    • RE: Japan and Industrial Complex

      @knp7765:

Interesting point guys. I had never thought of it that way. Most of the time when Japan comes for Calcutta, they come very “air heavy” and those planes can’t help them defend. Simply move the British stack out, let Japan move in with what land units they have there, then pounce on them and take Calcutta back. After that, in all likelihood, Japan will have little to no ground troops around and you will have made their big air force almost useless (at least for retaking Calcutta, that is).
I can also see where a large British stack could be useful in claiming/reinforcing the Middle East and helping out the Russians or defending Cairo. Although, it seems like they might be followed by the army of angry Japanese that took Calcutta, plus anything that Japan builds with it’s new factory in Calcutta.

You mentioned extra troops from UK Europe. Perhaps we are not playing UK right, but usually UK Europe has it’s hands full keeping Italy in check and trying to sting Germany somewhere. In fact, there is rarely any collaboration between UK Europe and UK Pacific in our games. Sometimes, if it doesn’t look like Japan is threatening Calcutta, UK Pacific will make some planes and fly them over to help in the Med, but otherwise the two sides are pretty much separate. They each seem to have too much going on in their own theater to try helping the other side. I mean, if UK Europe sends stuff over to help out India, won’t that make them weak against Italy? If Italy is played right, all they need is that one shot where UK is a little weaker than normal and they end up spreading like a plague throughout Africa.

I agree with you 100% on making Italy weeks early off and fast. To help Calcuta if needed

My typical move as England (if there is no Sealion) destroy the Italain Destroyer and there Transport. Non combat move over my entire navy to the French destroyer and Cruser and bring that extra cruser off Gibralter to my Combined fleet also while I’m doing that I remove my Tactical bomber and place the two fighters from Gibralter and Malta for added dice roll at 4.
I place the tactical in Egypt move all my units from Alxandria to Egypt because the bulk of the Italian army won’t be able to make it to Egypt even with the (2 transports that Italy has 2 crusers and 1 battleship and 1 Stratigic bomber it won’t be able to make a dent in Egypt. The 1 transport I have I move my 1 guy below Egypt (can’t think of the teratory) but below Egypt to Iraq for 2more Ipc and 3 men. I place a Ic in Egypt. Build a fighter in South Africa and a tank there aswell and Force Italy to deal with that looming Britsh navy in the meditranian with a combined power of 1 carrier with 2 fighter planes 3 crusers and 2 destroyers.
This gives England enough firepower that when Italy moves into Alxandria. Englad can desamate the entire land army in Africa.

I’m pretty sure everyone’s Calcutas Round 1 is basicaly standerd so no need to write up

But yes this is how I deal with Italy esentualy what eve they choose to do Ill either destroy there Entire navy or put them in a position for me to take them out Enland round 2

      Ok that sounds wonderful!

Now do I roll for all French teratorys at once or each one separately?

Now also what’s this free French and how dose that work? Is there a chance tha I can roll not Vichy but free Vichy and France falls back to the allies?

Sorry just the rules are a little foggy and don’t truely clarify it for me.

My opening buy is 1 Ic in shantung and 2 Transports with Japan. Most people do this, but it all depends on what your going for  some buy 3 transport as there round 1 buy and don’t buy Ic until later. Personal I’d like to know I can put boots on the ground Early and fast.

    • Vichy France how dose it work?

So I sat down and read the rules and re-read the rules and I’m a bit foggy on how Vichy works?

So when Paris falls. I get the choice to
Continue my attack on France or roll for Vichy what’s the benifits for having Vichy set up weather it be free or not?

Just a little clarification please :)

      @Young:

My comment may be off topic, but I never understood those German officers off playing war games during D-day when they were already involved in a real war.

Training while you sleep your enemy is training to kill you.
Just cause your in a war traning never stops. You allways implement new tactics that your enemy is using agenst you.so you stay a head!

    • RE: I have lost russia turn 5 for the last 4 games in a row….

      This last week

We had a group of guys 2v2 I took my partner and said were gonna go for the cheesest win in AA history.

Germany didn’t do Barbarossa till round 3 first round buy was 3 tanks 1 art and destroyer and second since I had 68 Ipcs I bought 22 Infantry and roud 3 with 49 I got 8 tanks and pushed which helped cause I wanted to make sure of no Russian counter.

Now this is the cheesy part with Japan the first 2 rounds I got 2 small Industrial complexes and took all 3 transports and ferried over as many troops I can for Round 2 push two push into Russia the rest as Japan went as usual cut the berms road push into china a little but the main point was not to go to war with England and America for 3 rounds. It didn’t become apparent America and England until round 3 what I was doing and by then it was to late. I consolidated all my troops in Japan got an airfield for Korea. And kept pushing into Russia hard needless to say.

Russia fell. I think round 7 and Japan was at the Russian door absolutly cut them in half and while Japan on the pacific didn’t accomplish all it’s objectives it dosnt matter when Germany has the bulk of its army left to push into Calcuta or else where.

