RE: EXP Panzer vs barnee Game 5
I’m just a waste of oxygen at this point lol.
Heh heh but you are using your oxygen to keep improving the awesome TripleA module of the greatest A&A game ever, plus you are a very fun opponent to play against. Please, be more appreciative of your existence! You very much deserve the oxygen! Without you, this all wouldn’t even have been possible! 😁

Improved TripleA module for Europe
Hi all,
The existing TripleA module for Europe doesn’t take care of all rules, such as the Middle East or Strategic Bombing Raids. That’s why I made some improvements to this module to enhance the gaming experience.
The module is available for download directly via TripleA. Click on “Download Maps” and look for the map called “Europe Improved”.

Gameplay Oztea 1941 Global setup
I was playing a game of Oztea 1941, and from turn 5, the game began to be so interesting I started making pictures of it. Let me know your thoughts and comments about the variant in general and specific strategies you thing they should be done in this game. I played with Low Luck, and the house rule that when a capital gets captured more than 2 times, the subsequent time the player pays his IPC’s to the bank, instead of to the conquering player.
I did use an outdated setup though, with an added naval base in both Kwangtung in Malaya. -
RE: Allied Playbook - G40 Collection of Essays - Compiled by jacobgeo24 Nov 18-19 2023
Hehe not sure what this thread is about but yeah, containing Japan can be done. Just keep the Russian units on the Manchurian border as a threat. Use the American fleet to make threats where Japan is weak (i.e. the South Pacific or the North Pacific). Use British fighters to support Russia and India. You don’t have to take any aggressive actions. Just putting your troops where they can pose threats forces them to defend, slowing down their expansion, and if they don’t defend that’s when you strike.
Attacking early as Russia is possible but quite risky. Pressure and attacks from all sides are necessary. However, usually it’s Germany in these scenarios who will become super strong and take Moscow. You can contain Japan however it’s much harder to defeat it. You need to wait for them to make a mistake. It’s often easier to defeat Germany.
However, I must say that it has been a very long time since I last played OOB G40, so you have to take my thoughts with a grain of salt.

RE: Global 1940 & 1943 Expansions Game Reports
@the-captain Wow, just read it. Amazing game report. Maybe you can play as the Axis one time to make @SuperbattleshipYamato happy as you’ll probably defeat any opponent as the developer :)
I started a new game of the House Rule Expansion with all five sections. I did start a game earlier but another game I bought arrived in the middle of the game, so I cleaned it all up and played the other game. Now, I have enough of that other game so I decided to actually play a full game of your great expansion. It’s currently Late 1941, and things are interesting as usual… I followed the strategy guides for Germany, Soviet Union, Japan and United States for this game.
Germany did their opening moves. They took over all of France and Yugoslavia. Finland and Bulgaria joined the Axis. The fleet in sz 111 was destroyed. Near Canada, three U-boots attacked the British destroyer and transport. The destroyer got a hit, so the Germans will not be able to form a wolf-pack if a counterattack happens.
They slowly built up their forces for an Early 1941 Barbarossa campaign. The first Panzer army was created, as well as two Waffen armies, and large stacks of infantry. The initial advance towards Leningrad was successful, and the stack of Russians that took flexible positions in Belarus retreated to Archangel, leaving Leningrad open for the taking. In the south, things didn’t go according to the German plan… a lot of trading took place.
The German force in Bessarabia was attacked with everything the Russians had, and everything but five German tanks got destroyed. The Russians could go on, but they were afraid of an outflanking in Western Ukraine with the German armies in the north. So they retread towards Ukraine and stacked it up with everything it had. The British lend-leased two aircraft to the Russians and flew them to Ukraine, to beef up the defence even more. But the Germans did a risky but bold move. They attacked the Russian forces in Ukraine with everything it had. The five surviving German tanks, a Waffen army in Romania, and all their airpower. The fighting was very exciting, and the Germans managed to destroy the Russian forces (including a Russian army corps and ALL their aircraft) but took heavy losses too. Only one tank and two German planes survived. The Russians regrouped, counterattacked some areas and formed a massive stack in Archangel to counter the German one in Leningrad. The south didn’t have large reinforcements (just a Soviet Army Corps with three guards and a couple of infantry), and with German reinforcements in Poland on their way this may look bad, but next turn the Red Army Conscription will reinforce this area significantly.
The Japanese situation looks pretty bad. A large Japanese army got destroyed by a large Chinese army way deep in china. More Japanese large forces are in Yunnan, keeping the Indians honest but now this army needs to move towards the Chinese in Tsinghai, in order to have a chance to defeat China. The Americans reinforced the Philippines significantly, and the Japanese attack in round 4 didn’t go well. Five American fighters managed to survive and regrouped to the main fleet. The USA, seeing the Japanese struggling with everybody continued to build up naval forces in the Pacific, with a super heavy battleship, destroyers, and carriers.
The situation in Africa is in favour of the Allies. The Italians weren’t able to bring up reinforcements, because their primary goal was to destroy all Allied ships in the Med. After a successful British Taranto raid, the Italians weren’t able to do both. The UK, seeing this, built a factory in Egypt, to build tank units to help in Africa, and aircraft to be lent-leased to Russia.
I can’t wait to see how these events will play out. Japan quickly needs to regroup and take the Philippines, as well as the Dutch East Indies. Italy probably needs to withdraw from Africa, but they can gamble and reinforce it as much as possible, with German aid, and maybe having a chance to dislodge the British from Egypt. On the Eastern Front, the fighting is really exciting and interesting. Both sides have good chances of winning, but German reinforcements are just a bit out of time. And with the Red Army Conscription, lend-lease units (the British can now send three new aircraft as they were destroyed before they were converted into Soviet units), Soviet Guards and eventually Soviet Mass Tank Production, the Soviets have a slight edge. Both sides have a decimated airforce but the Soviets have the lend-lease units.

