Eh, I’ve got no particular take on ‘em. I suppose they could be cool, but I’ve never liked the whole atmosphere of collectable stuff. Give me good ol’ Diplomacy any day :D.

For the third time in as many threads, merry Christmas! :P ;)

RE: Favorite Quoteposted in General Discussion
Yanny, at least part of that line you attributed to Churchill was original to Will Rogers; to quote from him, “Democracy is the worst form of government, except for every other.” Don’t know about the first part…

Merry Christmasposted in General Discussion
Since the other topic with a similar title seemed like a bad idea waiting to happen, I figured I’d start another. Merry Christmas to all, whether or not you celebrate Christmas :).

RE: Religion needs to go awayposted in General Discussion
With Janus on this; while we disagree strongly on the religion subject, we tend to agree on most other topics, and can discuss things pretty rationally. As for your ahem points, ncscswitch:
1: Christ was the Son of God, and therefore a Christian (a Christian is simply anyone who believe Jesus was the Son of God). Jesus did indeed go to Hell temporarily, for three days by my reckoning, but that was to pay the price for human’s sins. God then decided the price had been paid, and resurrected Jesus. Merely being born a Jew doesn’t mean you’re going to Hell; it’s possible to be a Jew, and believe Jesus was the Messiah.
2: Anyone, of any race, creed, or color, who believes Jesus Christ was the Son of God, is a Christian, and going to Heaven. So, if a Mormon believes this, he’s a Christian. If a Branch Davidian believes this, so’s he. Simple enough.
3: So you’re saying that God should have no standards? That, Heaven being His home, he shouldn’t have the right to put down a cover charge? God doesn’t condemn people; people condemn themselves. If you hear the truth and ignore it, the consequences are yours to accept; blaming God for your own faults is simply an excuse to not take responsibility.
4: And as for the people born more than 2000 years ago, I honestly don’t know. I believe many of them are in Heaven, because I believe the requirements were different. At the point Christ entered the world, things changed, but previous to that I do not know how God judged. All I know is that He did, and I trust He had some pretty good reasons.
Falk: The Crusades were committed by Christians. But then, previous to that, it was the Muslims who took over the Holy Land. And I’d say the recent troubles involving certain Islamic loonies is pretty much their fault, not us Christian’s. So maybe, just maybe, it’s possible that there’s blame enough to go around…? Maybe…?

I’m with Marine; time to lock this. It’s degenerated into two people repeating the same arguments, and throwing in personal attacks while they’re at it. If y’all wanna start another thread to discuss this rather interesting subject, feel free, but this thread should go.

RE: Religion needs to go awayposted in General Discussion
To all of you believers out there,do you believe that Muslims are going to hell because thay dont follow Jesus? According to your religion, its a fact so be honest and say it!! Quit saying that another religion has the same merits as yours because its a F****g lie…
Muslims are going to hell. So are Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, atheists, agnostics, Deists, Wicca-ists, and every other non-Christian on the planet. I’ve never said otherwise. It’s not pretty, but as far as I’m concerned, it’s the truth.
And I’ve never claimed Muslims and Christians can live in peace; anyone can see that historically this has been impossible, and logically can’t work. So what’s your point?
And as for religion being bull; that’s totally your opinion. Personally, I think your opinion is bull, so we’re even. No hard feelings.

Yanny; was that an actual argument, or simply a sarcastic, sophomoric, and adolescent attempt at humor?
Actually, doesn’t matter; it wasn’t worth responding to anyway. I gotta stop doing that.

Don’t have anything to add to the gravity debate, I’ve never pretended to know anything about physics, though this does seem rather silly to me; as Falk said, if the mass of the Earth hasn’t changed, then I’m pretty sure its gravity hasn’t either.
- their was no Noah
- their was no ark
- their was no flood
You have no actual evidence for this, so try not to make a total ass of yourself. The story of the flood, etc., could be apocryphal, but you have no evidence to determine once and for all that it never happened. And by the way, the word you were looking for was “there.”

RE: God's Debrisposted in General Discussion
Kinda like the line from Groundhog Day: “What if God isn’t all powerful? What if He’s just been around long enough that he knows everything?” 8-)

RE: God's Debrisposted in General Discussion
Not a bad way of thinking of it, GG. My own is slightly different; I propose that, if one chooses not to know what’s going on, than it’s the same as actually not knowing. Were God to deliberately not “see the future,” as it were, then our Free Will would not be obstructed.
That’s not a good explanation of it, but it’s 10:00 and I’m tired, so give me a break ;) :P.

RE: God's Debrisposted in General Discussion
Yeah, I read it about a year ago. It was interesting, though I disagreed with the primary premise of it (or one of them). Conversation could be interesting, I’ll check in occasionally.
Oh, by the way, it’s worth noting that Adams himself said, in the introduction to his book, that he also doesn’t agree with the book’s conclusions; so apparently the author saw something wrong with it too ;).

We got two dogs; Chelsea (pronounced “Kelsea”), a wacked-out, weird, squirrelly little Border Collie, and Alexi, a big (compared to the Collie), dumb, but funny German Shepard. Lots of entertainment from both of them :D.
