      " I bought him one of the BOB Jimmy’s to serve as a tiny memory for him when he plays America in our A&A global games."

      That is awesome.

      Yeah… Saving Prvt Ryan shook up my dad pretty bad as well, but actually it was Schindler’s List that really got to him, his tank division was the first to reach one of the larger concentration camps (name is written down but I can’t place it… not Dachau… anyways).  Apparently - and perhaps rightfully so - that was harder for him than some of the combat situations.  I recall him saying that they were scared sh!tless the first time they encountered a panzer - it was during the German counter-offensive, his Sherman even took a glancing hit.  But it was numbers and air support that won the day.

      Paul - yeah… I applaud your stance on transport planes being separated from bombers.  I couldn’t agree with you more - my own rule is purely for simplicities sake for my 50th, it actually kinda bothers me still.  I only play A&A with my ‘old crews’ about twice a year (when I visit the states), otherwise my 50th hosts some players that haven’t played nearly as long as us - though all are interested in WWII history.  So I have to try and keep the piece differentiations to minimum.

      George - no worries, they’re Italians so they should get a long with my guys  :wink:
      Fantastic collection!  Like the individuality that those figs offer - I don’t own any, so are they pretty much the same size as the OOB?  Looks like it (except for the stands of course).  Gotta love those SS!  “HOLD ZE LINE!”
      That one Italian bomber… would never thought that shade of orange could be pulled off, but it looks pretty cool.  Might have to give that one a try.

      @Tall:

      “V”,

      ––Yep, I’m sure a case of insanity could be made against almost all of us here on A&A.Org,…especially YOU!!! :-D
      ––But you know what? I’m having a He!! of a good time playing A&A and interacting with my friends here on A&A.Org.
      ----One day, (IF)whenever we get all of these units detailed and painted I’d love to have a bunch of friends like you over for some games. It’ll be great FUN! I’ll even let you play the English if you like.

      “Tall Paul”

      HEY!  I took their tests, I’m only a partial nut job.

      Oh man… if I had the spare cash and time, I’d grab a flight next week - not only would it be a fantastic A&A venture, but your weather has GOT to be better as well… Oh yeah, I’d play the UK like no one’s business (though actually, I prefer playing the krauts - imagine that :)

      Yeah… ok, I’m convinced, I’ll give enamels another go. Though - I’m going to have to make a trip to the Hobby store because some of my primaries have dried up it looks…  :-o

      OK… I have my artillery separated… they’re upset that Sgt. inspired me, they don’t like the look of the hobby knife.  :evil:

      Wow… your dad knows that Jimmy well I imagine Paul.  I can only imagine the tales you’ve heard. My own late father didn’t talk about the war too much - until I went with to one of his army reunions… whew.

      In regard to mini knowledge… yeah, a painter will acquire.  Heheh - I could do a blind sight test and tell ya what edition.  Huh, memory.  And then I turn around and forget my own home phone number… (to be fair, I rarely call it).

      @Young:

      I’m surprised that we don’t see more A&A cameos in pop culture.

      It isn’t the kind of ‘geek’ that is in vogue. It isn’t popular enough to make a joke about or other reference to really.

      Yeah - my thoughts as well Frimmel.

      HHEeheh - sociopath for playing Germany… wow, then I’ve been certifiable since the Nova edition. eh eh eh

      Looking again…

      Like that - is it more of a light blue on the Brit units or a gray?

      Cool Tiger… I’m going to start painting my tigs soon, I’ll try that scheme on one of them I think Hoff.

      Love their shoulder boards!  And btw… did you ever notice how much more uhh… ‘fit’ the Russian infantry got after AA50th?  They’re taller and more muscular - fitting for your Russkie infantry Paul!

      (pours a pint and sits down with the rest of the painters)

      Enamels?  I’m not a fan - I like the blending and the ‘dry-fast’ of acrylics, and I find it easier to make the unit look like its seen some action.  Though I do use some enamels for select things I want to remain shiny (guns sometimes).  I (personally) like the dullness of acrylics, though I whole-heartedly agree that the enamels are far more durable (I have used them in the past).

      If I worked with enamels I probably wouldn’t have the ‘fade out’ problem I get on occasion with acrylics, that is to say, after I give them a protective coat some colors/detail isn’t quite as fine.  At times this is ok, a bonus blending more-or-less.  But then there are other times when it mucks up the detail of the face for instance…  I also like that when using enamels, the sheen of decals isn’t as visible.  Huh… might have to dust off the enamels and give 'em a go.

      @sgtwiltan:

      That or we just happen to be the little boys we were and like playing with our toys when no-one else is a round to play with us…Heheh.

      That’s my story and I’m sticking with it.

      Ditto.  I’ll have you know that I make the best machine-gun noises this side of the Atlantic.

      hehehe - It’s strange really.  Sometimes when I’m ‘in the zone’, I’ll take the time to paint something that I doubt anyone will ever notice… yet once the idea is my head - it’s gotta get to a fig. eh eh eh  Example: I ran across an Italian with a flash mark on his face… after a few very precise cuts and painting attempts, booya, the Italian has a cigarette in his mouth. But I think the point is I know it’s there.  Well… and he looks cooler when I’m using them for action figures  :-D

      Oh hey - no worries, ‘jack away’ or - ehhhh, that didn’t sound right. eh eh eh

      Ah… good idea to separate the union Jack’s for control/financial reasons.  Well, my ‘A&A Magnum Opus’ is centered around AA50th, so I have kinda more ‘general’ house rules in regard to elite infantry.  A buddy of mine is centered around the global - and that’s where I get a good taste of detailed house rules on occasion.  I think if you decide to tack any +'s on their attack or defense, you should make it really limited - or if you are liberal with the +'s, make sure their universal for fairness of course.  My own house rules for elite infantry are tied in with tech. (excerpt:)

      "Elite infantry

      If a nation has a development in Army Doctrine, they may utilize the following infantry developments.

      • Marines: On the first turn of combat in any amphibious landing, all infantry attacking from a sea zone receive a +1 to their attack rolls.
      • Commandos: On the first turn of combat in any attack involving paratroopers, all infantry transported by aircraft receive a +1 to their attack rolls.
      • Home Guard: On the first turn of combat in any attack on the nation’s capital, half (round down) of the defending infantry receive a +1 to their combat roll.

      Nations with Mechanized Infantry and a development in Infrastructure may transport 1 Infantry unit in non-combat turns per bomber unit; as per rules governing transport ships loading/unloading units. The bomber/transport plane cannot have attacked in the same turn."

      I have the tech. charts from 50th divided down into four separate areas.  Hmm - back to your wonder… I think it would be cooler if elites had some abilities instead of just a plus here and there.  But the prob. with that is balancing issues, tips pretty easy.

      ‘Matey’ - eh eh eh - despite living here for many years, I still don’t use that one.

      Yeah, I have some… you just gave a me shove down memory lane Sgt.  Eh eh eh - and you’ve reminded me to contact some of my friends still serving.  Cheers.

      Have to agree with Paul about the mods in regard to the artillery… such a boring piece now looks pretty cool.  I tried to spruce up mine by detailing some bolts and on the plates but still rather plain - think I’ll have to try this.  Love the way you cut out the top bit of the front shield piece.  Oh man… Sgt., you know you’re making me have to go back to what I considered “done” pieces.  Ah well, all for the greater good.  8-)

      I hear Hades is lovely this time of year, eh eh eh eh.

      So Paul, was just taking another gander at some of your fine figs… are you going to have rules that correspond to the division/miniature stand?  Or is it for pure coolness? (which it is)