RE: Global 1940 & 1943 Expansions Game Reports
I am such a big fan of this new map! China finally doesn’t look stupid anymore (in the previous map its shape was super distorted).
Just looking at the map makes me want to play!

RE: Global 1940 & 1943 Expansions Game Reports
I went ahead and cleaned up my table, containing the 1943 setup of the House Rule Expansion.
It was just lying there, untouched for months. I found it a bit too overwhelming. The turns took a bit too long and I didn’t want to randomly just do something.
So I cleaned it up and lied down the 1940 setup instead. I am much more familiar with this one.
And now, I am eager for making a full game report of this game, posting per round, and with a lot of pictures.
So I will go ahead and post the situation of the Game Start. Round 1 will follow soon.

RE: Global 1940 & 1943 Expansions Game Reports
Global 1940 House Rule Expansion, a solo game by VictoryFirst
No. 1 Game Report: Round: Game Start
Brief Overview of Strategy
Axis:
Germany will focus a lot on building U-boats. Italy will be supported in the Med with Luftwaffe units. No serious attempt will be made to conquer Egypt.
Japan will make a swift J2 attack. It will try to conquer China and build a strong navy. With this navy, it will try to conquer some valuable Pacific islands. Then, with a strong economy and a strong land force, India will be threatened.
Italy will be as annoying as possible, by building paratroopers and LCVs. Lots of infantry will be produced to guard the coastline in the Med.
Allies
The UK will do a Taranto Raid, attacking parts of the Italian fleet on the first turn, so that the Italian navy is weakened. It will also build up a large air force to project a lot of power in various areas.
The USA will focus mostly on Germany. It will build a sizeable fleet in the first few turn in The Pacific, in order to form a force that could threaten Japanese forward positions. But for the rest of the game, it will build a massive destroyer task force in The Atlantic, to counter the German submarines. Also, a large air force will be produced, as well as a mighty transport fleet that will prepare for an invasion of North Africa and Europe.
ANZAC will build mostly submarines, to take out any Japanese transports and other small ships that are left alone in the South Pacific. Some pictures from Game Start:
Germany, about to kill France and cause trouble in Europe.
Japan, ready to strike in The Pacific Ocean and Asia
Here, I store my cut-out markers from the rulebook. I printed these on thick paper so that the markers are easy to pick up and last a long time. I store them on the edge of the board.

