I haven’t played PTV … is the game mechanically similar enough that a person with a good PTV record is likely to have a good OOB/BM3 record?

Or conversely, is there any player who’s very sucessful at PTV but very poor at OOB/BM3?

    • RE: Common bid elements?

In league play here I’d say the most common bid elements (other than fighter Scotland) are:

      ANZAC infantry New Guinea
      UK submarine SZ91, SZ98, SZ106, SZ110, and/or SZ111
UK infantry or artillery Anglo-Egyptian Sudan

      To a lesser extent:
      Chinese artillery Szechwan and/or Kweichow
UK infantry in Alexandria and/or Egypt
Soviet artillery Amur and adjacent territories

(For Balanced Mod players: add UK marine India to the list)

    • RE: Find League Opponents Thread

I’ve been gone for awhile and want to pick up a game or two. I guess BM3 and bid for sides.

Fair warning, I haven’t touched the game in over a year, so I am pretty rusty right now.

@marshmallowofwar said in Common bid elements?:

Just so are all aware, the ANZAC infantry in New Guinea is not a legal bid.

      Marsh

In face-to-face games at home or play by forum games on this website, bid parameters are whatever players agree. Although I do acknowledge that it lies outside the suggested defaults for our league here.

It wouldn’t surprise me if other venues have fixed bid rules, but you may want to specify.

Were you offering me a shot at Moscow on purpose by the way?

I can’t tell if that was bait or not.

Also, I’m a bit perplexed by what’s happening in the Pacific Ocean.

Flawless 2-round strafe on Transjordan. My British whiff 12@2 and 2@3.

Only a 0.01% chance of Italians escaping with no casualties.

      @Me1945:

      Combat Move - Italians
                  Battle in Trans-Jordan
                      Italians attack with 1 artillery, 1 bomber, 1 fighter, 4 infantry and 1 tactical_bomber
                      British defend with 1 armour, 1 artillery, 4 infantry and 2 mech_infantrys
                          Italians roll dice for 1 artillery, 1 bomber, 1 fighter, 4 infantry and 1 tactical_bomber in Trans-Jordan, round 2 :  2/8 hits
                          British roll dice for 1 armour, 1 artillery, 4 infantry and 2 mech_infantrys in Trans-Jordan, round 2 :  0/8 hits
2 infantry owned by the British lost in Trans-Jordan
                          Italians roll dice for 1 artillery, 1 bomber, 1 fighter, 4 infantry and 1 tactical_bomber in Trans-Jordan, round 3 :  4/8 hits
                          British roll dice for 1 armour, 1 artillery, 2 infantry and 2 mech_infantrys in Trans-Jordan, round 3 :  0/6 hits
2 infantry owned by the British and 2 mech_infantrys owned by the British lost in Trans-Jordan
1 artillery owned by the Italians and 4 infantry owned by the Italians retreated to Iraq
British win with 1 armour and 1 artillery remaining. Battle score for attacker is 20
Casualties for British: 4 infantry and 2 mech_infantrys

Seems the purchase-edit didn’t make it in there. I can change it, if you want. Just need directions.

Oh, I was posting unedited first, because frankly, this kind of edit is outside what most folks would allow.

I mean, I’m probably losing anyways in the Pacific theatre, because my Allied play needs a lot of polishing. :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing:

      @Amon-Sul said in L21 Amon-Sul (Axis) vs Pejon_88 (Allies + 16):

so just to know for future games…

      1. if u hadnt declared war to Japan with Russia, U couldnt pick up Mongolian dudes with Russia?

      2. But could U pick it up with (other) allies?

      3. And could U pick it up with Russia without declaring war to Japan, once USA and UK are allied to Russia?

All of the following answers apply with the state of this game for Russia’s 3rd turn:

      1. Correct because without doing so, Russia would not be at a state of war with Japan that turn
      2. Correct (with the exception of China, which has its own restrictions)
      3. Incorrect. Russia MUST be in a state of war with Japan to move any of its units to non-Russian territory on the Pacific map.

Below I’ve quoted the relevant bits from the rules, in case that helps.

Page 35 [Europe 1940 Rulebook, 2nd ed.] rules:

The Soviet Union, due to its separate treaties with Germany and Japan, was in a unique position in its relationship with the Axis powers. As a result, if the Soviet Union is at war with Axis powers on only one map, it is still under the restrictions of being a neutral power (see Powers That Begin the Game Neutral, pg. 15) on the other map. In other words, a state of war with Japan lifts those restrictions from the USSR on the Pacific map only, and a state of war with Germany and/or Italy lifts those restrictions on the Europe map only.

      From page 15:

Neutral Powers: When a power is not at war with anyone, it is neutral. Powers that begin the game
neutral, such as the United States and the Soviet Union, aren’t initially part of the Allies or the Axis. The
Axis powers are on the opposite side of these neutral powers, but they are not yet considered enemies.
While a power remains neutral, it operates under even tighter restrictions. A neutral power can’t move
land or air units into or through neutral territories. It can’t move units into or through territories or onto
ships belonging to another power or use another power’s naval bases, nor can another power move
land or air units into or through its territories or onto its ships or use its naval bases.

I copy-pasted the turn details out from View Turn Summary in tripleA and uploaded the map direct to the forum since tripleA can’t post to the forum itself since the update.

Interesting start to the playoffs … I think the Allies (Ghostglider, trulpen, JDOW) are looking strong in the G40 matches.

I don’t know enough to judge the PTV game between Adams514 and regularkid.

Very tight game economically … nice to see Italians not limited to can-opening and Soviets not limited to turtling :slightly_smiling_face:
