    • Declaring War Questions

So I am little bit confused about declaring war and stuff.

Can a country ONLY declare war during right before their combat move?

I thought for example that I could disrupt a Convoy zone, and then if I did I would be at war?
The errata seems to say that I can not disrupt a convoy zone unless i am at war… but it does not state that i can not declare war then disrupt a convoy zone.

so for example, it is the end of the japanese 2nd turn, they are about to collect income, and they have not attacked any uk/anzac things, they are not at war with anyone but china.  could, during the collect income phase, the uk/anzac declare war and disrupt a convoy?

    • RE: Errata Question

the 1942 rule book still isn’t available online… and that has no errata and has been out for many many months…

so do not expect to get a pacific 1940 rulebook for at least a year probably more.

this entire time i thought it was turn 3 that the USA went to war (including the ability to attack, etc.)….

thanks to this new errata, i actually read what i missed earlier in the rule book.

    • RE: TripleA info

the forums are slightly different, so things did not copy and paste as well as hoped
for example, the sourceforge forums like nabble use and to designate bold, while this forum uses [ b ] and [ / b] to designate bold

anyway, the full post, which has been way way way updated since Subotai copied it, is over here:

      http://n2.nabble.com/Download-Maps-Links-Hosting-Games-General-Information-tp4074312p4074312.html

if i figure out how to use this forum’s links code, and how to post html code here, then i will repost the full and updated version here.

    • RE: Alternate Gameplay

i built a Six player free for all version of the game (can also be 3 player, or 2 player, if each player picks an extra country)

capitols are worth 12, all other territories worth 3, and each player starts with a 250 ipc bid
there were also a couple other rules changes, like canals did not need control of the territories, and panama did not connect to venezuela (because usa got too powerful otherwise)

anyway, check them out on TripleA: https://sourceforge.net/projects/triplea/files/

if you download the map called: WW2v4, you will automatically have the 6 player free for all games included with it.

      thank you in advance

    • RE: Split income POLL

      @dakgoalie38:

      @oztea:

I garuntee you will feel the burn in europe if you plop down 6 battleships in the pacific as the US

Not if the Europe game is designed for a late US entry into the war.  If Japan gets the US into the war early, it gives the US an extra turn or two to go Japan only.

Although this opens up an interesting question.  Will the US be forced to wait until the third turn to attack in the Europe only game, assuming the Germans and Italians don’t attack before then?  And will this change Japanese strategy in the world game, where it might delay an attack on the allies every time to keep the US out of Europe, making J1 attacks unthinkable and J2 attacks an incredibly risky move?

Well I guess we’ll have to wait until Europe is out and how it’s set up to determine whether or not the split income was/would have been a good or bad idea.  It really depends on how Europe is set up and how the world game works.  In the end, it depends on how it affects gameplay and game balance.

OR it just means that germany and italy and japan all attack America and her allies on round two…  (or round 3, or round 1, etc.)
which i guess would make sense… right?

i sure would enjoy plopping down 6 BBs in the pacific though… holy crap!
      or 15 destroyers… or 4 carriers and 6 fighters…  or 10 bombers…

    • RE: TripleA back up and running

yes, but it runs on AA50 type rules until we can finish coding the rules for Pac40
(so naval & air bases do not work, escorts and interceptors do not work, declarations of war do not work, those are the big ones.)

it will probably take some months to get it working as pac40

    • RE: Do you want canada as a power

i think brazil should be its own power….
seriously… they did contribute to the war…

oh… and why not make south africa a power too… i mean realistically any income gained in south africa was not spent in the british isles…

i am canadian, and i am totally against them being a power in the board game… we have enough powers to keep track of as it is…
do you really want to wait 2 hours before america’s turn?  i mean seriously… sometimes people play the board game with actual friends, and the guy playing america already has to wait 1 hour before he gets to do anything at all

    • Rulebook Online?

I know the wizards website does not have the rulebook posted online….

      so I ask the community:

could someone please scan their rulebook and post it here, or a link to it here, or just pm me the PDF file with the rulebook?