No. 1 Game Report
Round: Early 1940 (Round 1)
Germany:
Germany purchased five U-boats and upgraded six infantry and two artillery units to Waffen-SS troops. It then attacked various territories. All of mainland France was conquered, including Paris, with the capitulation of France as a result. Yugoslavia also fell. Numerous British naval ships in SZ 106 and 111 were sent to the bottom of the Atlantic. During NCM, Bulgaria and Finland joined the Axis. Three German aircraft landed in Rome for bolstering the defense of Italy, and the rest of the German Luftwaffe landed in Western Germany. AA guns moved west to guard the coastline. Other combat units moved east, in preparation for Operation Barbarossa.
Germany collected 84 IPCs (-1 lost to blockades)Soviet Union:
Soviets purchased one Elite, two infantry, six mines, two tanks, and one Commissar, and saved 7. Combat units moved west to form a defensive line. They concentrated their forces in Belarus and Western Ukraine.
In the Place Units Phase, the 1st Soviet Army Corps was formed, containing a Commissar and three Tank units. Soviet Union ended with 44 IPCs
Japan:
Japan produced three transports and one elite infantry, and saved 5. It started an offensive in China, and conquered several Chinese territories, including Yunnan. In the NCM phase, the Japanese air force was concentrated in Kwangsi. Most of the Japanese fleet moved to SZ 36, in preparation to surprise attack the Colonial Powers in Asia. Japan ended the turn with 53 IPCs.
United States:
The US built some naval units, including an Aircraft Carrier, and two fighters. It also demolished the Air and Naval bases in the Philippines, in case of an attack. Four fortifications were built in the Philippines as well. Numerous naval vessels moved during NCM, in particular in the Pacific. Most of the US air force moved to Wake Island. The US collected 52 IPCs.
China:
China successfully recaptured Yunnan from the Japanese.
United Kingdom:
The British purchased a fighter, some land units, and two air/naval base destructions. It executed the Taranto Raid; it attacked and destroyed parts of the Italian fleet with Naval and Air units. Interestingly, the Germans decided to scramble in one of the battles, to eliminate as many UK forces as possible. The UK also successfully attacked Ethiopia. Air forces landed in Malta, and land units moved into Egypt, some by rail. Sumatra joined the British Empire; an AAA and an infantry unit moved into its territory. Troops in India moved forward to Burma and Shan State. The naval bases in Malaya and Kwangtung were destroyed
The British collected 61 IPCs, ended with 59 (2 lost to blockades).
Italy:
Italy bought two Paratroopers. It attacked Tunis and British naval units that were left over from the attack of SZ 97. It ended with 16 IPCs.
ANZAC:
The Australians purchased a sub, moved into Java, and collected 21 IPCs.IPC Totals:

Global 1940 House Rule Expansion, a solo game by VictoryFirst.
No. 1 Game Report.
Round: Late 1941 (Round 4)
Germany:
In this turn, Germany started Operation Barbarossa and invaded the Soviet Union. The Soviets got an immediate 10 IPCs bonus, and purchased two tank units - these were placed in Bryansk. The Caucasus was invaded by a paratrooper assault and Karelia was attacked by an infantry army from Finland. AGN and AGS were formed in the Baltic States and Bessarabia respectively. The Germans also reinforced their navy in SZ 91 with more U-boats. This turned out to be a tactical mistake…
Soviet Union:
The Soviets dug in their land mines - in order to slow down the Germana advance. They also purchased six Guards infantry units, as well as seven more mines. The air and naval base in Novgorod were destroyed in advance.
Japan:
Having a lack of destroyers in the South Pacific, the Japanese produced three more, as well as land units for Asia. The empty Borneo and Sumatra were scooped up. At this point, the Japanese have a large income - they collected over 70 IPCs.
United States:
The US reinforced the Atlantic Navy with a BB and several destroyers. SZ 91 was attacked by five Fighters, one Tactical, six Destroyers, and a Submarine. There were heavy losses on both sides. This attack was part of a two-staged attack, one by the US, and one by the UK, which would attack the remaining German boats further with a large attacking force. The Americans retreat their aircraft after all screens had been destroyed, and landed on carriers in SZ 87.
Three tank units were lent-leased to the USSR.United Kingdom:
The British built another three fighters, as well as some naval units for the factory in Egypt. SZ 91 was attacked with some naval units - and a massive airforce. The remnants of the German Kriegsmarine were destroyed - with negligible casualties for the British.
Most of the German U-boats have now been destroyed. A major defeat for the Axis in the Battle for the Atlantic.
Two Fighters and a Tactical Bomber were lent-leased to the USSR.
Italy:
Italy helped Germany on the Eastern Front by attacking Eastern Poland. Italy will be supporting Germany here as much as possible.
A large Italian paratrooper force, together with some landing crafts and land units, are now stationed in Greece - in order to threaten Soviet coastal areas, like Caucasus and Rostov.
ANZAC:
ANZAC built a transport and more submarines. Two Japanese transports were destroyed.Income Totals:

