    • RE: Global 40 Expansion Boxes

      @barnee

      What also bothers me is that the roundel for the Germans is on the top, and the Soviet one is on the bottom. I want the AG symbol on top and roundels on the bottom.
      I accidentally did one of the German ones wrong, I didn’t feel like correcting that, so I kept the same outline for the other German ones. I also thought that would help distinguish the Axis from the Allied ones. But now, I come back from that idea, seeing the full picture of the map with the AG markers.

      I can’t handle the asymmetry anymore! I will correct those asap, as well as the markers you mentioned. How many LM markers do you need? Which colors?

      I will keep in mind that png should be lowercase. Do you remember which ones I accidentally saved as PNG?

    • RE: Axis & Allies Global 1940 House Rules Expansion

      One more question and two rule-exploits I discovered (of little to no impact I think, but I don’t really know).

      First the question!

      1. Can (some of) the ten land-based combat units be from another power? For example, Germany has two armies and eight combat units in a territory from the start of its turn. Italy has also two combat units in that same territory. The German player wishes to create an Army Group (assuming it meets the requirements), because, on the following Russian Turn, Russia can attack this territory with a lot of combat factors. With the Army Group bonus, these odds drop below an acceptable level, so the Russian won’t attack this territory.

      I did this example because an Army Group containing foreign units cannot attack with its bonus (since the foreign units will not be able to move on a different power’s turn), but it can defend with the bonus (only).

      Now, the rule exploits:

      1. US National Guards Rule
        The United States gets extra units if Japan declares war on the US (in any way, so also a DoW on the UK will do the job). The US is allowed to declare on some of the Axis powers, not all of them.
        So, what the US player can do, is only declare war on Germany and Italy, but not on Japan yet. If Japan feels like attacking the US or UK after this, the US will get the extra units. If Japan is scared and doesn’t, the US can declare war on a turn where it is advantageous (for example, when it can attack and destroy Japanese units). Because if it declares war immediately, it probably won’t immediately be able to do a very good attack. And the extra income is still collected since the US is at war (with Germany and Italy).

      So, the US can bend the rules in its way to either always collect the extra units, or make a surprise attack, by not immediately declaring war on turn 3 on Japan.

      Just finished the markers for the timetable. Sent to you via email. Corrections for the army markers will follow soon, including the Desert armies, which I forgot to do.

      Will start on those names tomorrow. G6 will also come at that time. Sorry for being late with that, I am almost getting drowned in all the work lol. I am playing 10 games at the same time, and I also have a lot of non-a&a-related stuff I work on at the moment. Probably just need to get my swimming certificate again :)

      Anyway, if there’s anything I forgot to do, besides the names, corrected AG markers, and Desert armies, let me know. Sometimes I forgot who does what and what I need to do lol :)

    • RE: L25 Classic VictoryFirst (Axis) vs. The_Good_Captain (Allies)

      @The_Good_Captain

      You really need to show me how to play the Axis in Classic. So far I have played several solo games as well as games against other players and the Allies have won all games without too many problems, except for one where the Axis got extremely lucky.

      It is this very moment where I am clueless about what to do. Both Germany and Japan have their supply lines up and running and have pushed as far as they can, but they still face an economically superior Allies with a TUV gap that keeps getting bigger. How does the Axis make up for this? Should it have been more aggressive or efficient in the early game or is this situation normal and is there a way to stay in the fight?

      I am now trying this Eastern Europe - Ukraine split as Germany. Not sure if it will work but I can’t see another way to gain the advantage.

      I’d be happy to play you as the Allies after this game. Please show me how a grandmaster plays the Axis! 😁

    • RE: Axis & Allies Global 1940 House Rules Expansion

      @the-captain Oh wait! Even more questions! That means I can use the German Take over Italy rule since I had Axis units in Trans-Jordan. Thanks for clarifying!

      But now I am reading this rule, two new questions came up:

      1. It states that Germany gets the Italian money in the Purchase and Repair units phases immediately. Does this mean that Germany can use Italian money to buy units that same turn? Can Germany use Italian factories immediately?

      2. Does Germany get +4 (2x +2) for each of Iraq, North Persia and Persia, once the take-over has taken place (given that Germany controls those territories of course :) )?

      (3). In case Germany can’t use the Italian money immediately, do the 5 IPCs for the take-over get deducted from the German treasury or from the Italian one?

      And one more question about landmines:

      1. Do landmines detonate when a unit passes through the territory using Strategic Rail Movement?

      I started on the names and found out a way to make them look nice. But I am unsure what size they should be. At the moment, I am making them on 2048x2048 so that I can properly make a black outline around them. Then I can shrink them.

    • RE: Axis & Allies Global 1940 House Rules Expansion

      I had a question regarding the division of territories into regions.

      Are Trans-Jordan and Syria part of Africa or of Asia?

      Baltic states, Eastern Poland and Bessarabia are part of two regions: Europe and the Soviet Union. Can the Soviet Union SRM two or three units from a different Soviet territory into one of these?

      @barnee

      Wow, I think it looks great! I find it now much more clear to see where all armies are! Just need to add a shadow maybe to the tokens, so that they’ll look nice on the map.

      FYI I am busy with the names, although I have trouble finding the right combination of shadow, outline, and font. Will keep you updated on how things look :)

    • RE: Strategy Guide Global 1940

      What is your naval strategy in the Pacific? What I always do as Japan is to create two or three major taskforces: one in Japan, one around the Philippines and the other around the Dutch East Indies or Australia. This way I can deadzone multiple seazones.

      As the Americans, I try to build up a large fleet and when the fleet is big enough, I try to poke into the Japanese line of defence at the Carolines. This way the Japanese have to block off sea zones with destroyers, in order to prevent American transports from taking the coast of china and the Americans from destroying the task force around Japan.

      Mostly the battle is just about who can form the largest stack. Are there any other clever naval strategies, like scattering your fleet? Building a lot of fighters or subs?

      No, Captain and Yamato are talking about this:

      They think it’s an American roundel, but if you look very closely it is actually a Soviet one. It just looks very similar.

      I tested with Classic and was able to reproduce the issue

      Bug also occurs in classic.tsvg

      So here the fighter from Mocsow attacked Eastern Europe through Ukraine which was captured in a battle that same turn, and the land units are able to retreat from Eastern Europe to Ukraine.