I consider the 1942 rulebook to be one of the easiest to read, so I would love to be able to have a link when people ask me how to play A&A.

      thx,

    • RE: Air Bases-Do they create super stacks?

i would say, somewhere between 3 and 6 max planes should be able to scramble.  and reduced by 1-2 planes for each point of damage (at 3 damage or more, no planes scramble obviously)

the idea of infinite planes scrambling is absurd.

in fact… i have a much cooler idea that would be somewhat more realist:

up to 3 planes may scramble (join the fight) each combat round.  This is reduced by 1 plane for each damage on the airbase.  (at 3 dmg, no planes).

so for example, you have an airbase with 1 point of damage on it, and you happen to also have 7 planes on it.
you decide to scramble into an adjacent sz

during the first round of combat, only 2 of your planes may participate
during the second round, only 4
during the third round, only 6,
      etc.

(if you had no dmg, then it would be 3,6,9, etc. if 2pts of dmg then 1,2,3,etc.)…

      what do you guys think?
perhaps we should petition larry harris and krieg to make this part of the errata/facts… at least as an optional rule?

    • Question about winning

      about winning:

1 Japan has to hold their VC until the end of the round or just the end of their turn?

2 the allies have to capture and hold Japan island for 1 turn.  since all of the allies go AFTER japan, I am guessing it means they have to hold it until the END of the next japanese turn?  Or they have to hold it until the beginning of the turn of the country that took japan?
can I take japan as america, Japan retakes their island during their turn, then I retake it during my turn, does that count as a win?  what if I take it as ANZAC, japan retakes, then America retakes?

    • RE: Axis too strong??

When playing WITH NOs, it has become typical and accepted that the allies get a 6-9 ipc bid
i do not know anyone on tripleA who plays without a 6 ipc bid for the allies (when National Objectives are active)

    • RE: American split income?

i am pro-split income for the USA

to me, it is the only way to stop the strategy of focusing 100% of resources on either germany or japan.

and since historically the fight against germany had more resources, then perhaps eastern usa’s income will have to be bigger by 20 or 30…… (or more likely it will just start big, and not get a jump from going to war like western usa’s income)

however, if the income is not split… i hope to hell that there will be some sort of gameplay mechanic to severely punish a USA player that does not split his income.

    • Mech inf movement question again

      krieg,

2 questions about mech infantry, again…

if a non-blitzing unit (mech infantry) moves only 1 movement to attack a territory with no enemy in it, can this unit move its other remaining movement during the non-combat move?

what if you have a tank blitz that enemy territory with no enemy in it, THEN move your non-blitzing unit into that territory.  Its combat movement ends right, but can it use its remaining movement during the non-combat move?

I am thinking it is no and no.

      thanks in advance,

    • RE: Ship IPC values

the reason ships cost more than land is because of aircraft…
aircraft cost more than land, and justifiably so
since aircraft can attack both, air links them
so… if you make a DD cost 4… then that means you can have slightly more than 2 DD for every fighter you buy… which would suck for fighters

i think the pricing right now is very very reasonable,
though I do think cruisers should be 11, carriers 14 or 15, and BB 18 or 19

    • RE: Pacific 1940 for TripleA

thx for the reply, appreciate it

i’ll look into the colors a bit more, opinions on anzac seems to be either love-hate right now
so far the dutch people like the color i chose for them, and i will lower the saturation of france

i am keeping china purple, though what color of purple is up for debate

the game treats factories, air and naval bases all as units, and so things do change based on how many units are in any territory and when they move out or add more.

however, i can make them the FIRST unit, and maybe edit the placements to show the first square being on the coast or something…… I’ve never edited the actual placement file, I always let the auto-placement-finder do it, so we’ll see if this is feasible or not.

    • Pacific 1940 for TripleA

Ok, I need some input from the vast number of people on this great forum,

      first off,
do you like the colors of the different countries?
particularly, do you like the territory colors of ANZAC, the Dutch, and the French
I plan on making units for them to match their territory colors (currently they use british units, which will change soon), so i need to know if their territory colors are good
other questions would be things like do you like the art so far? do you like the flags?
the relief tiles are being worked on, so do not judge them too much yet…
