A&A Global 40 Silouettesposted in Customizations
I was wondering if anyone knew where I might be able to find digital 1940 silhouette unit images, like the ones on the purchase units chart or even the battle board. I have an idea to put the said images and the # of units of each type right in the country that they are first placed at the beginning of the game to drastically reduce set up times. Any help or leads would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks. HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!!!

@Tall:
Toblerone77,
––I’d be quite happy to see your latest paint jobs. All of us inspire each other, not to mention we get to enjoy someone else’s cool paint jobs. As a matter of fact, LHoffman should be posting pics of the German aircraft ‘prototypes’ today or tomorrow on his thread. I’ll be looking forward to seeing your newest units.
“Tall Paul”
I tried painting the bases of my Infantry units, but after countless fails (maybe too much coffee. Or, too little. I dunno its a VERY fine line) i gave up. I may go back and do the air craft (I am thinking it may be an easier start to get the ball rolling) but only after i magnetise the ACC’s and the corresponding fighters and Tac bombers for Global 40.

RE: Axis and Allies Europe 1940 2nd Edition ( AAE40.2) FAQ/questionposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
You’ve got it right, your friends have their logic backwards. All islands are territories, but not all territories are islands. They might be recalling the rule that Industrial Complexes cannot be built on islands (Japan is the exception) and extending it to all structures, but you actually can build air/naval bases on islands.
Thanks Col Carter

RE: Axis and Allies Europe 1940 2nd Edition ( AAE40.2) FAQ/questionposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
Can air bases be built on islands? I believe they can be. I have had countless debates (more like arguments) with other players (majority on the losing end), that they cant be. Although you do begin the game with said bases already on islands (Iceland, Carolines, Hawaii, Midway etc) it is argued that these are the exceptions and that you can not erect air bases on islands (not being tactically advantageous has never came up in our debates). The rules state the “Air bases can be built on any controlled territory.” Again, the argument is that An Island is not a Territory (Kind of like the all thumbs are fingers, but fingers are not thumbs)
Anyone care to be the mediator here?

RE: Axis and Allies Europe 1940 - Strategiesposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
OOB, AA guns didnt come with my game (nor did it come with the cardboard/paper ones like in the 1st edition) Rules say that they are automatically on any industrial complex placed on the board (whether from the start, or built at a later time), but you cant purchase and place them like other units, much like in prior A&A versions. They aren’t even under the “Unit Profiles” pages of the rule book. Instead there are AntiAircraft Artillery (AAA) that only get to fire once when defending a space that is being attacked. Each AAA rolls a max of 3 die, or 1 dice for each attacking aircraft (which ever is less) before the conduct combat phase (any aircraft hit must be removed immediately and can not take part in the combat phases to follow). Not like the prior AA guns that get to fire 1 dice for each enemy planes that were simply flying through zone containing an AA.
Am I mistaken?
And sorry that my post is misplaced. I do realize now that this is a Strategies topic

RE: Global 2nd edition Q+A ( AAG40.2)posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
UK is the attacker in this scenerio.Rules don’t allow a friendly power to participate in your attack. That’s what I think.
Right. The fleet is not defending against a scramble, the scramble is the deffense against the attack.
In this scenario, if Germany scrambles then the attack is not allowed. No ships are sunk, no dice are rolled, no combat takes place.
yup true, the scramble is the defender. AND, the amphibious assault is coming from Land units not controlling any of the naval ships in the SZ. ALL of the naval ships are controlled by friendlies, and if the scramble is defending the assault they would have to defend against ALL of the ships.
If the scramble can swoop in and destroy only the transports in the middle of ALL the war ships, I feel that this is just a manipulation of the words printed in the rulebook.

RE: Global 2nd edition Q+A ( AAG40.2)posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
How would this scenario play out? 3 UK inf and 3UK art are loaded on three US transports attacking western germany from SZ 112, (UK’s turn) with a large US navy in the same sea zone and no UK navy or air. Germany scrambles to defend the sea zone but my question is are the German air able to sink US transports? If so that seems a little strange that the America navy would sit by while one of their transports are sinking. Also since it is an American transport on UKs turn it can’t retreat so what happens?
I would play it as, the UK has to sit on the US ships until they receive their own orders to attack. The ships they are offloading from are still manned, and there for would still be able to defend. And besides, you CAN’T single out or choose who you are attacking in a country/territory/SZ, you attack the whole space and everything in it. If the SZ that they are offloading from is loaded with friendly ships, they still get to defend the space. Its that way in every other case in the game. Friendly powers occupying the same space can defend at the same time, but can only attack during their own individual turns. Also in the case of an ACC with two Friendly planes on it (all 3 can defend that SZ, ACC and the 2 friendly planes, but the friendly planes can only attack on their own turn and with out being able to move the ACC that they took off from).

RE: IL's New Global 1940 map file…posted in Other Axis & Allies Variants
You may have heard it all to often already, but i want to commend you on your work here. Great work on the digital map file.
Question is, Is this the same map as the 1940 2nd edition? What is the difference between the original and the 2nd edition? I am a current owner of the 2nd edition, and want to make a plexi board with no bend/hinge points ;)
P.S. if i knew how i would do the same myself. If i did know how I would like to have all of the set up right on the board, just like it is on the neutral territories. Makes for a much faster set up, which gets you to gaming much quicker… Faster gaming makes a happy gamer :)
