    • RE: Global 1943 Expansion, Revised

      @superbattleshipyamato123
Lol, as the captain said, I think his 1943 version would be better. It takes a long time to learn all the rules but it also takes a long time to learn OOB 1940. In my opinion OOB has mostly a few paths that lead to a victory in a very advanced game between two experienced players. In the house rule expansion rule set, there are unendless paths that lead to Victory. There is no ‘best’ strategy, just tactical skill levels. An OOB 1943 setup would probably be more limited to starting units and production levels. I would prefer to play the version by Captain. It is not 100% historically accurate, as Novgorod and Scotland are/were taken, but he does the best job I’ve ever seen of simulating world war 2 on a G40 board.

Also, I wanted to say you made a very clear and exact rulebook. I have seen so many rulebooks with loopholes and unclear things, but you point out and explain almost everything (and with almost I mean only 1 or 2 things) so you really did a good job making the rulebook! There are some spell errors though:

      defence (defense) - several times
      concurred (conquered) - one time

I don’t remember exactly which pages the spell errors were stated though.

      Hi Captain
I had planned to play my first game only with the Section 1 rules. Now, there is a rule that says Russia can move it’s factories, but that costs rail capacity. The rule of Strategic Rail movement is stated in a later section, so is there a limit then? Is there an unlimited amount of factories the Russian player can move, or is the limit 3 (the SRM limit)?

@squirecam Sounds good, although I honestly don’t know how to play via e-mail. I’ve only played live games, but sure I’ll like it. I don’t have much live time either.

@tincanofthesea To clarify, I didn’t mean like right now, but tomorrow I will have enough time. In which time zone do you live in? I live in UTC+1, and maybe we can set a time for our game. I am looking forward! I have an (unbeatable) Allied strategy, but I’ve only tested it solo, so I am eager to see how it will play out!

Moscow Taken (again). But the Russians still ahve a good force in Samara, so Moscow will be recaptured again.

Round 6, German turn, second battle for Moscow. UK reinforced Moscow with 2 fighters from Persia, but will it be enough? Russian IPC will be paid to the bank if they lose their capital again.

Japs won the Naval Battle, and are poised to crush Calcutta, although they need to recover their fleet, and subdue China once and for all.

German situation in the west is not very good. Allies have landed in force and Germany will probably need Italian help to keep Western Germany out of Allied hands

    • RE: Gameplay Oztea 1941 Global setup

I am playing with LL and subsequent capture of capital IPC being destroyed (not paid to the conquering player) house rule. It certainly helped the Allies, as Moscow here was taken by the Axis, because of an Italian can-opener. Germany had only one tank left and its airforce after the battle. The Russian were probably going to win the Eastern Front but because of this probably not anymore. They had a large stack of guys in Tambov, which recaptured Moscow. Germans have still a lot of troops left, but will they be able to take Moscow again?

It’s the Japanese turn 5, and the biggest naval battle I’ve ever seen has commenced. The battle takes place in sz 34, around Allied possessed Palau. The entire Axis and Allied fleet are battling here. Japan has 85 combat factors, the Allies have 78. Winner of this battle will have Pacific naval supremacy

    • Gameplay Oztea 1941 Global setup

I was playing a game of Oztea 1941, and from turn 5, the game began to be so interesting I started making pictures of it. Let me know your thoughts and comments about the variant in general and specific strategies you thing they should be done in this game. I played with Low Luck, and the house rule that when a capital gets captured more than 2 times, the subsequent time the player pays his IPC’s to the bank, instead of to the conquering player.
I did use an outdated setup though, with an added naval base in both Kwangtung in Malaya.

    • Why is the Eastern Front in G40 so boring?

In most advanced G40 games, Germany forms a big stack and it slowly marches to Moscow, while the Russians are turtling in Moscow (that’s the best thing they could do, as turtling in Ukraine or Novgorod would be suicide, they will never hold those places) and good counterattacks are limited, as they need to avoid the big German stack. No clever territory taking, no good use of tactical strategy (maybe Italy can-opening but that’s it), it just depends on how much money Germany spends against Russia. However, in Anniversary, it’s quite tricky to take Moscow. You have to plan your buys, consolidate your forces in either North, Center, or South, and you cannot just put your stack right next to Moscow. You need to take their territories, avoid counterattacks, and when you have a good enough force, then the Russians need to turtle. What does G40 misses what Anniversary (and Revised too) have? Tell me what you think, if you agree the G40 Eastern Front doesn’t have a lot of action, and some way to spice the Eastern Front up? More Russian units? More starting units but weaker economy?

Where can I find the most updated setup for this game? The setup in the beginning has been changed you said, and I want to play it on my G40 board.

    • RE: Turtling vs Counter-attacking as Soviet Union?

@tincanofthesea I actually don’t understand why people think Axis have the advantage, as I see no chance of beating this Allied strategy. I have to admit, I am using a more balanced rule for interception. Bombers attack at 0. Escorting Fighters attack at 1. Intercepting Fighters defend at 2. This way you have to have air superiority to bomb the crap out of places, so bombers are no longer overpowered and they still cost 14. This is maybe the cause of the Germans not being able to take Moscow, as in the OOB rules the only way to take Moscow is to bomb them hard. That way Moscow will fall, but not with this balanced rule.
I like when I play with the US to follow my own floating bridge composition, and spend the rest of the money in the Pacific. This will hamper Japan’s ability to fully move west, as they have to keep some fleet home to defend. I’ve played a lot of games of E40 solo, but only one game ofG40. In that game I used this allied strategy but I mixed up Japan a bit… I gathered a lot of fleet and transports around the Carolines, and on turn three I took Hawaii. The American fleet backed off earlier, but they had a bomber on E. US that could help with the counter attack. I lost the Japanese fleet, and from that point they couldn’t move well west enough, but they did manage to defeat China, just before allied landings on the Chinese coast later in the game.

What I wanted to say is that I will have to test more games of G40, with a lot of good German and better Japanese strategies than the ones that I have. Because good Allied strategy can also mean just bad Axis strategy.
