Is 1.0.3.4 working for you guys? I keep trying to get online but no luck.
Also, we could do a direct ip game, or a game by email.
When are you, or anyone else interested, online?
(I’m in the USA, colorado, so anytime usually after 7:30pm MST (9:30EST))

There is no benefit to taking these islands, either for japan or for the usa. even National Objectives do not solve this because Japan is going to want to take the Philippines, East Indies, Borneo, and Kwangtung anyway just for the money. The NOs should have skipped these and only dealt with the non-moneyed islands.

RE: Frood, how do I miss you? Where's your calculator?!!!posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
TripleA has a calculator. Just start up a Local game with one of the two AA50 maps, then use the BattleCalculator.

Conquered AA gun belongs to who?posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
The Americans attack and conquer the Balkans (italy), then drop off an AA gun there.
The Germans attack the Balkans and win, the Balkans go back to Italian control.
But who owns the AA gun, Italy or Germany?thx,

RE: House Rulesposted in House Rules
if even larry thinks that heavy bombers are op, why aren’t his optional rules for it the regular rules?
or why not:
Heavy Bombers = roll two dice at 3 (instead of at 4) -
RE: Map for 1941 axis strategyposted in 1941 Scenario
I love you maps IL, but you really need to give them better and more descriptive names,
for example:
AA50 1941 Round 1 Strategy Map Updated June 9 2009 (would make more sense then calling it HE Phase 1 Final Map with icons copy copy copy copy copy) -
What is your UK naval build round 1posted in 1942 Scenario
this post was inspired by the similar post in 1941, so quite simply, what on earth do you build as UK on turn 1?
I have been building 1 Carrier, 1 Transport, and 1 Fighter to make up for the one you lose taking out the Baltic fleet. This seems a bit weak though and I wish UK had just 1 more IPC because then i could build a Destroyer instead of the transport.

@Imperious:
China plays before japan in both 1941 and 42. Thats all you need. The only other thing is round up for infantry, so 3 spaces gets you 2 infantry, 5 gets you 3
China going first might be too powerful. Not only do they get to move their guys to reinforce certain areas, but they also get 3 extra inf. China going first is the same as a Chinese bid of 3 inf plus getting to move their guys around any way you like. As much as I think AA50 with NOs is imbalanced in favor of the axis, this might be a bit much.

RE: British round 1 naval buildposted in 1941 Scenario
People seem to still be thinking in terms of Revised Bombardment rules.
In AA50, bombardment is really nerfed.no matter what i do with UK, I always buy at least 1 Carrier turn 1 (same with USA)
generally, the UK for me either buys 1 Carrier, 1 Cruiser, 1 Transport, 1 Fighter, or 1 Carrier, 1 Cruiser, 1 Transport, 1 Destroyer (saves 2 ipcs), or 1 Carrier, 2 Destroyers, 1 Transport, (save 6 or buy a Submarine).

RE: How many men in your deadzone ?posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
The Ideal is 1 inf, but if you are not playing LL then you often end up with 2 inf in the dead zone because you want to be safe when you take it. (so i posted 2)

@Imperious:
Well to be clear I don’t feel this is the case, BUT i do prefer something more in terms of evolving the rules toward less abstraction. The Techs are kinda bogus as some of the choices of what was considered “technology” leave something to be desired ( e.g. advanced artillery is not really a TECHNOLOGY that was of importance in WW2). I am not saying it should be more historical, but less gamely about it or arbitrary.
I think the playtesting was great, and done by the best but the final decisions were not in playtesters hands. I am quite sure with people like Kreighund, the games setup exposed any flaws and the obvious situations like in China must have been decided by the higher ups, which a minimal number of rules can fix.
for China let the Soviets play them which is BEFORE Japan and by coincidence also semi historical because the Chinese communists were supplied by Stalin. That should have been an optional rule. I bugged Larry to include all of his ‘cutting room floor’ ideas and make them as optional rules because it would have been of great benefit to others, but all we got was just 2 new ideas.
If you are playing 1942, it is still after the Japan…. so what would you do in 1942? have china go before japan in 1942 also?

RE: A game of aa50 on Triple Aposted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
i’d love to, but right now we have to wait for 1.0.3.4 (the next update) because the internet lobby is down
edit: 1.0.3.4 is out and most bugs are fixed. it can be found here http://triplea.sourceforge.net/mywiki so everyone else on this forum should give a try

AA50 on TripleA, and bidding amount NOs are worth, etc.posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
There have been a variety of Ways to Balance AA50 with NOs that people have come up with.
From the more mundane things like the normal unit bid system, or cash bids, or chinese infantry bids, to some more elaborate things like:
Bidding to Lower how much NOs are worth.
Making some NOs have stricter or easier requirements. (like Britain needing fewer, Japan needing more)
Playing with the Dardanelles Closed Option.
Playing with Interceptors and Escorts Optional rule for SBRs.
Being able to move the Chinese Fighter around before the game starts.
Letting China acquire Infantry based on the number of territory they own at the end of their turn instead of beginning.
Playing with modified versions of Low Luck. (like low luck enabled with 11 or more units, low luck disabled with 10 or less units total in btl)While I have my own set of ideas, I think that having more options is better, so I have created a feature request post for TripleA. So to anyone who uses TripleA to play AA50, and would like to see some more features added to it, please visit this post I made on their development forum begging for a few new features. If enough players comment and ask for something, hopefully we will get at least one of them.
http://triplea.sourceforge.net/mywiki/ForumThis post isn’t to debate which Methods for balancing are the best, just to come up with ideas and ask that they be included into TripleA. Don’t trash someone else’s idea, you are under no obligation to use it if it gets included. More options = Better.

RE: Games W/O National Objectivesposted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
for LHTR for Heavy Bombers, why roll two dice and pick the better of the two? Why not just increase the attack power of bombers to 6? Or why not make it an attack power of 3 but with two dice? W/E, TECH f up the game too much regardless of which one you get.
-
RE: AA50 OOB Diceposted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
as long as the dice are perfectly symmetrical in shape and weight, they are fair
-
RE: AA50 OOB Diceposted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
ya, you need to put the box lid and the box bottom together and put it on a chair or on the table if your table is big enough, then you can throw your dice in there. much easier

RE: AA50 Italian forces addedposted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
I like AA being a 6 player game instead of a 5 player game. And if you bring 5 people to play, then someone just gets italy and germany (or italy and japan).

A Question about the Dardanelles ruleposted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
According to the official Faqs, there is an optional rule for the closing of the Dardanelles (National Objectives, and Technology, are also optional rules in AA50).
So, if you play with this rule, can Germany still use their transport to pick up guys from Bulgaria/Romania?
It is on the other side of the Dardanelles so I think they should be able to…… Perhaps that side of the Dardanelles becomes a mini sea zone 16 for ships, while the other side of the straight is the part that turkey will not let ships into or out of.
