    • RE: No ASW capabilities in destroyers

That is exactly what I was looking for: simple, add flavour and fun !

Thank you very much, Krieghund !

Why isn’t it already there in a revised rulebook ?  :-D

    • No ASW capabilities in destroyers

It surprises me that, unlike AA50, destroyers do not have any ASW capabilities in this Guadalcanal,
apart of being used in groups.
That is, 1 BB is as effective hitting a sub as 3 DDs, although it is more risky to involve 1 BB than 3 DDs.

Anybody already thought a house rule for this ?

    • RE: This is a Limited Edition Game

I think this is a bad precedent for whatever other “special or revised release” they would think of in the future.

Would you buy an “Axis & Allies Europe (or Pacific) Revised Edition” with such precedent ?
      I wouldn’t.

    • RE: Defender picks deaths

I like the layered and randomized system as in AAG.
It has three layers, air, sea and land.

Air battles first, the surviving units go to sea combat first, the surviving units to
shore bombardment, unloading transports and finally land combat.

In each “layer”, caualties are randomized, but the hit probabilities for infantry are more than for artillery and Antiaircraft for instance. So cheap units protect more expensive ones.

      Greetings

    • RE: AA50 bidding

Sorry to answer such a naive question.  I’m new to A&A.
What does “bidding” mean in the context of these games ?

    • RE: Plastic Playing Pieces

      @Gallo:

      uhm… I’m just curious:

what naval, air, and land units does AA Pacific, Europe, Guadalcanal, D-Day, and Battle of the Bugle represent? Is there much change?

I know that US fighters for AA Pacific are Hellcats (or maybe Wildcats?).

German bomber ( only 1 ! ) from the Bulge is a Ju88, in AA50 bombers’ type is Heinkel 111

    • RE: 1st play: simultaneous phases ?

So, at the beginning of combat phase, it is the responsibility of both players:

      1. to identify every zone where a combat takes place even if it’s not the liking of 1st player.

      2. to declare beforehand the “free shots” from ranged fire (“free shots” as stated in the official FAQ) that they wish to take.

Then, the first player decides the order of combats, including those “free shots”.

This was not really very clear to me by reading the rules

      Thank you very much !

    • RE: 1st play: simultaneous phases ?

Just to clarify, the Jap player would not be attacking with his infantry Guadalcanal in his turn.

    • 1st play: simultaneous phases ?

      Hi,

I’m in the middle of my first solitaire play of AAG.
I’m not sure to have understood the order of play in combat.

In the movement phase, the movement of units is almost simultaneous, type by type.
However, in the combat phase, I understand that the first player is the only one to initiate battles.

So in the first game turn, Japan moves and the US player cannot attack the Jap garrison in Guadalcanal in this combat phase until he is given the player phase token.

Also, the regroup phase would be for Jap only.

      Is that correct ?

    • RE: Is AA Pacific becoming obsolete ?

Once again, Thank you very much !

It is certainly more interesting to add more than 3 players in the game, but I’m having difficulties to find even one (not by PBEM or online I mean).

I’d love to see your cruiser rules when they are ready.

    • RE: Is AA Pacific becoming obsolete ?

      Thanks for your answers !

That’s probably true. Larry may want to develop something new at a middle scale rather than going back to a work that he did not even finish (as far as I know by reading his forum).

So I could not resist and ordered the last copy of my nearest online store … :-D

About the house rules, are they under the common House Rules forum ?
or is there any central place for house rules of this game only ?

    • Is AA Pacific becoming obsolete ?

      Hi group !

I’m new to the A&A world and have just ordered both AA50 and AA Guadalcanal games.
From Guadalcanal, what I like most its simplicity and the combat system with its air-sea-land steps.

I’m a big fan of the Pacific campaign and - of course - have skimmed through the AA Pacific rules and I have found them very interesting. In BBG, some say this is the best game in the series.

I was thinking of purchasing this as well but, with the release of new AA50, do you think this game somehow being overlapped with it ?

IMHO, this game needs a revision, to incorporate cruisers for instance, and maybe the map needs another fresh look. I hope AH/Larry do it …

      Greetings
