      Variable,

I vote we give up the I-400 for something else we really need.  I have at least 100 each I-400s and there were only a small number built.  So you have my vote to add something we really need for the Japanese.

Gentlemen here is another idea we can use for the Japanese.
How about using a ME-262 jet fighter for the Japanese Air Force?

U-234 on the other hand is one of the most popular examples of an aborted Yanagi mission in May 1945.[65] Amongst others, her cargo included examples of the newest electric torpedoes, one crated Me 262 jet aircraft, a Henschel Hs 293 glide bomb, and 560 kg of uranium oxide.

      @WARRIOR888:

      Gentlemen,
Here is another Japanese WWII pro-type heavy tank.
O-I Super Heavy Tank  The picture of this one it was almost the size of a German King Tiger II or a JadgTiger.

This Japanese prototype was a multi-turreted tank equipped with a 105 and a 45mm cannon, plus three 7.7mm machine guns. The maximum thickness of the armor was said to be around 200mm

According to Japanese sources the prototype(estimated weight 120 tons) was fielded in Manchuria for operative tests.

      WARRIOR888

this kinda looks like the french heavy tank

It does have similar charectristics to a French Char 2 C which actually 10 were built and used in operations.
The Germans didn’t have anything even close to it.

      Yavid,

Understand that I am just pointing out that the Japanese were actually working on heavy tank designs.
I have even found another pro-type of a Japanese Tiger. No data but an excellent drawing.  The Germans actually were transfering several Panthers, Stug IIIs, Stukas and 88 AA guns to Japan.  The ship carrying the Panthers and 2 crated Stukas was sunk the  2 ea 88 AAs and Stug IIIs actually made it.  So there was a good chance that several Tigers could have ended up in the Japanese Army.
I am not suggesting FMG or Coach build any of them.
So if we end up using an OOB Tiger to Get a Mogami, Tony or something else actually iconic it is ok by me.

Gentlemen,  The Imperial Japanese Army was developing Heavy Tanks in WWII

Here is proof. Go to this link and you will even see a picture of one. This thing looks impressive. If the Japanese had these at Guadacanal the Marines would have been in serious trouble.

      Drlarsen:

Making SBB’s into CB’s with an exacto sounds fairly straightforward (though I’d still love to see a pic whenever it’s convenient for you.)  But the A-150 mod sounds complicated. It sounds like you’re doing some painting then?  Are you detailing or just doing a flat country-specific color?  I’d reather avoid painting things this small in the first place; detailing them sounds like a bridge too far for my lack of ability…

In response to your question about painting minatures, I have painted well over 10,000 AA, World at War, Xeno, Navwar, Sytrex, GHQ, Heroics and Ross, FMG and HBG minatures. I use mainly Model Masters paints when I can find them or Testors acrylic miltary flats.  My IJN Fleet is painted a very dark gray for hulls and superstructures and deck tan for all decks and flight decks all funnels are flat black.  All IJN Carriers have meatballs on them and some I decaled with arrestor gear. Japanese aircraft are several colors from white and green early and pre-war to mottled green and gray mid to late war, all have meatballs on the wings.  I painted my IJN ships and planes to match my 1-700 scale waterline IJN Fleet.  All Jap armour and artillery is painted yellow with green camo streaks all over. Artillery is glued to Jap roundels.  Imperial Jap Army and SNLF troops I am still exerperimenting with color patterns. Most of them are HO or 172nd scale minatures.

      Variable,

Is the Japanese set going to be limited to 28 peices per set?  If it is then I suggest you scrap the truck and the light tank.  Go with a decent med tank and add another fighter and a major fleet carrier to replace them.

      DrLarsen:

I assume you modify oob Yamatos into B-64’s by taking an exacto knife to their sides?  How would you do the A-150’s?  Wasn’t the A-140 just an early planned predecessor of the Yamato with all its guns forward?  If you’ve actually done some of those mods, can you show us some pics?  I might experiment with some of the same techniques, since I’ve got so many dozens of them to experiment with… I might also try some similar techniques to make some oob Iowa’s into Alaskas if it works well…

In response to your question I have modified many OOB Battleships across the board.  Now I am recovering from a flood in my basement so it will be awhile before I can them all out and find all my mods and take pictures to show you.  Sometime in July I will get digital photos of my painted mod units and post them here.

Yes to mod Yamatos into B-64s that is how you do it and shorten the sterns and the main Pogoda Superstructure. To make a IJN A-150 you would have to cut two OOB Yamato’s apart and super glue the two forward super structures with the main batteries togaither. Then you have to mod a stern by cutting off a bow on one of them and super gluing a stern on or you get creative with an xacto knife.  To re-inforce your units and give them strength, I use the non embossed side of expired credit cards trimed to the size of each ship.  This keeps your new units firmly assembled and less chance of the glue joints ever breaking apart.
I have modified OOB Iowas into Alaskas and North Carolina’s, Royal Soverigns into Kongos and into Queen Elizabeths.

      Coach, in response.

Nagato class was the largest class in tonnage and had the only 16" guns, all others had 14".
This was my choice for a regular battleship. Fuso, Ise as a early war BB. Since WOTC is doing a Kongo class, I went a different route. Yamato would be larger than the Nagato to represent a heavy Battleship

I support this line up from Coach for IJN Battlewagons.  This would give us all 3 very different Japanese Battleships from HBG if he decides to go that route.  We will have two different other IJN battleships, a Kongo from FMG and a new OOB Kongo.

So this would give the IJN 5 different battlships, 6 if you count the original OOB Yamato.
Unless I missed something in all the former comments.

Any other IJN Battleships could possibly be included in a possible future straight IJN naval set like we proposed last year for the USN.
      Any Thoughts on this.  WARRIOR888

KNP,  I have those same two models only my 1-700 Tamiya Yamato has the 6.1 secondary and my Aoshima Mushashi has the enhanced AA.  I still have the original boxes from 30 years ago.

I think if a Yamato is re-done it should be with the 6.1s  OOB Yamatos can be modified into B-64 Battle Cruisers as I have done.  I am toying with taking 4 OOB Yamato’s and doing some serious mod into fantasy AA  A-150 and A-140 Super BBs with 20 inch guns.

What happen to the Panzer IV in German set 2?  is it a dead issue now?  Panzer IV was a seriously produced medium tank of the German Army and SS Divs.  It was used in conjunction with a Battalion of Panthers mainly after Kursk and onwards. Panzer III was regulated to a secondary light tank roll and many coverted to Stug IIIs.

Gents, I  personally use AirAFix, HO scale  and Hasegawa and Italeri and Escai 1/72nd troops.  If you have a problem with them falling over, just glue them to colored mini poker chips it works well.  I own about every type of WWII troop you can imagine.  From, Paras, SS, Marines, Red Guards, German and Italian Apline, French Foreign Legion, USSR Partisans, Rangers, Regular Army, Afrika Korps, 8th Army, Chinese, ANZAC, Commandos and US Airborne and so on.  Many are hand painted in authentic WWII uniform colors for their respective nations.  So more AA figures are great, but for me they are not required.
Coach,  French Foreign Legion in their Kepis are totally cool with a sub-machine gun.  Suggestion, maybe you will look at producing them for your French set.

Hopefully in a 6 month to 12 month period you maybe able to resume this additional US supplemental set.  I am getting ready to move to ND to live in the next 3 weeks so let me know so I can get my order in and shipped to Enid, OK before I move.
