for the allies is normally much longer. We still haven’t had time to finish this game (past rd #4) so it might even turn out to be a bad strat this game, but for now things seem to be going my way. Both sides have made mistakes (to be expected). I never said it was a fool proof always win axis tactic. I can see the pro’s/con’s of a patient vs aggressive Japan. I think the best part about AA games is the first couple of games you play, nothing is scripted.

    • RE: Rules Q&A

      When this game (Pacific) opens I guess it is assumed that Paris is still in French control, or at least in the negotiation phase. Vichy at this point has not yet been established. I know that it all happens at about the same time. The fact that Japan can just walk in and take FIC with out a fight reflects the situation at the time I think. As for the other French colonies that will be in the Euro side, you will know exactly when Paris falls. I hope some of those colonies stay free french, but I hope others become pro-axis neutrals. Some of the French colonies might even start off as pro-axis neuts to make the political situation easier. This would reflect the Vichy forces, and the fact that the allies had to fight their way into Vichy tt. It seems like there will be more political rules for AA40E, regarding France/US. There are also pro-axis/pro-ally neutral rules to deal with that we don’t know much about. Pacific only deals with Mongolia that isn’t leaning either way (for game purpose anyway). Attacking these neutrals may have consequences.

    • RE: Tokyo express?

      No there is no Tokyo Express. Maybe in the global game w/tech, but I doubt it. Larry has also kinda shot down any type of National Advantages for each power, but maybe he will change his mind. I think DD should be allowed to carry 1 inf, as most powers did it during the war. Japan obviously, UK at Dunkirk, I think Italy used DD transport in the Med also.

    • RE: China

      Its been tough for Japan to keep the Burma rd closed off and on (in my short experience). You can attack and close it rd #1 but they counter to re open. Japan has a lot of ground in Asia, but it takes a little while to get them organized. China gets hordes of inf/art (great for the game) Japan has to take them seriously, and use its air power.

    • RE: Question about Political Situation

      I agree with Japan invites the US into war rd1. Kill Phil (US), Kwang (UK), and start invading China. I did this as Japan (we are in the 4rd rd) and it seems to be working. I have also moved into some of the Dutch Isles. It messes up the allies NO’s while you start to get yours. I placed a minor IC on Kwang (which also comes w/NB) to help with the China/UK push. The UK attacked some planes I had left alone in China (ouch) but it ended up costing UK there tiny fleet. I haven’t done much about the Anzac, and they are growing their air force. US has now moved to Hawaii (rather large force), but I am building an AB on Okinawa (and will def til the death), where I have about 1/3 of my fleet (the rest not to far) with a bunch of ftrs to scramble with my new AB. If the US attacks, I can live with the damage because it’s mostly my cheap ships (1/3 of my fleet), and will take him longer to recover even w/income boost.

      Attacking the US rd1 kills a lot of US units (Phil), and doesn’t handy cap what you can do to UK/Dutch. The US still starts with 17 IPC on its first turn. US gets the 40 IPC bonus in its collect income phase (end of its turn). Rd2 US buys units w/new income (about 55 IPC’s lost Phil) and mob. It doesn’t  really get the full benefit until its 3rd turn as far as accusal units on the board that it can use. The best part about attacking US/UK rd1 is you can throw all the political rules out the window, because they no longer apply. Both sides have made mistakes, but were having a great time exploring.

    • RE: Rules Q&A

      One more quick question about Sumatra (or any Dutch Isle) once US is in the war, can they take ownership of Dutch if no one else has, or can they only liberate it from Japan (taking ownership). I would think they could simply invade it once at war like the UK or Anzac if it is still Dutch, but I’ve been wrong before.

    • RE: Question about Political Situation

      No according to Krieg a neutral power (that is what US is if not at war) can’t move units into any other powers tt. They can however share sea zones if they move there during non combat. At least that is my understanding.

