Don’t mind me…I’m an idiot
It must have been the reference to “Queen” of the Desert that threw you. :-D

It’s not in my rulebook, but I do remember reading that. I think DF is right – attacker gets 120 points, defender gets 80, but the objective is placed by the defender on the DEFENDER’S side of the map. So, basically, the attack has to go GET the objective from the defender. I like!
Please add the Panzer IV Ausf. F2 – from the 1939-1945 set
Here it is:
"It was 18 August 1941 and an offensive by the 8th German Panzer Division was expected by the Soviet commanders. The Soviets were desperately trying to blunt the German assault. A lone KV-1 (number 864) commanded by Lt.Kolobanov was given orders to defend the road from Kinigsep near the town of Krasnogvardeysk, in the Leningrad area. The tank commander had selected a position on a wooded hillside overlooking a cross road surrounded by swamp and had dug in and camouflaged itself. Four more KVs were nearby defending other roads. All the tanks have been issued double ammunition loads, two thirds of which are armor piercing rounds.
The next day, German motorcycle recon troops, a halftrack and one light track passed the tank’s position. Five minutes later, a column of 43 tanks appeared and filled the road. The KV-1 fired and the first round caused the lead German tank to explode into flames. Two shots later, the second tank in the column was in flames as well. Kolobanov then opened fire on the rear of the column and managed to destroy the last tank in the column. The Germans were now boxed in by the burning wreckage and the marshy ground surrounding the road.
Unable to spot the Soviet tank, the remaining German armor opened fire, shooting blindly into the woods. Some of the German tanks tried to withdraw but many of them got bogged down in the surrounding swamp. While the German column was in chaos, the Soviet KV-1 destroyed 22 enemy tanks in 30 minutes. Eventually the KV-1 was spotted but the German guns failed to penetrate thick KV’s armor. The impacting rounds made life inside the tank extremely difficult for the Soviet crew. After a German round struck the turret ring, Kolobanov’s tank was forced to leave its entrenchment and maneuver the entire tank in order to aim.
The Soviets noted two German towed guns which had been deployed during the battle on the crossroad. Kolbanov’s first shot disabled one gun, but the other gun managed to fire one shot and damage the KV’s periscope before it too was destroyed. Ammo almost gone, Kolobanov was ordered to withdraw as three more KV-1s were sent to relieve tank 864. The three KVs manage to finish off the remainder of the German column. A total of 42 German tanks and two guns were destroyed. Kolobonav’s tank sustains 135 hits but not one round managed to penetrate the Soviet tank. Lt. Kolobonaov was awarded the Order of Lenin and Usov."
Who says those Soviets don’t know how to fight?
That’s interesting. Those Soviets were tough! They have another scenario on the A-H website based on a true story where ONE KV-1 tank killed something like 20 German tanks in 30 minutes or something crazy like that. I’ll see if I can find the quote.
Wow, that’s a slug-fest. Quick question – no Soviet tanks?
DF, this isn’t exactly on point, but maybe it’ll give you a few ideas. It’s a link to the A-H Scenarios based on the battle of Kursk. They had one based on Stalingrad, but it didn’t look that fun, frankly.
Two questions: (1) is there a higher version than 1.3.20? and (2) what do I do if I already deleted the old map files?
Mot, I downloaded the new maps, but I don’t see the new units. :| What am I doing wrong? :?
I’ve had the same problem with the maps.
Also, please add the Panzer IV Ausf. F2 (1939-1945 set) to my wish list.
I concur with adding the Ranger :-D I love US units, in case no one noticed.
DF, you should try playing online with us. Mot has adapted the game to Mapview and it works great! You are also not limited by the pieces you actually own – you can build an army with any pieces you want, provided they are in the Sets Mot currently supports – Set I and Set II. I’ve played two games so far, and it’s been a blast.
I’m thinking they should be ordered more like troops, then artillery, then vehicles myself. If I’m looking for a tank, I don’t want to have to remember that the “Rhino” is actually under “V” for Veteran. That’s already an issue with the Minis Database, at least for me.
Just to be clear, you did an AWESOME job making Mapview support this game, Mot. The dice thing was not a complaint, just a suggestion to make the game even better. But as it is, it works remarkably well.
Correction – it’s a Quad 50 and it’s in the 1939-1945 set. It’d be a good addition since the Americans don’t currently have a machine gun unit in Sets I or II. (That’s why I had to use a Vickers in our current game).
Can you add a feature to “Clear all Dice Rolls” icons just like the button for “Clear All Arrows”. The dice rolls are just as much a headache to clean up as the arrows, frankly. I’m no programmer, so I’m not sure how hard that’d be. But I’ve noticed that particular issue.
As for units, my first request would be the Quad 60. I’m not sure what set that’s from.
There would be no benefit to picking Huckabee. Huckabee’s appeal is limited to the Bible Belt. Republicans have had a lock on that for years. Huckabees ultra-religious message will also not sit well with moderates and independents.
The only way Mccain can win this is if the Democrats implode and kill themselves at a brokered convention, ala 1968.
Well, it’s looking more like 1968 every day that goes by. I don’t see Hillary quietly fading into the night if Obama continues his current momentum. She still has hooks in a substantial number of superdelegates, and she has a BUNCH of delegates potentially available from Florida and Michigan that are not currently being counted that collectively might be enough to put her over the top. I can easily see a scenario where neither Obama nor Clinton has won a majority of delegates going into the convention, which sets the stage for a fight to count the Florida and Michigan votes. And, a la Gore in 2000, Hillary will cast herself as on the side of the “people” trying to make sure every vote is counted, when all she really wants is every vote FOR HER counted.
But that said, I’m not sure I agree the general election is a slam dunk for either Obama or Clinton. McCain is a formidable general election candidate, make no mistake. The hard part for him has always been getting by the red-meat right wingers in the party in order to secure the Republican nomination. Barring a major catastrophe, that appears to be all but a foregone conclusion, as Huckabee is running out of “Bible Belt” states to win, Texas being the notable exception.
@Imperious:
Huckleberry is not Romney’s surrogate presidential candidate. Romney was the only conservatives choice left and now the bottom dropped out. To balance the ticket i suspect McCain will get a real conservative, who will win a state that counts like New York or California
Ummm, IL, news flash – California and New York are BLUE STATES that will not go Republican this cycle – or are very unlikely to do so. Certainly, adding a conservative will NOT help in those states. Exhibit A – The “Governator’s” about-face on all issues on which he was still a conservative.
Adding Huckabee, on the other hand, WILL help McCain in the South, where McCain is more likely to win IF he can carry enough of the evangelical vote, which happens to be Huckabee’s strength.
SO NCSCSWITCH LISTEN UP!!! THIS IS ME EATING CROW! I THINK YOU ARE CORRECT THAT HUCKABEE IS THE LIKELY RUNNING MATE FOR MCCAIN. I just wanted to get that out there before the bandwagon left the station. :-D
I guess Jenn will be voting Democratic – Romney announced he is quitting.