- Allies: 186
Without Bonus:
- Axis: 123

Some pictures that depict the situation in Late 1941:
I have rearranged my room and thrown away some old junk so that I could make some space for an extra table beside the board, where I can store the Timetable and Army Boards. Formerly, I was using South America to place the units inside the Armies, as you might have noticed :) -

Round: Early 1940 (Round 1)
Note: I will go into detail just this first turn, then I will give a more general overview of what happened.
Germany:
Purchase: 5 Waffen inf, 2 Waffen art, 1 elite, 2 combat engineers, and 2 U-boats.
The Germans successfully attacked France, although they suffered heavy losses during the attack on Paris. The UK ships in sz 111 and sz 110 were attacked and destroyed. The UK destroyer in sz 106 survived an attack from a German submarine. Yugoslavia was attacked, but the Germans retreated after one round of combat into Romania (that’s what I call a ping-pong move 😄 )
During NCM, they reinforced Norway and moved some units east. Finland and Bulgaria joined the war on behalf of the Axis. They ended the turn with 83 IPCs.Soviet Union:
Purchase: 1 elite, 1 commissar, 1 tank, 4 paratroopers, 6 mines and saved 2.
The Russians concentrated forces in Belarus and Western Ukraine, anticipating a possible German attack. Three Soviet troops in the Far East moved by rail to reinforce Western Ukraine. The remaining troops in the Far East massed along the Manchurian border, making Hirohito sweat (hopefully lol 😀). 1st Soviet Army Corps was formed in Moscow, containing three tank units.
They ended with 39 IPCs.Japan:
Purchase: 1 elite, 1 infantry, 1 artillery, 1 transport, and a minor factory.
All four Chinese border territories were successfully attacked.
In the NCM, most of the Imperial Japanese Air Force landed in Kwangsi, along with 6 infantry coming from Formosa, Okinawa, and Korea. A tank and an art from Japan were transported to Kiangsi. The remaining troops in Asia moved west towards China. The Home Fleet went to sz 20, and the remainder to sz 36.
The minor factory was placed in Shantung
They collected 48 IPCs.United States:
Purchase: 4 fortifications, 2 facility-destructs, 1 destroyer, 1 carrier and saved 21.
Aleutian Islands were reinforced with 2 inf and 1 AA. Most of the US Pacific Air Force flew to Wake Island. Both US submarines in the Pacific moved to sz 54.
The naval units were placed in the Pacific in sz 10. The Air and Naval Bases in the Philippines were destroyed, and the four infantry stationed there were fortified. They ended with 73 IPCs.China:
The Chinese recaptured Yunnan and massed troops in Szechwan and Shensi.United Kingdom:
Purchase: 2 fighters, 2 destroyers, 1 elite, 1 fortification, two naval base destructs, and saved 1.
In Europe, the German battleship in sz 111 was attacked and destroyed along with a German sub, at the cost of a UK destroyer and two fighters. The Italian destroyer and transport in sz 96 were attacked and destroyed. Ethiopia was successfully captured. Gibraltar was abandoned. The UK transports moved to sz 106 and the two destroyers were placed there as well, the remaining units were placed in London.
In the Pacific, Sumatra was captured and the British forces in India moved up to Burma. The naval bases in Kwangtung and Malay were destroyed, in case of a Japanese attack. The infantry in Borneo was fortified.
They ended the turn with 61 IPCs.Italy:
Purchase: 2 Landing Crafts and 1 paratrooper.
During Combat, the empty Gibraltar was scooped up. Greece was successfully attacked and captured. The remaining Allied ships in the Med were attacked and destroyed. Italian forces in Africa moved east and massed in Alexandria. The Italians are now collecting bonuses for controlling Gibraltar, Southern France, and Greece, as well as for having cleared the Med from enemy ships. They received 24 IPCs.ANZAC:
Purchase: 1 transport
The Australians captured Java with an AA and an inf, as well as Dutch New Guinea. The naval units moved to sz 54. One fighter flew to Malaya to bolster the defense. They ended with 19 IPCs.France:
The French fighter destroyed the Italian transport that went to attack Gibraltar. The French in the UK moved up to defend Scotland. The destroyer in the Indian Ocean moved east to the Pacific.Income totals