    • RE: Manchuria in the Global game

      Well they didn’t make them zero(Russian eastern tt), but there are more of the 1 IPC tt then there was in AA50. My hope is that if Japan won’t be able to go with a typical march across Russia til it gets to Moscow, because the US and other Pacific allies will be knocking at the door in Tokyo Bay asking if Tojo can come out and play.

      I thought about drilling two holes in the carrier and then one in the ftr & tac bmr. Then using a peg to keep them on it. Ftrs were hard enough to keep on, but the tac’s (nice sculpt by the way) are nearly impossible. Maybe I’ll try magnets, I’ve heard they work well.

    • RE: Manchuria in the Global game

      In the global game, Russia might be added to the don’t attack or the USA will kick you a$$ pact. So it could be incentive to keep Japan out for a couple rounds anyway. That would put us right around the time of Barbarossa (round #3). This is 1940, and we get to rewrite history so if Germany can convince Japan to hit Russia’s back door then so be it! There might be some kind of political rule stating that Japan can’t attack Russia till after Germany dose.

      From what I remember Larry said Russia isn’t really ready for war early on so I can’t see them attacking Japan when they know Germany will be coming hard soon. Larry’s fix to the Rus/Jap non aggression pact is to just put a ton of 1 IPC tt between Manchuria and Moscow. With mech inf out of the box there might be a 2-3 round political delay like I mention above.

      @Stoney229:

      @Vareel:

      My question is, lets say on US1/AN1 they both moved boats into the same SZ, and UK attacked japan starting war.  IF japan were to attack the SZ containing US/AN units would the US units fight or just be there but do nothing?  I’m assuming the later.

      I think that’s a good question.  Perhaps japan chooses if (s)he is attacking both or just AN.

      still curious to know the answer to Vareel’s question.  any ideas?

      I would think that if Japan attacks a sz it attacks the entire sz. So if US ships are there then that’s a declaration of war on the US.

    • RE: 1940…

      At first I thought attacking Phil might be a good move rd #1 so you can kill the US ftr & bmr. It’s now my understanding that if you leave Phil alone those US air units can’t seek refuge in Anzac or UK tt. They can’t get far (Guam or bmr to Wake) so you could delay hitting the US until rd#2 and still get them. This would also delay the US from it’s extra $40 one more turn.

      @Vareel:

      @Krupp:

      A few quick questions im confused about.

      1. Can a Minor IC be built on any land territory regardless of IPC value?Only a major may be built on a territory with a IPC value of 3 correct?

      2.Without declaring war can i as japan on J1 move a fleet to SZ35 which contains American surface ships?I dont want to attack,i just want them there for j2.

      EDIT: 3- WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM damage a minor and major IC can take each?

      Thank you.

      1. Value must be atleast 2 IPCs to build a minor
      2. Yes
      3. Double production value, so 6 and 20.

      Lets look closer at #2.
      “2.Without declaring war can i as japan on J1 move a fleet to SZ35 which contains American surface ships?I dont want to attack,i just want them there for j2.”
      On page # 8 of the rule book, it explains
      Friendly vs hostel sz. Its pretty cut and dry, but it doesn’t say if a neutral power’s surface ships make it friendly or hostel however. It does say on pg #8 under " The Political Situation" (referring to Japan) that combat movement against Britts, Dutch, Anzac, or American territories, troops, or ships will bring all of the Allied powers into the war. In Japans combat move it could ignore the US transport I think, but if that US DD is there, I think there would be a battle, and all will be at war. I believe Japan could move there in its non combat move however. From what I gather Krieg will address this in a faq at some point. He already said (not in rules) that US can’t move its units into UK or Anzac, or Dutch tt unless its in the war war. The flip side would be that UK, Anzac can’t reinforce US positions either. It sounds like this won’t spill over to the sz, as any powers ships can share sz if they are not at war, as long as they move there in non combat. Kinda weird, I’m not sure you would want to be sharing to much with Japan, unless you are tying to provoke them into war.