Like I said cheesy but it was effective keeping America out of the game till round 4. By then it’s just to late.

    • RE: My Germany's Round 1 Set up

Then I have options :) anything from going for novagorod from the north from the Baltic I can attack there navy with a combined Airforce navy. I can hunt them down with any left over subs and ships case and surround them in the meditranian.
Not only that England can not leave a threat like that at the door . With the possablility of a Sealion it has to address the situation or be doomed. So it forces England to some how neutralize it .
It’s still a cheaper investment then spending 16 IPC for a carrier seaking simmler results

Plus the enemy’s eyes are focused away from
Africa and what Italy might do

Basicaly it gives me options on what and were I wanna go.

Again there’s really no wrong way to go about it but f you play the same people over and over it gives them a shock as far as how to react.

Which again wouldn’t bother me since I didn’t invest much into it 8ipc is worth te price to wipe out the Britsh navy and Airforce while I commited the bulk of my money to tanks and 1 Artilary

      Again I have 1 rolling at 2
      1 rolling at 3
And 4 rolling at 4 with a free soaking hit ill still come out on top dependin on how much of the Airforce England lost G1

    • RE: My Germany's Round 1 Set up

Which is what I want cause I have 4 units defending at a factor of 4 with a battle ship to soak 1 hit and my fodder being the destroyer and cruser.

So basicaly round 1 I would have taken out the entire navy of England with minimal loss’s on my end.

It’s the reason that England looks so strong at 110 with 3 planes defending and a battleship and 2 crusers this way the odds are on my side.

Remember England dosnt know if I’m doing a Sealion or not and this set up gives trm something that they can not over look.

    • RE: My Germany's Round 1 Set up

I feel the odds for that are slightly over rated while if you choose to scramble 4 planes and knowing that I would only do 1 round attack and see how the match stands. I highly disagree that after the first dice roll all of England’s fighters hit. I see 2 hits with a possablitys of 3 at max that’s if your lucky

I still have my subs from 106 to make it back for Germany round 3

Also if you were to move all your ships to save them from which is smart I must add I didn’t think of that there’s  2 factors

One Italy’s navy and Stratigic bomber  while it won’t destroy the navy it will do its part to slow you down

G2 I can use te destroyer and the cruser as blockers for a Sealion for a G3 invasion.

Yougoslavia I feel is moot it’s not cost effective in troops and havin them at out place for it I’d rather give it to Italy. Exspecialy if I was doing a Sealion I’d need all the German troop to repel.

I did forgot to mention the fighter to Rome that’s a standerd :p

Also any French ships left would be taken out in G2
Any planes scrambled from England would be worth the price shot down in defense.

France might be an over kill as far as units but I still can take Southern France with 3 tanks from Southern Germany and a Tactical bomber

This will give the Italian fighter planes a place to land

Earlyer I mentioned Holland I did non combat a AA to there in defense of the fighters there if England did try to attack again at this point it would favor me.

2 Infantry to Norway from Denmark
      Buys

1 Destroyer placed in sea zone 112
3 tanks to be placed in Germany
1 Artiliary to be placed in Germany

Any questions on why I did what I did please ask I like this way cause it forced GB to attack my ships and gives me the option to attack Novgrad from 2 diffrent locations or GB if it’s left open

I don’t buy planes until Getmany has Novgorod cause I need to keep my army big in fear of a Russian Counter

When I do take Novgorod I tend to buy Tanks there until I’m close to push into Russia then I swap to Tactical Bombers to match my tanks

Again I like this set up cause I can still swap to a hard Sealion or really make a push into Russia depending on what my counter parts do next.

    • RE: No 1940 Third Edition Plans For Now

      @rjpeters70:

Cold War would be much harder to develop.

      1. The elephant in the room, nuclear weapons.  You had devices ranging in size from 1Kt to 63Mt.  You had delivery ranges from 5 miles to 13,000 miles.

      2. Timing:  Which Cold War would you play?  the one in 1950, where the Warsaw Pact grossly outnumbered NATO conventionally, but NATO had a small bomber delivered nuclear force?  The one in 1962, which had enormous amounts of nuclear weapons on both sides, but a more significant advantage to the NATO side on range?  The one in 1984, with mutually assured destruction, and a qualitatively superior (but quantitatively inferior) conventional NATO force?

Ultimately, my fear is that which ever side was losing the conventional fight, they’d resort to nuclear weapons very quickly (which is why there never was a World War III between NATO and WP).  The most important thing to figure out would be nuclear combat in an A&A Cold War game.

63 Mt your crazy :p largest ever detonated was 56! Which was a scaled down version of 100mt and was air delivered! Crazy right?!

There can be game rules limiting it to round 8 you can use it or just after a nuclear salvo and both sides are limmited to only a few left and have to rebuild.

The only thing tha would limit it is ones imagination right? I’m sure with some time and thought invested it could be Ironed out right?

Or something like how Kamakazies are used in 1940 only a set amount on the table who knows lol