Round: Late 1940 (Round 2)
Germany:
The Germans purchased a bunch of land units, a fighter, and 6 U-boats.
They moved the bulk of their forces east. 4 fighters landed in Italian-controlled Alexandria. The two combat-engineer units moved to Paris. 1st Panzer Army was formed in Berlin.
They ended with 64 IPCs.Soviet Union:
Seeing Korea not being properly defended, the Soviets made a surprise attack against the Japanese and opportunistically captured empty Korea with just 1 infantry :) Now a state of war exists between these two great powers, and more fighting will ensue.
2nd Soviet Army Corps was formed in Moscow.
They ended with 45 IPCs.Japan:
The Japanese, outrageous by the lame attack, moved a large amount of forces up north to meet the Russian infantry army. A large army is now stationed in Manchuria. Soviet Far East was captured too. Also, the Japanese troops in Asia moved deeper into China, capturing all the border territories, including Yunnan.
A second minor factory was placed in Kiangsu.
They ended with 52 IPCs.United States:
The US continued to build up in the Pacific and purchased some naval units, as well as two fighters. Four fighters moved to Guam. They ended with 68 IPCs.China:
The Chinese made a coordinated strike with the British. They made an agreement - if the Chinese would gather their forces and make an attack against the Japanese army in Kweichow, the British would declare war on Japan. No sooner said than done. The attack proved to be successful, reducing the Japanese to just one tank, at the expense of four Chinese infantry.United Kingdom:
As promised, the British and the ANZAC made an unprovoked declaration of war against Japan. The Japanese troops in Yunnan, still drunk from their victory, were surprised by an attack from the Indian forces in Burma. They were completely destroyed and only got one hit in return.
In Europe, Gibraltar was liberated from Axis oppression. The defense in Egypt was beefed up with some aircraft and land units.
They ended with 58 IPCs.Italy:
The Italians captured Yugoslavia. They also made successful amphibious invasions of Syria and Trans-Jordan, together with landing crafts and paratroopers. A lot of pressure is put on Egypt. They ended with 23 IPCs.ANZAC:
They purchased submarines and captured Celebes, giving them a whopping income of 30 IPCs.Income totals:

