      what a sec…. wtf is up with the new Heavy Bombers rule?

      can’t you guys just use the Heavy Bombers from Larry Harris Tournament Rules?

      i mean… with SBR,
      rolling one die nets you an average of 3.5 damage
      rolling two dice nets you an average of 7 damage
      and rolling two dice and selecting the best nets you an average of 4.5

      you guys just nerfed strat bombing by 2.5 damage
      thats a lot

      why can’t we use LHTR rules? why didn’t you pick LHTR heavy bombers for the new FAQ?
      LHTR heavy bombers do 5.5 damage on average for strat bombing

      krieg… I’m counting on you to tell larry to switch the FAQ to LHTR HB.

      Since subs hit on attack on a 2, wouldn’t it be a 33% chance of getting a hit on the surprise attack?  Then if you miss it’d be a 50% chance you die without hitting anything…  Then rinse and repeat…  Doesn’t look like a bad game design to me, especially when you have the choice of going after a 100% kill with the one UK transport, or supporting a more even odds attack on a battleship in sz2.

      do the math all the way out
      it ends up being 50% win and survive and kill all, 50% lose and do nothing

      the reason is because it is only 50% of the remaining 66.7%.  then you get 33% of the remaining 33%.  then 50% of the remaining 22%.  take this out to infinity, or even just 10 rounds, or even just 2 rounds, and it is 50/50.

      so, for example, if you are doing only 2 rounds:
      sub wins =
      33% + 11% = 44%
      destroyer wins =
      33% + 11% = 44%
      no one wins, go to next round =
      remaining 12%

      in fact, if you count the fact that the sub goes first, it is a little higher:
      2.5 rounds:
      sub wins =
      33% + 11% + 4% = 48%
      destroyer win =
      33% + 11% = 44%
      sub does not win, roll for last half of 3rd round:
      8%

      battles that are all or nothing, like this one (if you win, you kill 3 units and survive with no damage taken, if you lose you do not damage anything and lose everything), are VERY BAD GAME DESIGN
      you might as well just play roulette

      sbr-ing is too weighted in favor of defending interceptors right now…
      i mean, you need 2 escorts to equal each interceptor, plus you will need an average of 5 bombers in order to do 17.5 damage on average to a major factory.  so… if they have just 3 fighters defending you will need a rather large air-force.  (say like 6 escorts and 5 bombers)…
      and in order to have that kind of air power you should probably be already winning the game… so it just becomes a win-more option

      with the USA going 100% pacific (minus the stratbombing and original 2 trannies + destroyer), that means it is up to the UK and Russia to defeat Germany and Italy.
      without a bid, UK will lose Egypt either round 1 or 2.  without a bid, Russia will definitely lose karelia round 2.
      without USA naval assets, germany can sink the UK navy round 1 (as usual) but ALSO can sink them round 2.  you say you are buying 4 transports?  that will not work, at least not on the first 2 turns, because germany will crush your navy.
      if you are buying navy with the UK, you will not be sinking the italian navy any time soon, so italy will be getting her NO’s for a while.

      I just do not see russia surviving past turn 5.  And Japan can still get her 3 NO’s and stalemate with USA if needed.  At the very worst, Japan does not get her island NO, then stalemates with USA.

      I will give you strategy a try, but i’ve seen pretty much the exact same thing tried a hell of a lot of times and never seen it win or come even close to winning.  Germany and Italy with NOs are just too big for Russia.

      (ps to Zhukov4: I updated the China mod, so you have to download it again.  Did you get it working?  I never heard back from you.  Please go download WW2v3 and the china mod again.  version number is 1.2.2 for both.  http://n2.nabble.com/Version-of-WWv3-with-China-going-first-tp4464141p4464141.html )

      first off, what version are you playing? 1.2.1 has errors with the “moore ai”.  Please try playing against the Easy AI or humans instead.
      second, I would say go delete ALL the map files, then redownload them from http://sites.google.com/site/tripleaerniebommel/home/mods/TripleA_Quality_Mods_EB.xml

      to delete all your map files, go to C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\triplea\maps\

      if you are still having problems, post a copy of the java errors.

      i do not feel that allied winning is inevitable. 
      Once Japan reaches the borders of russia, Germany can spam infantry to its heart’s content, while still pushing its stack of 15 tanks around eastern europe.

      i do not care what they look like, so long as they throw well.  I also appreciate if they have a perfect center of gravity (ie: the six side should not weigh less than the 1 side, just because it has 5 extra holes drilled out of it)

      How about this Krieg:

      If a Transport or Transports moves into or through a Sea Zone containing an Enemy Submarine or Submarines, and at no point during the Combat Move phase does a Friendly Surface Warship begin in, move into, or move through that same Sea Zone, THEN during the combat phase each Enemy Submarine in Those Sea Zones will get to roll a single die once, striking on a 2 or less. 
      If there is a hit, then the power that moved Transports through That Sea Zone must take one of those Transports as a casualty for each hit.  This is done before all other combat, if those Transports contain cargo, including troops being used in an amphibious assault, that cargo is destroyed immediately.

      i see literally hundreds of 1941 with National Objective games completed every day on our server, many of them with experienced players, and i can attest that if you aren’t bidding at least 6 either you been playing against noobs in your past games, or you have been lucky in your past games. 
      I am talking serious games here.  No, “oh just for fun i’ll try going pacific with usa” games.  No “i think i’ll build a german fleet” games.  Serious stuff only.

    • 1941 with NOs, what is your bid? (experienced players only)

      Please only bid if you have a large amount of experience, playing against other very good players.  At least 10 games minimum under you belt, preferably more.

      I bid 8 these days… since it is the largest i can get without going over that critical of 2 units and into 3 units.  (i generally do 1 inf and 1 tank, and put them in karelia and egypt, though i can’t make up my mind for which in karelia and which in egypt)
      That one-two punch with italy making a hole for german tanks to blitz into caucasus / moscow just hurts way too much these days.

    • Bombing an air base question

      my first question is: when exactly does scrambling happen?  As far as I understand it, the choice to scramble and where to scramble occurs after all combat moves have taken place.  Basically scrambling happens in between combat move and combat rolling.

      second question:
      so according to the rule book, strategic bombing happens before all other combat
      lets say i combat move to strat bomb an air base on in island, and also combat move some ships to the the sz around the island for an amphibious assault.  the defender decides to scramble his fighters to the sz.
      i bomb the air base dealing 6 damage
      does this mean the scrambling no longer works? and his fighters can not scramble to that sz anymore?
      i would assume no, the fighters have already scrambled… but i want to make sure

      third question:
      scrambling says you can scramble to defend in a sz where there is a an attack taking place.
      this means you can scramble to a SZ where you would help defend some friendly allied naval units from the enemy
      this means you could scramble to a sz to defend against some transports that would be conducting an amphibious assault (even tho there are no friendly units in the sz)
      this means you can NOT scramble to a sz where the enemy is just moving into the sz, no naval battles or amphibious battles…

      it feels rushed…. and it lacks polish… and it is missing things… and there are typos and a not very good rulebook… and the wrong battleboard…

      but i have to say i do not think the game is unbalanced… or at least we can not tell yet…

      i do think they need more playtesters in general for all their games,
      but they did a good job with this one

      now they just need better editors and publishers…

      so does this mean my example would be perfectly ok and legal to do?

      (that basically, you can declare war at the beginning of turn step)

      (and since the only time you can do things that may effect your potential enemies are combat movement and disrupting convoys during collect income phase, the only times that you can declare war and it matters are before the combat move step of your own turn, and before the collect income step of your soon to be enemy)
