      @vodot

If that’s what the game would be like, I would be very happy though it should be renamed Mediterranean instead of North Africa if it includes the naval war and Malta.

obviously I have no idea, but the Mediterranean naval situation was inextricably interwoven with the North African campaigns… so unless they’re zooming waaaaaay in on just the desert warfare at an almost tactical level - in which case they would still need to at least abstract the naval situation for things like supply, etc - then I think they have to include the Mediterranean and the naval and air campaigns therein as well.

    • RE: [AA50/Anniversary] Modular Map Overlays - Splitting Australia, the Balkans, and Sea Zones; adding Cairo, Malaya, Singapore, Rio, Cape Town, Recruitment Centers and tons more!

Breaking up the US East coast, splitting SEUS (6) off from NEUS (was 12, now 10):

      LHS_USA_v2.png

…and refining the West: NWUS to 4 IPC (was 2):

      RHS_USA_NW4.png

These changes net the US +6 IPCs, intended for a stronger US without NOs, or for a system that cuts the US income in half for a while e.g. 1940 and earlier starts.

      Experimenting with new Med SZs:

      New_Med_SZ.png

And finally, some Soviet tweaks to add a few IPC and granularity:

Split Siberia (1) off from SFE
      SFE.png

Split Irkutsk (1) off from Yakut

      irkutsk.png

Net change of +2 for Soviets who have not gotten much from my other tweaks and have fallen somewhat behind in the IPC counts.

I agree, the D10 change alone is huge. No more dividing by 6 for hit counts!

…The whole premise of this project is that it’s possible and useful to add a few more carefully chosen territories to create a middle ground between AA50 and Global.

I would say there is a part of this project that is very focused on mechanics- certainly the collaborative portion between you and I. In that sense, this is true. However I also have a lot of fun here seeing historical and ahistorical things become possible, and even more just enjoy the outlet for my creativity in the service of this community.

But along those first mechanical project lines:

That said, not every request to add territories to AA50 will make sense.

      …this is certainly true.

but Vodot is too much of a softie…

Haha, this is so true that I’m doing this work with my therapist right now… Watch me equivocate in this very post!

      @Titus said:

I think Vodot likes making the overlays/modifications

…and this is also definitely true :)

Regarding these changes in particular, mechanically, the Azores have been interesting as an “unsinkable aircraft carrier” for axis aircraft, with Malta a corollary for the UK. But yes- both these and the Maldives are gravy. like a lot of what I’ve done in this thread. :)

    • RE: I have 100 blank dice, how do I divide them for quick battles?

100 dice!! I think you may have reached overkill levels of dice-throwing already :) Here’s my suggested breakdown:

      • 20 “ones”
      • 40 “twos”
      • 30 “threes”
      • 10 “fours”

This would represent a perfectly-matched battle with a unit count of 40-50 and the following composition on each side:

      • 20 inf/art in any combination
      • 15 tnk/ftr
      • 5 bmr

I think that breakdown would cover 95% of your battles, with a possibility that you have to throw some infantry dice twice (or throw a few of them into a “2x” or “3x” tray).

I am glad we can welcome open discussion about whether the VITALLY CRITICAL STRATEGIC areas of NORWEG are inaccurately depicted on the map. This seemingly minor country has been overlooked as a potential battleground and since it had the 8th largest sea-going force by tonnage, think that we need to give it several destroyer units as well as fishing boats units that can choose to capture COD or HERRING depending on the season, these fish can be exploited for their valuable OIL which is the reason that NORSKLAND has such a large offshore OIL industry and also has several varieties of SMOKED and PICKLED fish (with accompanying liquor resources) that should be represented as an in-game commodity.

ONce our re-evaluation of Scandinavia is complete, we should move to my homeland, the CENTRAL UNITED STATES which is ill-represented in terms of its full variety of strategic options and should be divided into no less than 12 zones depicting the DAKOTA regions, and some of the lesser-known parts of NORTHERN TEJAS AKA Kansas.

