      I think you first need to decide what the ships are for. Then you can build accordingly.

      Are you planning a full scale invasion of Japan or just trying to sink ships to stop japans expansion towards australia or hawaii. Another strategy might be convoy raiding or island hopping across the pacific.

      Depending on your goal you will end up with very different patterns.

      In my most recent games as us i have bought almost entirely subs and destroyers and very few capital ships. The subs convoy raid while the destroyers escort my transports. I try to avoid a full scale confrontation foe as long as possible

      @Flashman:

      I’ve also suggested that the CPs get a POW release unit bonus after the Revolution; 1 infantry each for every completed round of the game.

      I wouldn’t really support this for the official game, but as a house rule that is really cool!

      One could get a rules download, get different colored pieces that look similar from other AAA games and hand them out as tryout games to newbies with excellent map, piece containers, game box and odd looking but functional pieces.  If one is feeling benevolent, throw in some dice. :)

      My guess is that they decided it was too close to Germany. Almost certainly this is why they’ve vandalised the map to give East Prussia to Poland. Also Moscow is more central and so, with plodding infantry movement, its needed for Russia to be able to reinforce the southern front with new units.

      Europe standalone is OK, but it is still lacking in options. Honestly, I don’t really plan on playing pacific alone ever again.

      I like buying a carrier first round with Germany. If UK builds a factory in cairo then he also has to kill the fleet in 97. If he does both of these then London is very light and I would probably build 9 transports with Germany to take UK. Once Uk is gone on T3, which is almost a 100% if UK attacked 97, 96, and bought the IC first turn, then Italy is free to take Cairo and get the IC in Egypt. Italy for the rest of the game would be making 30+. All you have to do is make sure you leave enough Units on Uk that US can’t liberate. Yes, Russia will be making a lot of money at this point, but only for a turn or two. Then you get her back down into the 35 range. Italy will soon be pressuring russia the Caucus region, and US won’t have many places that he can go besides norway. I think if Germany builds navy it is safer to wait till R2 to build the factory in Egypt. I also build a factory in persia R2 with UK. Use transport off egypt to pick man up and take persia R1.

      Hey Flashman, you are well informed and have good ideas BUT I can assure you that these thoughts will lead to complex rules which Larry would like to prevent especially for this initial release which is supposed to bring some numbers in!

      I am curious how he avoids some of your described problems but we will see.

      In an advanced game/collector’s editon whatsoever things might be different!

      In my experience, KGF is not surefire in 1941 setup.

      If you have a meticulous player for Japan and a player with a good strategy for Germany, The Allies focusing entirely on Germany Leaves Japan free to roll over Asia.

      Fast forward to 1944/45 And the Allies circling in on Germany.  Yes, Germany will likely fall, but if Japan has meticulously managed her troops up to this point, Russia will have fallen or be about to fall to hoards of Japanese tanks.

      My experience is that in any 1941 game with strong players, something has to be done to slow down Japan before she becomes a juggernaught, and this take away from the KGF.

      Of course, this is my opinion only and my group of players is 6 strong leading to a heavy bias due to the low sample number.

      Ironically, I agree with Cow on this one.  Russia could use a bomber.  This alone could balance the game.  Maybe a UK sub in the Med also.

      Everyone knows if you want europe to be a real war game, you play AA50 anyway. Or any of the 42 boards, except v4… which doesn’t count as a game, it is just the allies hit with a giant nerf bat revised edition oh and PS germany sea lion now impossibru.

      Larry Harris is just emo that people are so europe centric. They don’t care about the pacific or Japan and it makes Larry Harris sad. So he forces it upon us now.

      I haven’t bought a single pacific unit for revised or aa50 in over 3 years. except in 42 version… but usually I just take solomon so I get my +5 and then I call it a day. People like me infuriate Larry Harris.

      It is cool, the days of not doing pacific are long gone, that is all. Now that Larry Harris forces pacific… he makes russia feel sad for sitting down and playing.

      Yeah, it’s true that we’ve been working on solving this issue. We didn’t like the way the system displayed the pricing. If you notice, when we did the Neutral individual pieces it was set up better, the way you would expect to see it. You choose the piece and the price, then select from colors. The old way had you select the set, then the piece and would change the price according to the selected piece. I have updated the Axis Minors to the new system today. The other sets will follow suit but require individual pictures and some photo editing to make everything look nice for the site. In the meantime, the US and Marine sets are still the old way. Thank you for your understanding! We’re always looking to be better.

      Might not have been the wildest game , but my best friend has not recovered and still talks about how ridiculous it is, so he is the wildest part of the story!
      Won D-Day with 1Art in St Lo(my only unit), when he probably had 15-20 units left all poised to conquer a vacant Normandy.
      Might ring him tonight and remind him of it:
      I love Axis favoured games.