Round: Early 1942 (Round 5)
Eastern Front:
Axis units attacked along the whole front. Novgorod was captured and AG Center was formed in Belarus.
The Russian counter-attack was limited in scale. They went for a defense-in-depth - so they placed most of their armies in Samara so that they can reach all territories on the frontline.
One Russian partisan was placed in an empty Bessarabia. When the Italians tried to suppress this partisan, it actually rolled a ‘1’ and killed an Italian tank in the process 😂Still no lend-lease units have arrived from the UK or the US, so the Russians are in a tough spot.
Mediterranean:
The UK gathered all their aircraft to attempt to kill the Italian fleet. It was a somewhat risky move as the odds were ~70%, but fortunately, the attack was successful and the Regia Marina is now part of the bottom of the sea. Still, the Italians are putting a lot of pressure on Egypt.Atlantic:
The Germans now have a total of 18 U-boats operating in the Atlantic. Seeing this, the Americans reinforced their Atlantic fleet with a SHB and an Aircraft Carrier, ready to take on the fight.
The British Paratroopers made landings in empty Holland/Belgium and Southern France, although SF was recaptured immediately by Italian troops.Asia:
Heavy fighting is taking place between Japanese and Allied troops. The Japanese continue to march through Siberia, and in China, there is a back-and-forth battle. China is getting low on units but still tries to keep up the fight.Pacific:
A large victory for the Americans in the Pacific. Due to an oversight by the Japanese Naval Commanders, the American fleet was able to attack SZ 6 with a 100% chance of victory. Miraculously, they rolled extremely well too (+10 hits more than on average), the best rolling I’ve ever seen. However, this was not to their advantage. The plan was to retreat from combat after having dealt enough damage, but because of this incredible rolling, they actually managed to destroy all Japanese units. Now, a large part of the American fleet is stuck in SZ6 and there is more than enough stuff for the Japanese to counter-attack. There is more American fleet coming but it is uncertain if this fleet will be strong enough to face the Japanese reinforcements.Australian subs continue to be annoying in the Pacific. Formosa was recaptured by Japan, although ANZAC now invaded the Marianas.

Yes, Russia had 51 IPCs, so they built 25 conscription units and a partisan.
Yeah I would’ve gone fully on Japan if those U-boats weren’t there. I felt I had to do something against them. The Atlantic is heating up for sure though. The Pacific is already on fire lol.

Round: Early 1943 (Round 7)
Eastern Front:
It’s 1943 and all sides have entered Total War! Germany made use of this by producing 5 tanks and 5 mechs, receiving an extra one of each. They pushed further into the Soviet Union, and moved AGC to Smolensk, threatening to Moscow. They also bombed the Moscow factory for 7 damage.
The three UK fighters in Caucasus were converted to Russian units and helped counterattack some of the captured areas.
The Soviets moved most of their Armies to Moscow to defend against the German threat, however, Zhukov with his tank army was ordered to move forward and capture Ukraine, in the hope of posing some threats to the Germans in the south. The defense of Moscow is looking good for now, especially with the Capital Defense rule, although more and more angry Germans are arriving… and the German Luftwaffe is looking pretty healthy too.
Mediterranean:
Germany reinforced Africa with a paratrooper and a grenadier that moved by air transport.
However, after the UK turn, seeing 6 Allied fighters, 5 tanks, and some other units defending Egypt and no good odds of attacking, Italy decided to move some troops away from the siege of Cairo. They retreated from Alexandria and moved their army from Syria to Iraq, capturing the important oil fields. The UK is low on land units in the Middle East and has to scramble troops to defend. Three more Italian paratroopers moved to Syria to pose more threats.Although Cairo is safe for now, it can still come under pressure very quickly from Axis LCVs and Paratroopers…
Atlantic:
The Allies cleared the Atlantic of some U-boats, with the help of the American SHB, as well as lots of aircraft and destroyer units.
The Americans bought 4 Total War Bombers, two more destroyers, as well as a Fighter Ace to help with the attacks on the Western side of the board.
Likewise, the UK bought 4 Total War Fighters in London.Pacific
The Japanese are losing ground everywhere. As they have no navy anymore, the Allies have an easy time capturing Japanese islands and coastal territories with amphibious landings, depriving them of valuable income. Also, the numerous submarines stationed in coastal sea zones don’t help either. 15 IPCs were lost to convoy disruption this round. On top of that, the Russians gathered their air force in Moscow and their eastern army to finally put an end to the Japanese advance through Siberia, and attacked Yenisey in force. Due to some good rolling once again, the Japanese army was obliterated. The Russians now have free rein to recapture their lost eastern territories.
All in all, this game is likely going to be a race for Moscow…

Ah awesome, thanks! So essentially the decision to retreat for Type XXI U-boats is made after the attacker’s roll. Those units are pretty good then. I am going to buy more of them in the future 😁
