I’m actually in the middle of a game right now. I didn’t start with any (used oob setup), but used the price chart from AA50. Seems to be working so far, but does give the US a bit more of an advantage. Maybe reduce US income by 5 to compensate. Honestly though, both sides still end up buying a lot of destroyers. The US to cover a lot of ocean. The Japanese to use as transports.

RE: Thoughts about AAE40
Either way, I can say this. AAE has become one of my favorites due to its unique rules. AAP is close, but a bit complex for newbies. This new pair of games definitely has the potential to revolutionize A&A as we know it. It will give the seasoned player something to really enjoy and the beginner something to look forward to. Bravo to Larry and the crew :-D

RE: Thoughts about AAE40
Larry will never make a rule that says “Russia cant attack Germany before Turn 5” like in the Xeno games. ( This is not a complaint, its a praise actually). Larry’s way of solving this is to let Russia start with a lot of infantry only ( good defence but poor attack performance) and also a lot of the forces set up in far east.
What our your sources on this? I understand the concept, but it still runs into the problem of if the Battle of France isnt over in one turn, Germany loses, which causes the battle of France to be scripted. I aslo think that if Russia was able to control his forces from the start of the game they would just pull there infantry off the front lines so they were not wiped in Barbarossa, of course if the Germans do not kill large numbers of Russians on their first turn of attacking Russia, they would have no chance of winning.
Would it be possible to rebalance this by starting with a stronger German setup? That way the Germans could effectively choose to attack France or Russia. By giving Germany X pieces to setup in any German territory, they could begin the game with four choices: attack France, attack Russia, attack both, or build up stronger defenses. Either way, it keeps Germany from weakening itself to the point of automatically losing. The extra equipment would have to be held to land units though, so you don’t end up with some huge German armada in the English Channel.

RE: Thoughts about AAE40
I for one am also glad that both these games are being updated to reflect alot of the things we all want to see from these games. Plus, we always need the motivation to come up with new strategies.
Plus, as is usually true with new A&A games, new units will debut that eventually make there way into the big game. And God knows, we can’t get enough new units!

RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion thread
OK, I have my hedge fund started for all the pieces I want then
All my joking aside though, if you guys can pull this off for $60, Larry Harris should get his robot trained monkeys to use you guys as the OFFICIAL game piece supplier forever. 8-)
What, I’m just sayin’…

RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion thread
I have been putting off buying anything to save up for this. I am still prepared to buy what I can from FMG. Will the FMG sets cover everything I could get from Table Tactics? Just trying to figure out if I need to buy both or just FMG…

RE: Help needed - defective pieces!
They were in pretty useless shape. The stern of the the Japanese subs was pointed straight down, the bow of the Italian battleships were pointed straight up. The legs of some of my Italian infantry were so thin, they looked like rejects from a Tim Burton movie… :-o A couple of destroyers looked like they had been t-boned by an aircraft carrier, they were so crooked.
Sorry though, after receiving the pieces and checking I had replacements for everything, I sent them all to the round file. I shouldn’t have been so selfish

RE: Help needed - defective pieces!
WOTC game through like Krieg said they would! About a week and a half later, I now have perfect replacements in my hand. Thanks guys!

RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion thread
I can’t believe how close we all are to this being in our hands :-o Even though I could lose my job any day :|, am being forced to sell my upside down house , and have an 8 month old eating a hole in my wallet …
I WILL spend money on this as soon as FMG will let me!!! :-D
that is a hardcore A&A player
+1
Thanks for my first karma point! Its even a positive one.

Sweet. Thanks for the quick update.

RE: Lets Talk Naval Mines
I don’t know about you but, I have a hard enough time keeping my German subs upright. Skinny little things…

RE: What We Want the Next AA boardgame to be.
I’d be down with a WWI game as well. I’ve considered using the AAE map to make my own but haven’t spent the money for the Table Tactics pieces yet. Plus I would have to invest in some metal minis which just isn’t in the game budget right now. This would be a great opportunity for WOTC to make something new from something old ( a thing they seem to be good at ).
My second choice would be Stalingrad done like BOTB with a few new things thrown in.

RE: Help needed - defective pieces!
Thanks Krieg! I wasn’t sure they would be able to help since its still technically OOP.
I finished going through all the pieces… do I have THE MOST DEFECTIVE SET EVER???
I had a total of 26 improperly moulded pieces ( curved or not enough plastic ) and one missing carrier. All axis pieces. CHECK YOUR GAMES PEOPLE!
I will let you know what they do for me.

Help needed - defective pieces!
Hi guys,
I just recently bought AA50 and was unpacking it yesterday. I discovered that most of my Italian navy pieces are defective! It looks like they either got too hot when they were being made or were not completely cool when they left the mould. The bow of the battleships is bent upward and the destroyers are curved. They are completely unusable. Who do I go to now for replacement parts? Has anyone else had this problem? I will finish inspecting the rest of my pieces today.
Kriegshund or IL, HELP??!!

RE: Large Set of House Rules (+ Italian National Advantages)
I’ve always liked the old ones…
As for the new ones, here are my favorites-
Chinese Communists. I think this helps validate China as a new power. Plus, most of us already have special pieces to represent this! The dark maroon Russians from AAE can be used for this to differentiate them from Russians in Russia. That way, the Non-Aggression Pact Rule will be easier to maintain.
U-Boat Interdiction. No longer can you blow-off these pesky sea hunters. They are worth their weight in gold until the allies sink them.
Night Bombing. Anything that helps the SBR be cost effective without making it a game breaker, I’m in for.
RAF Command. Keeps the importance and realism of the English Channel air battles as a part of the game. Cool!
Foreign Aid. An important part of the war, and a new tough decision for the US player. A simple way to add another level of strategy for the Allies.
Axis Cooperation. Helps Italy at the start of the game and helps to balance the “Foreign Aid” rule above.
Fantastic Oztea! I plan to use many of these. Thank you.

RE: Simple Air Combat Rule?
…Or I could have looked harder and found this from B.Andersson:
"Keep it simple to speed up the game, no separate “dog fights” before combat! Maybe for the more advanced players, but then my suggestion is:
A dog fight always takes place in the opening fire step of combat, for the first cycle of combat only. Any hit scored in such a dog fight must be taken by a bomber or fighter, hence air units must be picked as casualties for a dog fight as long as enemy air units still excists. For the second or later cycle of combat fighters fire in opening fire step of combat as long as no enemy fighters are present. Otherwise still attack during the regular combat phase."
My bad…

Simple Air Combat Rule?
First off, since I’m new here, I apologize if this has been done already…
I was reading other suggestions on adding air superiority to the game, but most seemed either too complex, or too decisive (fight to the death). Here’s my proposal:
ANY TIME aircraft are involved in a battle (land, sea, or SBR), just use the SBR Escort rule for one round. It forces fighters to fight fighters, but only for one round. It gives defending fighters the chance to shoot down unguarded bombers in an attack. It also encourages the use of a diversified force by both attackers and defenders. Just think of the great carrier battles it would create against JPN and USA! I just never liked the fight to the death rule that I’ve seen.
This step would happen between AA fire and regular combat. I guess that would be the opening fire step? The only thing I can’t decide is to use the SBR att/def values of 1/2 or the standard values of 3/4. Bombers would still defend themselves in air combat at 1.
Thoughts?

RE: AA50: Combined arms dig in
I have been trying to find a way to promote combined arms, especially after playing Russia in AAEurope. This is a great idea! Now we have a reason to buy all land units…
Thanks abc!