      Precisely! :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing:

If @Narvik gets Atland, then where are my freshwater, bootleg Aircraft Carriers for the glorious Great Lakes of my beautiful home state of Michigan!!?

    • Complete PBF Newbie seeks grizzled vet with a heart of gold: teach me to PBF via triplea? AA50?

Looking for someone to teach me how to PBF via triplea. Personality and patience much more important than skill level :)

I’ve played a bunch (hundreds, maybe?) of AI games (mostly AAR and PoS) on triplea about 6 years ago, so I (at least at one point) knew the interface well; but I haven’t played in a while and never against a human opponent on triplea, or via forum at all. I have triplea installed and running, with all the relevant maps downloaded.

I would eventually like to work my way up to G40 (just bought it for F2F!) but figure Anniversary is the place to start.

I’m on PST time in the united states. I’ll play almost exclusively on breaks at work, so I can take a turn or perhaps two max per day, with none on weekends or American holidays. Looking to start this particular game sometime after new year’s (company shutdown 12/22-1/1).

      Thanks for looking!

    • RE: 2 ocean USA strategies?

@8d88 said in 2 ocean USA strategies?:

An alternate setup might be interesting where the US player is forced to fight both sides of the map. Perhaps with a split economy and/or shutting down the Panama canal.

I wasn’t going to mention it since its a variant and your original post was leaning towards actual 42.2 strategy, but yes, and this can be super fun! When I used to play a lot of Revised in college I would occasionally get groups of 6 or even 7-8 players. After incorporating Italy and China from @Black_Elk’s ‘Pact of Steel + China’ modified setup, the next move (If we had 7+ players) would be to split the US economy at the board edges and give each half +5-10 IPC. The two halves could take turns together, but each could only build from the economy gained/lost on that side’s half of the board. Units could be flown across the US or shipped across the panama canal if desired, but not built directly at the other side’s factories. Pacific player would also control China (which in this version got a factory, a third territory, and kept a separate economy from the US). Super fun!

8 players and we would do the same for the UK economy with Canada (add a factory here) + London on one side, and India (add factory) + Australia (add factory) on the other, splitting any African money between the two. Japan had to play these games VERY differently and much more surgically than a normal game of Revised (which is typically KGF with a MONSTER Japan), and Germany and Italy were very tough to contain with the much more limited resources going into the Atlantic.

@Dagon81 (et al), spitballing some Italian NA ideas:

      Italian Alps
All Allied ground forces that invade Italy from France roll no dice for the first round of the subsequent combat there. They are still participants in the combat and may retreat at the end of the first round and be taken as casualties as normal.

      Industrial Latecomers
If you control Rome, during the ‘Collect Income’ phase of your turn you collect additional IPCs according to the below schedule:
      Turn 1: +1 IPC
      Turn 2: +2 IPC
      Turn 3–> : +3 IPC

      ‘Bassotto’ SPG/A
Your Artillery have M2 and may accompany Tanks on a blitz on a 1:1 basis.

      The Winter Line
The first time Italy is the target of an Allied amphibious invasion, place three German Infantry there for free before that combat is resolved.

      Bordeaux Sub Base:
If the Axis controlled both Rome and Paris at the start of your turn, during the ‘Mobilize Units’ phase of your turn you may choose one of the following:

      • Deploy 1 Sub in Sea Zone 7 at no cost, or
      • Move all Italian Subs in Sea Zone 7 into France (they no longer occupy SZ 7), where they behave exactly like defenseless transports at sea. Return these Subs to SZ 7 at the start of your next turn.

      Red Sea Flotilla
If there are no Allied units in Italian East Africa, during the ‘Purchase Units’ phase of your turn, you may roll a die for each enemy Transport and Destroyer in Sea Zone 57. On a roll of 1 or less, that unit is destroyed.

      Italian Civil War
If Italy is ever conquered by the allies, your unspent IPCs are discarded (do not give them to the conqueror).

      Eritrean Outpost
During the ‘Mobilize Units’ phase of your turn, you may always choose to place exactly one of your purchased Infantry units in Italian East Africa (no IC required), regardless of which power controls it.
